PMCH Admission Dates 2026

Admissions to PMCH for the 2026-27 academic session are anchored by NEET UG for MBBS and NEET PG for MD, MS, and PG Diploma programmes. The 85% Bihar State Quota seats are filled through the BCECEB UGMAC portal. The remaining 15% AIQ seats are allotted via MCC online counselling. As of October 2026, UGMAC Round 3 counselling is in progress.

For postgraduate (MD and MS) admissions, NEET PG 2026 was held on August 30, 2026, with results released in September 2026. The table below gives the course-wise exam accepted for PMCH programmes.

PMCH Courses and Fees

PMCH offers over 40 medical programmes across undergraduate, postgraduate, super-speciality, and PG Diploma levels. The fee structure follows Bihar state government rates and is among the lowest for any medical college in the state.

The MD programme at PMCH covers a wide spectrum of disciplines: Anaesthesiology, Anatomy, Biochemistry, Dermatology and Venereology, Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, General Medicine, Microbiology, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Paediatrics, Pathology, Pharmacology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Physiology, Preventive and Social Medicine, Psychiatry, Radiodiagnosis, Radiotherapy, Skin and VD, and Tuberculosis and Respiratory Medicine. PMCH Admission Process

MBBS Admission

MBBS admission to PMCH is entirely NEET UG-driven. The 200 MBBS seats are split between 170 Bihar State Quota seats and 30 AIQ seats.

• Eligibility: 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, minimum 50% aggregate (45% for SC/ST/OBC)
• Minimum age: 17 years on or before December 31 of the admission year
• Valid NEET UG qualifying score is mandatory
• Bihar domicile required for state quota seats

State quota seats are filled through BCECEB UGMAC counselling in multiple rounds, with registration and choice filling conducted online via the BCECEB portal. AIQ seats are filled via MCC online counselling. The NEET UG closing rank for the General Category AIQ seat at PMCH was 3,701 in 2025. For Bihar state quota, the General Category closing rank was 5,323 in the 2025 admission cycle.

MD and MS Admission

Postgraduate admissions to MD and MS programmes are based on NEET PG score. Fifty percent of PG seats are filled through MCC AIQ PG counselling. The remaining 50% go through BCECEB PG counselling rounds for Bihar state quota.

PG Diploma, M.Ch, and DM Admission

PG Diploma programmes (DA, DCH, DGO, DMRD, and others) also use NEET PG rank for selection and are primarily filled through Bihar state quota rounds. M.Ch super-speciality admissions use NEET SS. Candidates must hold the relevant base degree and must have completed the required postgraduate training as per NMC norms before applying for super-speciality seats.

PMCH Placements and Career Outcomes

PMCH does not conduct campus placements. As a government medical institution, career outcomes follow the clinical training and exam pathway model standard across state medical colleges in India. The large patient load at PMCH Hospital, however, gives graduates a level of clinical exposure that stands out in the Bihar medical ecosystem.

Most MBBS graduates from PMCH appear for NEET PG to pursue MD or MS specialisation, either at PMCH itself or other government medical colleges. Bihar state-quota graduates are subject to a mandatory government service bond after completing the degree and internship. After fulfilling the bond, graduates typically move into government hospital postings, private practice, or further super-speciality training via NEET SS.

PMCH Campus and Infrastructure

PMCH is located on Ashok Rajpath in Patna, one of the busiest civic stretches in the state capital. The college and hospital complex have been operational since 1925 and represent the oldest and most established medical training facility in Bihar.

The attached PMCH Hospital has over 1,675 beds. It operates as the primary tertiary referral and trauma centre for Patna and the broader Bihar and Jharkhand catchment area. Round-the-clock emergency, surgical, obstetric, and intensive care services run continuously, providing MBBS students and PG residents with extensive bedside exposure across all major clinical disciplines. The hospital handles a very high patient volume, which is a key training advantage for residents preparing for NEET PG.

Hostel facilities are available on campus for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. The college maintains anatomy, pathology, microbiology, pharmacology, and biochemistry laboratories. The Bihar government has approved periodic infrastructure upgrades for PMCH, including a new campus development initiative to expand bed strength and upgrade clinical facilities further.

PMCH vs IGIMS Patna vs Nalanda Medical College

Aspirants targeting government MBBS seats in Bihar frequently compare PMCH with Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) Patna and Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH) Patna. All three are government medical colleges affiliated with Bihar University of Health Sciences and admit students through NEET UG and BCECEB UGMAC counselling.

PMCH leads on historical legacy, MBBS seat count, hospital bed strength, and PG discipline breadth. IGIMS offers a more research-oriented environment and was established as a specialised referral institute. NMCH, being the most recently established of the three, has a relatively higher NEET closing rank (lower cutoff competition). All three charge the same state government fee rate, making the primary differentiator NEET rank and preference order during UGMAC counselling.
