What Students Say
Likes
- Assignments and projects related to industry are provided to B Com (Hons) students.
Dislikes
- Very strict dres code as we can freely move inside the campus but we can't wear what we like.
- Girls are not allowed in the morning batch as that batch is reserved only for boys.
Course Curriculum Overview
I wanted to learn business, economics, accounting and everything related to commerce and therefore I have opted this course. Also, many complain that evening classes are better but the day B.Com (Hons) batch for girls starts, I think our course will be a complete package as then most of us are also doing CPA, CFA, or the CA can take better time for that too.
Internships Opportunities
Roles are depending on the companies we get intenrships at. As at some companies like the Insurance or the mutual fund groups, we are mostly put in sales. Then in stock broking firms, we are in for research roles and that is where in the SMC Global Securities I got the Internships. Stipend was very less but that certificate is more valuable than any stipend i would have recieved.
Placement Experience
Highest package of our program has been 20 lakhs. Companies like EY, DeShaw, ITC, CESC and many others which are multi billion dollar groups were the ones which are invited for placements. Batch size including morning and evening is of 400 students and nearly 200 gets placements in dream companies. Roles of business analyst and accounting are provided and SAP is taught in our college so those who know that gets job easily.
Fees and Financial Aid
B.Com (Hons) girls only have the evening option and fees is also higher than the morning one. The morning students have to pay 100k while evening students have to pay 120k yearly for studying B.Com (Hons). Central schemes for scholarship as reserved category students are supported both by central and government college schemes. They get around 50% scholarship as what we pay per semester SC/ST pay that for a year.
Campus Life
For sports there's one ground and it is used widely for playing football as it's the major sport of SXC. For indoor a small room with few sports facilities and majorly isba social place as that is where team bonding and all happens. Library is big and is air-conditioned as it was transformed recently on students request. Unlike many colleges where it's hip-hop culture, here it's study culture and therefore just one annial fest in XAVOTSAV is all we have.
Admission
Admission i tried at almost all the colleges of Kolkata. Goenka was also in my mind as there the classes are in the morning and even St Xavier's Private University as well. However, my parents told me to study in a college affiliated to Calcutta University as that brings more value to the degree. My marks too were in the cut-off par list as for evening batch it was 87% and I had 90.
Faculty
Our college faculties supports us in every possible way. Calcutta University program as everyone knows is 2 times tougher than that of DU. So, our faculties are also more knowledgeable and better than those. Mr, Rachit Gupta who takes our cost accountancy subject is my favourite by a long long margin because he is the one who have made one of the most boring subject adorable.
Night Life
Our college don't have its own hostels and evening batch ends at 7 pm and that is it as the college gate also closed soon after that. However, after 7 pm if one has to be in an area of Kolkata it is Park Street and mostly hep people of the city runs in here. Best in class clubs like Tantra is here and most asthetic cafes are also here in Park Street. Eden Garden is also at a walking distance from our college.
