Course Curriculum Overview
I am pursuing B.COM and i am a first semester student at the college. i think my course is relevant and decided to go ahead with it is because it involves excercises of critical thinking, ethical awareness, discipline and business analytical skills.
Internships Opportunities
my college offers internships through its entrepreneurship development cell and the placement cell. There are alos various other events and initiatives taken up by different departments like initium which help in securing paid internships for the students depending on the program and organization.
Placement Experience
There is a placement cell club which functions in the college itself which is efficient in providing over 67 to 98% of students with placements. This percentage can vary for different years and different courses. The college has been successful in attracting top recruiters like deloitte, wipro, TCS, and leader companies from various other sectors. Packages vary significantly from 4 to 6 LPA up to 24LPA. After getting my degree i am planning to first make sure that i have completed my CA course that i am pursuing alongside. And then going ahead with either a job outside kolkata or open a business in kolkata itself.
Fees and Financial Aid
as a b.com evening student of st.xaviers college , kolkata ; following is the fee structure that i have to comply with ; Rs.58500 to pe paid at the time of admission for the 1st installment of the 1st semester. the 2nd installment for 1st semester costs Rs. 32700. This is the fee structure for the 1st semester. It is inclusive of the fee for the library with e-resources facility and cyber fee. This fee structure is as per the year 2025- 2026 and is subject to change for other years. To get the fee structure at the time of your enrollment , the same will be available on the college website as well. For the 2nd semester following is the fee structure: 1st installment - 34000 2nd installment - 31500 Fees is subject to revision to maximum of 10% each subsequent year. Scholarships are available like the father joris scholarship and some other schemes which are not all merit-based but some are for students with low- parental income. No concrete information as such has been provided for these scholarships as it is decided on the basis of the students situation. NOTE: This is fee structure is subject to differences in course, batch and the year.
Campus Life
There are several events that happen in the campus all year along in fact, almost every other day some or the other seminar is being organised by any society. it may be a an informative seminar or a fun event involving events. All kinds of books are available in the library including curriculum-related books , professional corse- related books as well as books of famous authors and self-improvement books. The college class roomsa are equipped with high- technology equipments like projectors and both kind of boards i.e., green board and white board.
Admission
I had applied to christ college, bangalore and mount carmel college, bangalore before applying to this college. I got a confirmed admission into the mount carmel college and i did not give my exams for the christ college as i had already decided on going to st.xaviers as the dates for such exam approached. I chose this college because i had to pursue a professional course along side which st.xaviers caters more to as the curriculum and timings fir examinations are decided accordingly for it . To get admission in my college the admission procedure is; - filling the online application form available on the college website if the form is open at the time - upload the required documents - and then pay the refundable application fee online - an printout of application form and the fee payment reciept is to be kept - the selection process involves a merit- based assessment for the B.COM degree and may involve an entrance test and interview in case of other courses.
Faculty
the faculty to student ratio oof the college is 1:9 with a student count of 8614 and 365 faculty members as of december 2024. As a b.com student ; following are the faculty members i came across and became really fond of for the teaching techniques: - sukanya sarkel - rohan prasad gupta - koushik chatterjee Per semester there are only two exams. One are the mid-sems for 40 marks and there is the end-sem which is of 80 marks. Both these exams are considerably easy considering the ward has paid due attention in the classes and has attended them consistently. The resources for studying are also provided by the teacher right away through the LMS app.
Night Life
The college is located at the centre of the city hence it is surrounded by many famous and old food and hang-out places with affordable prices suitable for college students. There is also a chaat corner and an ice-cream stall withing the college campus itself servoing delicious food which saves the students from the hastle of roaming aorund in the scorching heat looking for good food. Apart from that some famous eateries around the college around are delights, express cafe, nandu's and vardhaan market which is a place full of street food stalls. the locality is safe to roam around at night because it is very lively.
