What Students Say
Likes
- The location of the campus is very beautiful.
- This is a state government college, thus the fee is quite low.
- The students are highly talented and skilled. There is abundant flora and fauna, and peace for the soul.
Dislikes
- The management of the college is pretty awful. There was no proper T&P cell & students had to put up a fight with the administration for every basic thing.
- The location is quite remote so not a greatly accessible place.
- The college does not have a boundary wall and the medical facilities are quite far away in main Pauri. No local nurse or doctor available.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course is normal as standardized by the AICTE. The books are same as per the relevant subjects. The library is ill stocked so either borrow the books from seniors or get them from somewhere else. The curriculum doesn't prepare anyone for real world applications. The teaching methods could use a lot of upgradation.
Fees and Financial Aid
Tuition Fee - Rs. 12000 Hostel + Mess fee - Rs. 18000 Merit Scholarships to Top 5% of the Students per Department- Rs. 4000 Tuition Fee Waiver for EWS Quota (for limited number of seats per Department)
Campus Life
The annual Tech event is Spandan and the annual cultural event is Goonj. The students are highly talented and it shows in those events. The administration is incompetent and everything is done by the students only. The library is good but stocked with books that are irrelevant. The campus is wifi enabled, but there are frequent outages due to weather. Same goes for electricity and water. The sports facilities are okay. There's a football and Volleyball/Cricket ground. There are student run communities throughout departments and are quite well participated.
Hostel Facilities
There are no fans in the rooms. Forget AC, you won't need it ever. We used to have our comforters out even in the month of June. The meals and menu are student mandated. Each hostel has a Mess committee which decides what to cook each day under a given budget.
Admission
I applied to the JEE Combined Counseling and was awarded this college in the first round. I took admission in the Computer Science department and then changes to the Civil Engineering department in the second round. I had recieved a call from other colleges in the state as well, but I prefferred this college due to its affordability and the tag of a government college.
Faculty
Faculty to Student Ratio - 60 : 1 The faculty is mostly IITians who have resorted to teaching. These are highly intelligent individuals with less to none teaching skills most of the time. The inter department politics is heavily influential and the budget allocation is quite biased too. There are two internal examinations for 15/30 marks each and an external examination at the end of the semester for the remaining 70 marks. The worst teacher of the college is Mr. Goel who is the HOD of the Chemical Engineering Department. He takes special pleasure in failing the students in their first year Chemistry exam and having them take it over and over each semester. In our year, a lot of the allumni has to stage a protest outside of the college campus to ensure their passing in the subject. He doesn't concern himself with the logic that none of the branches need indepth chemistry knowledge to have a successful career.
Night Life
There is no nightlife. The girls have to report to their hostel by 6/6.30 depending on weather. Each excursion outside college needs the warden's signatures. The hostels are okay, although quite isolated for girls. The mess staff is very cordial. There are only three shops in the campus- Campus Shop, AV (A restuarant cafe style place), Mehra (a cheaper alternative to AV) and Kutiya (a cheaper and much better located alternative to Mehra). There is no club, pub, bar, movie hall, art studio nearby. There is no life outside the campus, and if you're late, there won't even be a tracker available to take you to the nearest city (Pauri). Public vehicle system is totaly crappy.
