Remarks
Overall I have a good remark about my college. It has a good impression in the industries. The only thing which can be touched upon is fees structure which could not be afforded by everyone.
Entrance Preview
I took AIEEE exam in 2010 and scored 6484 All India rank. Since I had given 12th exam from Rajasthan which is tough competitive state I scored 1201 state rank so I did not get a good stream in any of the NITs,therefore I moved to opt for some good private college in which I could get Computer Science as stream.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum was a good one. First year was a mixed one all stream students were having common subjects.
Internships Opportunities
My college offers internship in the college itself as well the people who got internship offer from some company can do there as well. College does not offer any stipend but in general the students doing internship in companies were been offered stipend between 5000-35000 rs.
Placement Experience
Most of the students were placed during my time, probably near 90%Companies like Accenture, Infosys 3.25lacs,TCS 3.25lacs,Sapient 4.25lacs,Winshuttle 5 lacs, Amdocs 4.25lacs ,DE Shaw 10-12lacs,Informatica 10 lacs and many other. The average package was around 4 lacs.
College Events
Thapar University is one of the big and good college of North India. Both cultural and technical fests are been organised. Normally these festivals are around 3-4 days in which events like computer coding rounds, quiz rounds organised by Dereck 'O Brien and singer nights with singers like Kailash Kher,Javed Ali and many others.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee structure is usually expensive. One year at my time cost me around 1.50 lacs including tutiion fees, hostel fees and mess charges. It included around 1.08 lacs of hostel plus tution fees,2k for mess monthly. Apart from these the personal expenses would be around 2-4k monthly.
Fees and Financial Aid
Yes college used to offer 100% tution fees waiver for the students having consistent 8.0 CGPA. Also Thapar university had a collaboration with some Canadian University for the exchange program.
Campus Life
Extracurricular activities included participation in societies like IEEE,annual sports function,Diwali hostel parties which involved good participation. The labs infrastrutcure was excellent and the lab sessions were taken very seriously. Other activities included cultural and technical fests, coding competitions, street dalal. There used to have robotics workshop. Inter college participation in robotics competition was very good and our college in fact won an award as well.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel accommodation facilities were good. The sharing was according as per the year in the student is studying. 1st year had 4 sharing,2nd year had 3 sharing,3rd year had twin sharing and final year single sharing. The rooms in the hostel were as per
Alumni/Alumna
College has come up with an alumni group through which they are organizing some events nearly every quarter in college or outside college. College alumni team is constantly in touch with the alumni to have a good participation.
Exam Structure
Our total curriculum were divided in to 8 semesters each of 6 months. For each semester we used to have 3 exams 2 mid sems and and 1 end semester that made all 6 months very hectic.
Faculty
Faculties were also a mix. Some really good and at other hand some were not at par. The faculties in some general subjects like chemistry were good at theoritical knowledge only other faculties foir the core subjects like algorithms, C, C++ were good at b
