Remarks

NIT Silchar is one of the best engineering colleges of India. The college environment is healthy. The infrastructure and facilities are good. College is involved in a lot of research work. Placement and Job opportunities are also good. The geographical contraint is the only factor which pushes NIT Silchar behind some excellent NITs.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

The course curriculum of NIT Silchar is about the same as followed by other NITs and engineering colleges. The 4 year course is divided into 8 semesters. For each semester, two exams- a Mid Semester exam of 30 marks, and a End Semester exam of 50 marks takes place. The rest 20 marks are given for attendance and internal assessments.

Placement Experience

4

The placement opportunities in NIT Silchar are one of the best among the colleges of North east India. Though other NITs provide excellent placement and job opportunities, NIT Silchar lags behind because of its geographical constraints. The companies visiting the college also provide Internship opportunities, with good companies like Goldman Sachs providing stipend as high as 70-80k per month.

College Events

4.5

The 3 main college fests of NIT Silchar are: 1. Tecnoesis- The annual techno-management fest of NITS. 2. Incandescence- The annual cultural fest of NITS. 3. Posua- The annual spring fest of NITS Besides these events, Gymkhana Student Union Body, Branch societies, and various technical and cultural clubs organise various events throughout the year.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Since NIT Silchar is a Govt. aided college, the fees is extremely feasible. The fees varies according to the family income of the student. For SC/ST category students, and students with annual family income below 1 Lac, the tuition fees is zero. While for students with annual income between 1-5 Lac, only 1/3rd of the tuition fees is charged.

Fees and Financial Aid

The college offers tuition fee waiver for SC/ST students, and students with low family income. Annual scholarships, based on merit, are also provided to some students who not availing fee waiver. The college also has a SBI branch, which provides student loans to the students.

Campus Life

4

The college is involved in a lot of research work, so the labs are good with good equipments. The college allocates a good budget for sports, and the sports environment in college is very good. The travel expenses for students participating in Inter-NIT, State level or National level competitions are borne by the college. The college has cricket ground, football ground, volleyball and basketball courts, tennis court, a skating club and many more.

Alumni/Alumna

The senior-junior interaction in NITS is excellent, and is one of the biggest advantage of studying here. The college alumni are still closely attached to the college, and provide help and resources to the students in need. Every year, a alumni meet is organised where the alumni come and interact with the students.

Admission

Admission in NIT Silchar takes place through the JEE(Mains) exam. I scored AIR 32720 in the General category, and got a seat in the ECE Department in the counseling conducted by JoSAA from the Home state(HS) quota.

Faculty

3.5

The faculty of the college consists of Professors, Asso. Professors and Assistant Professors, with minimum qualification of PhD. They are recruited after rounds of interview and are among best in their field. The faculty of NIT Silchar is highly experienced, engaged in some good research work, and are student friendly.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not really good in our college, it is more of a research institute so it mainly focuses on PhD as PhD strength is good. Higher education is more prefered here but placement scenario is also good

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is very relevant and is different for different branches according to their needs. I was interested in civil engineering and chose the course and find the curriculum intersting and relevant for me . The curriculum offers subject which are important for real world applications, like in civil engineering it's offers subjects like building construction, solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, material testing, serving, etc. The course curriculum is very good but the teaching methods needs improvement like more digitalization . The exams frequency and timings are neither too late nor too early, they are perfectly planned and executed.

Course Curriculum Overview:

There exists a good teaching staff that's why the course is very easy to understand also teachers give us good examples also do practicals so that's students understand the course easily . I see that there exist a low no of equipments in practical lab compare to it's students ratio so if they have a good no of equipments then all students get equipment to do experiment without any waste of time . Time is good as compare to marks and the first 30 marks are beginner level the other 40 marks are intermediate level and the remaining 30 Marks are advanced level questions in a question paper for the students they published.

Placement Experience:

The placement scenario is quite good, with several reputed companies like General Electric, Power Grid Corporation of India, Goldman Sachs, among others recruiting 94 percent of the students in the college. The placement takes place in three rounds, one testing one's aptitude, followed by an hour round, finally leading on to a technical round. Mock interview and job cracking sessions are organized regularly, both by the departments, and also the Training and Placement Cell, to prepare students for the interviews and examinations going forward. The Training and Placement Cell also provides internship opportunities at the end of third year for the students, based on their aptitude and abilities

Remarks:

I have mostly positive remarks about college except for the fact that the college is situated really far from mainstream north India. Train connectivity is not that strong to rest of country. But despite that the college is extremely good in the sense of learning, meeting new innovative minds, and of course placements and jobs.
