Course Curriculum Overview
The course subjects from Semester 3 upto Semester 6 are packed with extremely relevant subjects that are needed by today's industries. The labs are also extremely essential in giving us skills the industry requires today. Placements for tech in PES and co-curriculars are what made me choose it. The electives can be made better and they should market electives better. The frequency of exams are manageable at the moment but it is the difficulty in examinations that makes a lot of people falter.
Internships Opportunities
There are mutiple companies that offer internship only starting from the 6th semester. Students are pushed to take up internships in the summer break. I was offered a postion at Goldman Sachs as an operations analyst starting from January 2025.
Placement Experience
Placements for students begin during the 7th Semester. There are about 200 companies that visit for placements and roughly 500 offers made so far. Highest package offered is 40LPA so far and the average is 12LPA. Around 50-55% of students get placed. My plans after getting my degree is to work and prepare for an MBA
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee structure when I joined was 3,40,000. This included registration, admission, devlopment and lab fees and other compulsory charges. The admission was done through the PESSAT examination, KCET and Management and fee paid varied based on the courses opted for Management. The KCET fee is 90,000 which is standard and the management fee was 6,00,000 approximately. There are multiple scholarships offered to students of merit during the course. Broadly, there are 3 scholarships that exist- DAC, CNR and MRD Scholarships. The DAC Scholarships (INR 2000) are given if the student manages to secure an SGPA of 7.75 and above. The CNR scholarships are dished out to the students who rank in the top 20% of the respective department which is about 20% of the fees you pay and the MRD scholarships are offered to the top 2% of the department for the semester.
Campus Life
The biggest techno cultural fest, Aatmatrisha happens every academic year during the months of April or May. Most course books are available in the college libraries with the ability to borrow for 15 days at once and are available for single use during the time you spend at the Golden Jubilee Block library. If any book you need isnt available a request can be written to facilitate the availability of the book you need. Each classroom has a TV, white board and a black board. The college website and app are handy to get access to presentations made in classes, notes from professors or any practice question sets. There are provisions for most major sports played with dedicated and well maintained courts. Gymnasiums are also around. Students run multiple student portals and websites that benfit students. PES has about 200 active clubs that are technical and non technical in nature. They host multiple competitions, events and hackathons for students and in and off campus.
Hostel Facilities
There is 24x7 water, electricty and WiFi available. There are fans, a cot, a study table per student, bathroom(common or attached) and cupboards. There are 3 different messes. One is a pure vegetarian and the other two messes primarily serve vegetarian food with exception for 2 days in the week where non vegetarian food is served. The regisstration process is quite simple and follows standard procedures where a form is to be filled with a parent and local guardian present. A deposit of 35,000 is compulsory while joining which will be returned when you decide to leave the hostel.
Admission
The placement records spoke for themselves and the fascinating infrastructure. The course I got offered was not very lucrative and didn't have a future. There are 3 ways to join are through KCET, PESSAT and through management. KCET counselling happens through the Karnataka Government and the PESSAT counselling happens through PES through those students who have written the PESSAT examinations in a similar fashion. The admission process is extremely smooth and seamless.
Faculty
The faculty to student ratio is 1:13 roughly. A professor teaching you a course can give you their undivided attention and help wherever required. Some fantastic professors who taught us were, Ms. Sushmita, Dr. Venkatrangan, Dr Rex Joseph, Dr. Prasanna Kumar. Real passion for teaching and high calibre professors who have tremendous depth in the concepts they teach. Dr. Gayatri Devi, Dr. Venugopal were very sub-par. They lacked depth in the courses they taught and were very un-engaging and unproductive in their courses. There are a total of 5 subjects in 1 semester. There are 2 internals every semester for 40 marks per subject, the aggregrate of which is converted to 30 marks. The latter 20 marks are for the project work. The 3 four credit courses are graded for 100 marks and 2 five credit courses are graded for 120 marks where 20 marks are for the work done in the lab. The final exam is for 100 marks which is then reduced to 50. The totals of the final exams (reduced to /50) are added to the other marks /50 to get the final grade. The difficulty of the internals, projects, lab work and final exams are moderate-difficult level. S grade = 90-100 A grade = 80-89 B grade = 70-79 C grade = 60-69 D grade = 50-59 E grade = 40-49 F grade = <39
