Course Curriculum Overview
I always had a nick for reading and learning about literature, which is why I chose English honours as my bachelors degree. It is quite structured, and covers areas of European, middle eastern, oriental and American history and literary developments. The curriculum gives us in-depth knowledge of women's issues, modern movements and ancient ones, which also equip us with knowledge about the history of development of where we stand today. Areas of improvement could be making texts less complicated or prescribing text books with modern language. Apart from all this, we have regular in-class tests and papers to help us prepare for our exams at the end of each semester, before which, there is an internal examination like a viva. Attendance and submission of assignments also contribute to the marks in our CGPA or SGPA
Placement Experience
Campus placement is done in the 3rd year. The highest PPO given is 24,00,000 to auditing and taxation departments. Average package is about ?15,00,000 to ?18,00,000. Companies like Eay, KPMG and more visit our college for placement. Most students under the commerce department get offered internships. Other than this, the placement cell also actively keeps sending internship opportunities for students to enhance their profiles. I am an English honours student l, thus there is no placement option for me directly unless I take up options from the P-Cell. I have already interned at EY India, Gurgaon, as a forensics and risk management specialist( throigh personal referral). My knowledge (attained from DCAC) of research, report and article writing were used adequately.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions
My fees for BA(honours) English at DCAC, DU south campus is 9375 for my second year, and for my first year it was 10,225. It is quite affordable at a breakdown of just 750-850 rupees a month for a government college. The slabs for SC/ST and other reserved categories is reduced by , summing at about 8495 rupees annually, and only 105 rupees for PwD students There is no other registration fee or development fee, except end sem examination fee.
Campus Life
We have somewhere between 7-11 fests in our college as we can not have one major fest due to restrictions placed by the civil servants society behind our college, no loud, disrupting music to be played. So, each society hosts their own fests with a theme; this in my opinion is better than one major fest, as we get 2-3 month long fests and have multiple famous personalities visit our college. The activities and stalls are a sight to see, the campus is well decorated too. As for the sports and extra curricular, we have screenings on Fridays for movies based on novels in our courses, there is a gym, cheez and TT table, a common ground for cricket, volleyball and football. We also have a basketball court. The library is filled with endless books. The dance, fashion, debate, dramatics and poetry society is a hit among students,
Admission
I applied to the top 10 colleges of DU, offering BA English honours. I scored 728/800 in my CUET exams and was allotted DCAC in the first list itself as there is no GD/PI to make up for marks. DCAC was on the 8th position of my list, I had applied to ( in order from 1-10) Hindu college, ST. Stephens, Kirori Mal college, Ramjas college, Miranda house, LSR, JMC, DCAC, IPCW and Venky. If I were better prepared for my entrance exams, I could have gotten a north campus college too, but I have no regrets as south campus offers more dedicated professors. The admission process involves giving a CUET exam at exam centres for compulsory subjects needed for chosen courses, calculating raw score and filling a pe refenece list based on marks scored.
Faculty
Overall, the faculty for arts and commerce courses mostly have PHD and other certifications, making them well equipped with knowledge to pass onto us. They are quite approachable and understanding towards their students. I'd say the best professor of our department is Mr. Amit Kumar Yadav, he is well equipped with skills to help us understand the most complicated of literature based concepts and is also helpful in extra curriculars. The professor that is not preferred by most students is Mrs. Santosh for her short temper and also Mrs. Jyotsna's for her irregularity in taking lectures and rushing at the end of the semester. We have 4 main paper exams which are fairly easy if one indulges in lectures with focus or have a good self study regime, other electives, depending on the paper chosen, may have practical exams, but not have theory exams. Only those who have a lackadaisical attitude towards studies will fail to pass these exams, else, it is easy to score around 7.5-8 CGPA.
