- The common lab have various equipments but some needs proper service and repair. Though we get great lab experience during dissertation, the couse practicals are too basic for the course.
- Though the department and faculties are of high level the administration needs a serious improvements.
Course Curriculum Overview :
as this course is a little advanced course the curriculum starts with some basic aspects which is good for students even from completely unrelated course backgrounds. This is a big positive as well as a negative aspect of the curriculum. As the curriculum is composed of basic matters, the highly advanced part which is closely related to the course is less taught. For some things, that need practical experience, we only end up with some basic theories. The teaching methods are actually good and unique as each faculty teaches in their own way. We have 4 semesters in the curriculum with the last sem completely for dissertation and viva. The exams are 2 internals and end semester exam for the first 3 sems. The exams have easy to tough questions to analyze the student's capabilities.
Internships Opportunities :
The internship opportunities are not an assured matter in our department as they can be provided with a stipend only if any funding committee is ready to provide additional funds for such research. But our faculties have good academic connections which can help us get in touch with various places with such opportunities.
Placement Experience :
There are departments with placements and university has got a placement cell. There are also various career guidance classes, Innovation and entrepreneurship development centre(IEDC) to support students. But my course is more of a research oriented and as such I can apply for phd opportunities myself. The faculties will help in getting internships, recommendations and journal publications as long as long as we are interested.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
The tution fee during my period was around 2000-3000 in each semester as there is a variation between semesters due to dissertation charges of lab-related charges. Now the rate has increased which I am not fully aware of but the overall fee for 2 years will be less than 25000. Where a caution deposit of nearly 5000 will be returned after the course completion. There are various state and national scholarships available, one that I know from Kerala is e-grantz. Semester-wise hostel fee is around 3400. But the overall hostel fee varies as the mess bill is monthly and can come around between 2900-3400.
Campus Life :
The campus life is really free and heartwarming. There are lot of places inside campus itself for students to spend their time, which includes to cafeteria and 1 canteen. There is also library, campus store, sunset point and footpaths with benches. There is also an open stage and an open auditorium, shuttle Courts, football ground etc. The main cultural programme is cangama which last for 3 days. There are also various sports, department wise onam, christmas, holi celebrations. All class classrooms are smart classrooms. There us student council, NSS, IEDC etc run by students.
Admission :
The course admission is besed on a national level entrance test called Common University Entrance test(CUET) conducted by NTA. The cuttoff varies every year. The course admission will be available only after the CUET results are published. The application will be available in the university website. The entrance exam needs some good preparation if you need a good score. There are reservations for SC, ST, EWS, physically disabled in each course.
Faculty :
Currently our faculty to students ratio is 5 students for 1 faculty. The faculties are from very good academic backgrounds. Most of them have done their PhDs or postdocs from foreign universities and all have a great number of international journal publications. Each have their own way of teaching and mentoring. Overall, all are highly supportive to students. Every single faculties are very easy to approach and are very friendly. During dissertation as each faculty will have 4-6 students under them is plprovided with special care in their research and academics. The students can choose lab to to dissertation based on their choice. They also almost never care or discriminate anyone on their marks. They are ready to completely help you as long as you have an interest to learn. We usually interact with our teachers almost daily and some of our classes are more of a scientific discussions rather than plain classes. Every faculty are highly capable in our department.
