Course Curriculum Overview

4

The curriculum is a perfect mix of traditional and modern English studies. It ranges from a basic understanding of the language, followed by a comprehensive study of the history of English literature. Most canonical texts are given proper weightage, ranging from drama, fiction and poetry. The syllabus teaches these at a chronological order, which instills respect for history. The syllabus also has a strong grasp over theory, with everything from Plato and Aristotle to modern and postmordern theories being taught. There are four exams, including an assignment or presentation, which might be a little too much in the beginning. The curriculum could be improved by adding more Indian and South East Asian texts, and reducing the redundancy in moving from graduate to postgraduate courses.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fee has remained the same for as long as I've remained here, and I've paid 11'433 for a semester. The university accepts all state and national level scholarships such as Ishan Uday. I have not taken any employments inside the campus.

Campus Life

4

Tezpur University has a science festival called Inscignis in February. The university also has a technical festival called Techxetra in May. Most classes are smart classes, with audio visual aids. The university also provides seminar halls to all the departments. TU boasts two playing fields for cricket and football, a basketball court, a volley ball court, an indoor court for badminton and table tennis, and a court for tennis. It also provides coaching for taekwondo and swimming. The university has multiple student run clubs such as the Quiz Club, the Film Club, the Chess Club, the Dance Club, and many more.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

The hostels are of high standards, with spacious rooms. Most are two seaters, with a few single seaters particularly for final year students. All basic amenities such as a fan, two large wardrobes and shelfs are provided. The rooms also have the usual tables and multiple lights, and two socket boards for the boarders. The overall environment is mostly hygienic and certainly safe. The registration is done alongside tje admission. The mess food is mostly decent, and definitely hygienic. Both veg and non veg items are provided, with the mess catering for the diverse boarders.

Admission

The admission was smooth, with a proper entrance test. The test required us to appear for a paper which had both an objective paper and a subjective test. The objective paper had MCQ's based of discipline specific knowledge and general knowledge. The same subjective section had essay based questions. The course is eligible to all students who have passed AISSCE with a minimum of 55% for general students. All forms and details are available on the university's website. The exams occur once a year, with a difficulty level that is certainly appropriate.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The institution provides a vast syllabus prescribed according to the courses . I did hons in english so in my field I had to study a vast syllabus ranging from ancient greek and roman literature to modern dramas The English course consists of poems, dramas, novels, novellas and many other. The course or syllabus is varies with different stage of semester or year In the first semester we had study the follows Greek literature and epic Roman literature Early indian literature In the second semester Roman literature Indian literature In the third semester Popular literature British literature American literature ....... The proficiency of students is checked in the exams where in the first sessional the level of questions remain easy Moderate to difficult in the second sessional and increases the level of difficulty with the progression of semesters If I will talk about the pros of the course It gives an insight of to the vastness of the world of literature which helps the students in different fields. It gives an opportunity to study different stories written by different writers from different countries and helps in to learn the culture, language, society, polity and the history of a particular period of literature movement. It also helps the students to think critically and creatively to utilise it in the real life scenarios. There are also some cons of this course It's vastness can sometimes make students burnt out completely due to the vastness of the course and the limited time frame where you have to cover everything from poems, novels with 300 pages to seminars , internships
