Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The MA English course curriculum offers a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical skills essential for both real-world applications and further academic pursuits. Specifically, the inclusion of modules focusing on literary theory, critical analysis, and language studies influenced my decision to choose this course. The curriculum effectively prepares students for real-world applications by fostering critical thinking, research abilities, and communication skills, which are valuable in fields such as education, publishing, journalism, and more. However, the curriculum could benefit from more diverse perspectives, including non-Western literature and marginalized voices, to offer a more inclusive and comprehensive understanding of the literary world. Regarding teaching methods, the course offers a variety of assessment methods, including essays, presentations, and exams. Though some students may find the current exam schedule overwhelming.

Fees and Financial Aid

Central University of Karnataka offers financial assistance to low caste students as well as economically backward students, they also recieve a reduced cut off in admission procedures as well. Per semeseter the charges include Hostel fees (2400rs) as well as mess fees (varies), a grand total of 14-15k.

Campus Life

3.5

The campus life has been very eventful as it included a multutude of activities such as club, department, elective related festivals as well as programs. annual and cultural festivities are usually held at July or August, but various department and club activities has no specific time frame as it depends on the consent by the administration. The library offers a vast collection of books collected all over the country as well as donations. There are also very good facilities in the University such as AC classrooms and Auditoriums. As for sports, we have a basketball, tennis, football courts as well as a well funcioning gym. As for student run clubs, it varies according to the department and all of them have their own supervising professor.

Hostel Facilities

3

The facilities provided in a hostel room include a chair, desk as well as a bunker bed and a storage space. We are also allotted a water purifier and 15 bathroom stalls per block. The meal quality is average, but we are given desserts for dinner at special days and Saturdays, plus non-veg on Sundays. The registration process in fairly simple as all we need to do is give our registration details to the hostel warden and a room is allotted. The hostel fees are 2400 rs per semester, but the mess fees varies every semester.

Admission

The admission process for the MA English course involved taking the CUET exams, which comprised a 400-mark question paper with a marking scheme of minus 0.25 for incorrect answers and plus four for correct ones. Eligibility for the course required a minimum of 55% in my BA Degree, along with satisfactory results in my Higher Secondary and High School examinations. To access the application form, applicants could visit the PG Samarth website administered by the government. However, it's worth noting that application fees and deadlines varied from year to year. Additionally, reservation benefits through CUET were contingent upon the university selected and weren't fixed. In terms of the examination process, the CUET exams were held with a moderate level of difficulty and necessitating an early one-hour reporting time. Despite these regulations, there were notable grievances regarding the National Testing Agency's (NTA) handling of the CUET exams.

I am not quite sure about the packages offered.

Placement Experience:

By the end of the 2nd semester, we are constantly notified about any vacancies in any department. The college placement cell sends us notifications through our class monitors or sometimes throyoutlr HOD. Even after the end of our final semester exam, we are added in a group that is specially meant for job opportunities and placements, where they constantly update and notify us. Out of 32 students in our class, a total of 12 students got placement. As for me, my plan is to do PhD in the said field.

Curriculum is relevant for us which helps us to attempt competitive exams. Actually the curriculum changes our mindset and it helps to face the real society. I don't think that improvements needes in curriculum. We get one & half hour for internal tests and 3 hours for sem exams and it is enough foe us to cover whole question paper.

curriculum is extensive and large and some students find it hard to grasp all the knowledge given for the syllabus. it may seem daunting at first but i rather prefer this than having little to nothing to study as it helps me find new things to read which i would have never figured out before.
