What Students Say

Likes

Faculty does not create any pressure to their student.
Clubs and other social events are open to all.
There is a club named JYOTI which provide free tuition to poor students.

Dislikes

Canteen could be better. It is not available for whole day.
You can easily miss your lecture still you will get attendance due to proxy.
College staff and cleaning members are not sufficient

Course Curriculum Overview

I have keen interest in computer since my childhood that's why I opted this course. Faculty and student ratio is not expected , it can be improved. Faculty members are well educated and well enough to teach. There are 2 internal examination and it is not tough to pass if you attend classes regularly.

Class Size: 63Course Fees: INR 110000 per year

Internships Opportunities

Cogigent, TCS ,Akash etc visited and offered internship to students with stipend. Students make projects under the professor which is a benifetial part of student life aand it is necessary to do it. One can put it on his/her resume.

Placement Experience

From 5th semester student can appear for placement. There are various recruters visited JGEC like - Akash and offered many students.Highest package was 64 LPA and average is 9 LPA. Almost 80 % student get placed.I would like to go with Masters.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees of this college is much more than JU but you can easily get scholarships like- SVMCM, OASIS and others also.You can take benifit of scholarship provided by Alumni assosiation. You can grab internship on campus also.

Campus Life

There are 2 types of fest annual and tech fest. Annual fest name is JECLET and tech fest name is SRISHTI conducted in Mar to Oct mainly. It vary from admission and counselling process. Books are available in library. You can join sports club if you have interest in sports and you can join other sociaties also. Clubs like- Cyber security, D&C, Pandulipi, CFI etc. are run by students.

Admission

You have to complete 10+2 with math. You should have domicile of WB. To take admission in this college you have to appear in WBJEE examination conducted by WB. The application fee for this exam will cost 400 rupees and its application process is ongoing. If you have reservation you can take an edge on it. The admission process is very friendly and it will not create any problem for you.

The course curriculum is very relevant and useful for us.They teach data structures algorithm that is very important for college placements and they also teach os, networks and other usefull things that is very important in computer science.They provide very high quality labs and the whole college has a good internet connection.Tecahers are very educated and good they helps us and teaching in very good way .The exams time schedule is also very good if there is any problem the college will change the exam date that is really a good thing.

Story of hit

Placement Experience:

The campus placement from recently past years is slightly good . Like tcs infosys cognizant ibm Capgemini like companies comes every year with good placement and capsitech gives you internship from 3 year . From 7th sem you are eligible for campus placement in 2025 the avg package is 5-7 lpa and Highest lpa is 75lpa . My plan is getting good job in good company

Placement Experience:

7th semester is when the students get to sit for placements. I am not sure about the total no of companies visited but I am aware of the name of few companies like IBM Infosys Wipro Capsitech Tech Mahindra cognizant etc . Mostly the girls are 100 percent placed cause there is diversity hiring. Mass recruiters is what visit our campus mostly.. I personally would look for a job after graduation highest package offered displayed by college is 75 lpa but I don't think so it is real. Maybe someone had worked hard and got placed off campus. On campus highest isbi guess 12-14 lpa

Course Curriculum Overview:

- I choose Data Science as it is new to my college when comparing with the other branches. The curriculum is just okay it is not per industry standards but if students deep drives in each aspects then they are likely to crack GATE exams. - The whole curriculum needs and improvement from the very 1st Year and removal of irrelevant subjects like Discrete Mathematics, Electonics, Biology for IT branches are required. - Semester exams are conducted every 6 months and CTs are conducted every 2 months

NIT Durgapur:-A wholesome Insight in the college life and it's different aspects

Placement Experience:

For campus placements student become eligible from the 7th semester onwards and for internships student get eligible from 5th semester onwards. Wide no of companies visited our campus around 180+ and made around 580+ offers to the students. The highest salary was 58LPA which was offered by DE Shaw and the highest accepted salary was 51LPA in Microsoft.The average package rolls roughly around 10-12 LPA.The profile offered include SDE roles, management roles,finance in some cases.The overall placement percentage was around 80% with Branches like electrical and metallurgy moving above 90% followed by CSE and ECE in the mid 80s while for biotech and civil the placement percentage are generally below 70.My plans after getting the degree is to land a job offer from on campus placements.Therefafter maybe look out for and MBA from top B schools of india.

Unbiased Review of JGEC

I applied to a few other government engineering colleges but i ended up choosing JGEC.The main reasons: JGEC is a well established,fully government owned autonomous college,with good accreditation.It also has a long history since 1961,which made me trust its academic environment.Compared to other colleges i applied to ,JGEC felt more stable and credible.It also has a reasonable structure and good campus infrastructure,labs and oppurtunities for intership .There is also a good scope for higher studies like GATE.The marks vs rank went extremely high in WBJEE 2025.That's why i didn't get a college i applied for which is near my home. You can take admission by giving WBJEE and JELET only.As it is a government college you can only take admission if you get a good rank .There is also different cut-offs for diff catagory.The overall admission process is was very smooth and systematic....Read More

According to my West Bengal joint entrance examination rank I said for the counselling in the first round I got Kalyani Government Engineering College with IT department but that was with the reservation under EWS quota with rank 2869. As I was not able to get me EWS certificate my admission there was cancelled and then according to my preference I got Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College with electronic and communication engineering department.
