What Students Say
Likes
- The campus is green and great . The grounds are well maintained .. i wouldn't say the gym is very good but the indoor sports facility is really great.
- Library is really great and spacious. One of the best aspects of being a part of HIT haldia is the access to the library.
- Few labs are good and air conditioned well not all are this good though.
Dislikes
- Our department class does not have AC for 1st and 2nd years.Other departments have it.
- We do not get a academic calendar before hand so it's really hard to be sure about examination dates and internal exams.although they inform us before hand but having an academic calendar before hand helps a lot to plan things out .
- There has not been a single cultural event or technical fest as they had mentioned and advertised which is really dispointing . And also there is still the culture of intros and ragging existing in hit.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is outdated and mostly all colleges I found in the same condition . Specially college following makaut guidelines. Theory is what is actually tested in college examinations. People prepare for placements on there own using online resources. Few clubs do organise events for skill development like webdev etc but it just gives you a brief idea about it. It does not teach you full fledged knowledge about that particular field you have to learn on your own later.
Placement Experience
7th semester is when the students get to sit for placements. I am not sure about the total no of companies visited but I am aware of the name of few companies like IBM Infosys Wipro Capsitech Tech Mahindra cognizant etc . Mostly the girls are 100 percent placed cause there is diversity hiring. Mass recruiters is what visit our campus mostly.. I personally would look for a job after graduation highest package offered displayed by college is 75 lpa but I don't think so it is real. Maybe someone had worked hard and got placed off campus. On campus highest isbi guess 12-14 lpa
Fees and Financial Aid
Our fees is different for odd and even semesters. For odd semester it is Rs 71250 and for even semesters it is Rs 68750. 1st semester total amount I paid was Rs 93950 because it included registration fees admission fees etc. I did not opt for hostel since the first year so my fees is lesser. In the first semester. Tution fees was 60500 rs admission fees was 10000 rs refundable caution money 5000 rs sports and student welfare fees 1000 rs library fee 1500 rs cost of admission /id card/ prospects fee 5000 rs development fees 8250 rupees university registration fees 500 rupees and university development fees 2200 rupees. Additionally we pay 2000 rupees every semester as part of registration free for examination which is 16000 over a span of 4 years as examination registration fees.
Campus Life
No technical and cultural festes till now since I have joined the college. Library is great and one of the few good things in this college. Variety of books are available and plenty space to study in the library. Class rooms have smart boards but 1st and 2nd year donot have AC in there classes. Grounds are great but due to ragging and intro culture mostly students are not allowed in the field during 1st years. Lots of clubs are operating in HIT namely ieee gdg hit haldia... But the recruitment of a very few is genuine.Mostly it is rigged.
Admission
I appeared for wbjee and got this college through counselling. I applied for all major colleges like heritage kolkata, techno main salt lake, jadavpur kalyani and jalapaiguri govt engg colleges. I made a few mistakes in filling out the order for college selection otherwise I would have got into techno heritage etc .
Faculty
There are 3 internal examinations both for labs and theory and a final semester exam. Mostly teachers are fine . They do complete the syllabus for the sake of doing it and do not care much to be honest . Mostly people learn from YouTube etc and prepare for exams.
Night Life
Girls have hostel timings around 7 pm there gate closes. Boys are not allowed hostels from 2nd year only 1st year boys get hostel facility and they donot have timings as such. Night life is mostly students roaming around the campus and a few spots like cc and riverside . There isn't much to do around haldia.
Other Applied Colleges
