Remarks

There are a lot of good things for Model Engineering College. Placements, ranks, academics are all very good here. Only step back of this college is its infrastructure. Model Engineering College has a smaller campus. This is the only bad remark you can say about this college.

Entrance Preview

You should write KEAM, exam conducted under Govt of Kerala, to get your admission here. I scored around 300 marks in entrance examination. Board exam marks will also be considered for rank calculation. I got around 4000 rank in KEAM. There are 3 types of seats here. Government, Management and NRI. Government and management seats are filled based on KEAM rank. Whereas NRI seats will be allowed by the college management. MEC is one of the best college in Kerala in terms of both academics and placements. MEC has secured great ranks in college rankings. Electronics and communication is one of the best branches here.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The course curriculum is tough and vast. There's a lot to study which will be helpful for students for doing higher studies. Nowadays as all the colleges are under APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University, the curriculum is constructed by experienced professors from top institutes in India.

Placement Experience

5

MEC is one of the best colleges in Kerala in terms of placements. Many big companies in various fields conduct placement here. Ansys, Bosch, Deloitte, Ericsson, Ittiam, MediaTek, Microsoft, Oracle, Synopsis, TCS, Wipro, Zoho are some of the major companies that visit here. Around 303 placements were offered with a percentage around 80%. EC and CS have placement percentage above 90. Average package is around 7 lakhs.

College Events

5

Excel 2018, annual techno-managerial symposium, of Model Engineering College is one of the largest and best tech tests in India. Conducted solely by students it's regarded as one of the best fests. Annual sports and arts conducted usually on the month of January help students chill out from their academic life.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Government seat has 35000 per annum fees. Whereas management and NRI seats have 75000 and 1 lakh per annum respectively as tuition fees. It is feasible for most of the students. It is not too expensive compared to many of the private colleges. MEC have one of the best Return of investment rank in the colleges of Kerala.

Fees and Financial Aid

I'm not quite sure about the scholarship and loan facility. Some financial assistance is provided for students who are financially backward but who are good in academics. And some scholarship is provided for students which belong to minority castes. There are no other loan facility or scholarships provided here other than these, to my knowledge.

Campus Life

2.5

Campus life is good and enjoyable. The campus is relatively small. You will get to know students of almost all year's and batches. Branches like CS and Biomedical have a higher number of girls, whereas EEE will have a higher number of boys. EC is normally equal in a number of boys and girls. Students from various parts of India join here. Extracurricular activities are enjoyable here. Many clubs are formed so that students can do something extra other than academics. All branches have their own clubs and IEEE, quiz club, debate club, innovation club, entrepreneurship cell are all present here. There is no campus politics here.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

Hostel facility is available only for boys. Girls should go to private hostels around the college which are good too. Men's hostel has limited capability. Only around 50 students are allowed each year. The hostel is good in cleanliness and food compared to many other hostels. The room is shared between 2-3 students. Mess in the hostel run by students itself. Average fees for a month is around 3500. For PGs average room rental is around 3000, without food facility.

Alumni/Alumna

MEC have one of the best and largest alumni networks. Large no of alumni of Model Engineering College are in various fields and are in top positions of various companies. There is no much gap or separation between seniors and juniors in this college. All are friendly and everyone has equal priority everywhere. Seniors will be friendly and will be there for you whenever you need their help.

Exam Structure

Exams and Labs were not so hectic. You don't have to do rushing to complete your Labs. You can take your time, with the help of informative lab assistants, who'll help you out anytime. Exams are not frequent and all. It was conducted on time with enough time between them.

Admission

I got admission by centralized allotment system. You'll have to give college and course options for all colleges under KEAM. You'll get alloted based on your KEAM rank. Then you'll have to attend the councilling at the particular college on the date provided. There

Faculty

3.5

Faculty members of this college are well qualified and experienced. They're always there for your help in every matter. They equally support the academics and extracurricular activities. Faculty members are interested in helping us to bring out our best.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is the worst. Teachers rush through the portions so that they can finish at the earliest. It may be because the university has a unjustifiable timetable. There is very little practicals given. The ones that are given are just for namesake.

Placement Experience:

The students usually start appearing for campus placements in their 6th semester. The training for the campus placements is started for all the students from the 4th semester. Many companies visited for campus placements. But one main problem is that most of them were low packages. Around 4LPA. Some were between 4-6 and a very few between 6-10. Most of them got placed in our batch in some company.
