Course Curriculum Overview

5

I chose computer engineering because since childhood I have been very fond of computers and accessories and gradually my interest in software increased and due to that I took the computer engineering branch. The faculties of Thapar are very good. All of them have done their Ph.D. and are from IITs and they have in-depth knowledge about their subject and their teaching skills and methods are very good. They are very supportive and helpful. They are always there to help students solve their doubts. The course curriculum is very precise and there are mid-term and end-term exams. No need to take too much burden of exams. You can pass the exam even after studying for only 2 days before the exam.

Internships Opportunities

5

From the 5th semester onwards students are eligible to sit in an internship drive. Very good companies come to college to provide internship opportunities and the average stipend they provide is 30k which according to me is great.

Placement Experience

5

The placements of thapar is amazing and there placements record is increasing year by year. From 5th semester students are eligible for internship opportunities and from 7th semester students are eligible for placements . There are 250+ companies visiting every year in thapar and this year more than 1700 students are placed. The highest package offered is more than 50 lacs and average package is 13 lac this year and more than 95% students placed this year. My plan is to do job in my dream company.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees of Thapar is very high and all the students can't afford it. Some students even take education loans for college fees. there are many scholarship opportunities available for students. Most of them are based on cgpa of the year. All the information regarding scholarships is available on the website only. The list of students who get scholarships is also available on the college website itself. So my advice is to study hard get a good cgpa above 9.5 and you will surely get a scholarship. There is a specific department of finance that will assist you with your financial-related queries. Campus placements are very good. This year more than 1,500 got on-campus placement which to me is a good number and the average package is 13 lac.

Campus Life

5

Life on campus is very great. Hostels are very great. There is greenery in the campus. The annual fest of Thapar is Saturnalia. This is a very big fest of Thapar which is held in November every year. I am also a past of the Saturnalia team in the finance department. There are also many other societies as well. I am part of many clubs and also the gensec of the Paryavaran society. The library of Thapar is the best in India having so many books and ebooks. The classrooms are really great like a movie theater and there are sports clubs also and many sports tournaments also held in college and I was also part of the cricket team.

Hostel Facilities

5

Thapar provides the best hostel facilities. They provide 5-star hotel-like facilities. In the hostel, they have hostels according to the year in which the student is enrolled. They have double-sharing and single-sharing rooms. Single sharing rooms are of 2 types i.e. attached washroom and sharing washroom. They have Sodexo mess the facilities provided by Sodexo are great. The menu is decided by the mess committee and the food they provide is delicious. The process of registration is available on the Thapar website and the fee details are also provided on the Thapar website. the hostel Life of Thapar is amazing. The nature of the caretaker and warden is good and very helpful. They are always there for you and there is also a gym in the hostel which is very great. There is too much greenery in the hostel and they also organise hostel night and Diwali parties in the hostel.

Admission

The admission process is very easy. There is no entrance exam for this. Admission is based on 12th marks and JEE MAINS rank. In Thapar, there is a 50% quota for Punjab students as I belong to Punjab so I easily got my 1st preference branch in online counseling only. The information regarding counseling and the cut-off list is available only on the Thapar website. So the admission process is very easy and if you don't get your preferred branch then there are two more chances to change your branch. Firstly at the end of 1st semester by giving the December test and secondly after 1st year by CGPA. So there is no need to worry about your branch

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The interest in coding influenced me to choose this subject and course. The curriculum gets me ready for a 9-5 job which kind of gets hectic. The teachers could maybe schedule classes to give the students time to study what they want to and if they wish to do a course outside the university they have the time to do so rather than just going by the university curriculum
