Remarks

I would definitely say that college management is very bad. Management thinking is same low level thinking. They are over-strict in matter of discipline. They do not take any major actions to improve college status. They keep promising for big changes but never works to implement those changes.

Entrance Preview

I got this college through COMEDK exam which is specifically meant for Non-Karnataka students. I got 18205 rank. Well this college is in Shivamogga, a small city in Karnataka 270 km from Bengaluru. I wanted to study my engineering in Bengaluru but my rank was not good enough to get a good college there. As far as this college is considered, it has the same name, same trustee and logo of a college which comes among the top 3 colleges in Karnataka. So I thought that this college is some another branch of that top college and I was getting this college at my rank. So I opted for this college and here I did the mistake. After getting admission in this college, I came to know that the complete management of both the colleges are different and got to know from seniors that this college is not at all good. But I was quite late to change the college so I decided to stay there only.

Course Curriculum Overview

3

All colleges affiliated to VTU follow the curriculum set by the university. Honestly, I feel the curriculum was a little old considering what current technology trend is and what curriculum other universities follow. The curriculum is updated every 4 years but hardly there will be any changes to it.

Internships Opportunities

No. This college doesn't provide internship. If any student want to go for any internship, he/she has to search by himself/herself. Although, in my last year, one company offered internship to 3 of my batch mates. The company's name was Evive Healthcare and they gave them a stipend of Rs 7000 for 3 month internship.

Placement Experience

2

Placements and job opportunities are average in this college. Hardly any core company visits this college to offer jobs. Rest all the companies are start-up or some not so huge name companies. Though the placement officer of the college tries hard to get many companies as possible but the students themselves doesn't show up for many companies, probably because many of the companies came for support job and others were paying very less. Some of the training companies also visited the college which shortlisted few students for their training program for half of their original fees and after completing that training, that company sends students for further placements. Following are the few companies which visited the college along with their offered package: 1. Evive Health - Rs 5.5 lakh per annum 2. Tech Mahindra - Rs 2.9 lakh per annum 3. Global Edge - Rs 1.8 lakh per annum 4, Career Prime - Rs 2.5 lakh per annum 5. Sunquest - Rs 2.5 lakh per annum 6. Maintec - Rs 2.3 lakh per annum 7. Royal Enfield - Rs 1.8 lakh per annum 8. Infosys BPO - Rs 2.2 lakh per annum 9. Betsol - Rs 2.9 lakh per annum 10. JoulesToWatts - Rs 2.5 lakh per annum 11. Vyshnavi Infotech - Rs. 2.2 lakh per annum 12. Srichid - Rs 2.3 lakh per annum Out of around 450 students, a total of around 60-70 students were selected on-campus and around 30-40 were selected off-campus. Around 100 students were offered training from training companies like Ethnus, ABC Group, Alpha-9, JSpiders, QSpiders, RIIIT.

College Events

2.5

Every year, the college conduct its annual fest Prerana which is a 2-day intra-college cultural fest. Around 24 events are there such as Dancing, Singing, Acting, Mime, Treasure Hunt, Cooking without fire, Technical Quiz, Short Movie making, Debate, Spell B etc. A lot of students participate in these events but the performances are not that great. Other than this, each branch keeps conducting their separate small branch events such as Dubsmash competition, Rangoli competition, Class decoration competition, Quiz, or any other unique idea of event given by any student. They conduct these events for at least once in each semester. Although branch events participation is a little disappointment in this college. Other than these, some technical workshops are also kept for students at least once in each semester.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Being a private college, I would say that fees is little less when compared to other private colleges. For Non-Karnataka students, its tuition fees is around RS 1 Lakh per year and for Karnataka students, it is Rs 50,000 per year. Hostel fees is Rs 46,000 per year. Other than this, for Karnataka students, college provide various scholarships. Students have to pay the fees every year in the first 2 months of a course-year beginning.

Fees and Financial Aid

Scholarships are only available for Karnataka students such as based on their entrance examination ranking, and few for minorities.

Campus Life

4.5

The gender ratio of the college is almost 1:1. Although Mechanical branch only consists of boys, rest of the branches have more girls compared to boys. Most of the students in the college are from Karnataka only with 2% of North-Indian students and 1% of other South-Indian states students. In case of conducting Student/Dorm is very poor. There are no dorm parties conducted in the college and as far as Fresher or Farewell parties for students are considered, there are many restrictions on conducting them like party should be only conducted between 2-5 pm, no outside food is allowed, outside food catering is not allowed, girls cannot wear any dresses which expose even a little bit of their body above ankle, body should be fully covered, no western dresses are allowed, no loud music is allowed. And moreover all the expenses are to paid by students conducting the party. Most importantly, no party can be conducted outside the college campus. It must be conducted in seminar hall of the college. So, its a total waste of those parties. Some technical workshops are conducted every year such as on Ethical Hacking, IOT, Robotics etc but participation in these workshops by students is very poor. College has a Nokia-Lab where mostly all the IT workshops takes place. Every branch has labs which fills basic needs for a particular branch. All the labs are well equipped with all the instruments needed. Sports section of the college is really good. Every year various sports events are held in college such as Football, Cricket, Volley Ball, Throw Ball, Kabaddi etc.. College has its own Cricket stadium, Football stadium, Basket Ball court, Tennis court, Volley Ball court. Gym of the college is not well equipped and is very small.

Hostel Facilities

2.5

Hostel in this college is an average hostel-type. There are 2 blocks for boys hostel and 1 block for girls hostel. 24 hours water facility, though electricity is sometimes not available. There is no WiFi facility in hostel. One block of boys hostel have attached bathroom in each room. Every room is shared by 4 students. Rooms are pretty neat. Although I feel size of the rooms are little small for 4 students but its manageable. Mess of the hostel is extremely horrible. Food is pathetic. We have complained many times about the food, but no actions were taken and later every student gets used to it. Hostel rent is very cheap which includes mess charges. It is Rs 46,000 per year. Mess's food need to be improved a lot, rooms should be on 3-students sharing basis and WiFi facility should be provided to students.

Alumni/Alumna

Few of my seniors were really good and helpful to me and with some I share a special bond. Not all are good, but usually seniors tend to help their juniors in any problem, be it is assignment, project work or any subject study.

Exam Structure

The engineering course in this college has 8 semesters. Every semester has 2 internals and 1 improvement internal examination and 1 external examination. Internals were conducted every month. Each internal consists of 25 marks for each subject and out of three internals, one need to have maintain 15 marks at least as an average. Average is calculated on the basis of best 2 internals out of 3. Two lab internals are conducted (Usually for 2 subjects only) in which you need to maintain at least 20 as an average. At the end of each semester, an external examination is conducted of 100 marks, in which one need to have minimum 35 marks to get pass in each subject. Overall, all the examinations conducted in each semester is average and is not at all hectic.

Admission

First I sat for COMEDK examination. After the results came out, there was a counselling session conducted where we had the option to select available seats for any college under Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU). Seat selection was done on Rank basis. So out of all the options available for me I opted for this college and my seat was confirmed. We had to pay half fees of the respective college for first year there itself in form of Demand Draft. After few days, I went to the college which is located in Shivamogga and took admission in the college by paying rest of the fees.

Faculty

3.5

Most of the faculty members taking class in this college are not having good experience. In fact, most of them have engineering degree only, not any professional teaching degree like B.Ed, Very few are there who have a good experience in teaching. Some of them are really good in teaching and their classes are engaging as well. As a lecturer, I think they all are overall good.
