Remarks

The infrastructure could have been a lot better keeping in mind the huge financial support that the college has. More books in the library would also help. But the overall college atmosphere is good. So cheers!

Entrance Preview

To begin with, DCAC comes under the Delhi University. And in order to get admissions into anyone of DU's colleges one does not have to appear any entrance exams. Students are chosen on the first-come-first basis but only if their 12th standard percentage meets the cut off list relesed by the particular college that they are applying for.So to answer the question, I did not take any entrance to get into DCAC but I got it with my 12th marks. History has always facinated me. I love reading and telling stories and most importantly I love knowing facts. Yes, I was one of those during high school who had once said that history is boring and all it does to you is make you feel sleepy. But then during my senior year in school I had a very interesting teacher. He was very passionate about the subject and at the same time had a very good sense of humour. The humour was only during his classes. So he was a very big factor in me taking up this particular course.Well I actally did not choose this college. It was my sister who did it for me. She said its near by from where we stay and therefor its convenient. But to be honest, I am very happy with my college and have no regrets.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

I have always felt tht our batch is the "Experoment" batch. CBSE introduced the CCE system when we were in 10th. Then we were the first batch to come under the 4 year under grad system of the Delhi University. But they scrapped it once we were done with our first year and were back witht the 3 year under grad system again. So in this process there has been a little bit of hopscotch as in towhat will be our exact syllabus. The teachers were also not very clear about the syllabus and how to teach rest assured the students. Also we have had many days gone by without any professor for subject for a couple of months and that is a major set back as to the huge load of syllabus that is to be completed with a limited period of time. Its gets hard for the new teachers but the pressure is more on the students. But to look at the brighter side, we do have a very good faculty for our department. Some of the teachers who have just come in are really hard working and are giving their best. While as the saying goes "Old is gold" is infact true when it cmes to our older faculty members.

Internships Opportunities

As a history student, you do know that there are not much internship oppotunities based on the subject. So that means I have not interned for any company. But leaving aside the subject, I do volunteer for the "Make a Wish" Foundation. Its an NGO that tries and fulfills the wish of children plagued with chronic diseases.

Placement Experience

2

I still haven't finished my third year so there is no talking about placement. And as far as History department is concern, I am not sure if there is any placement for us. But like i said before, outside the subject, we do have coompanies come over for placements. Recently we had the Oberoi Hotel group come over our college. They had guaranteed the selected candidates, chosen through interview, that they would be trained for 2 years in hospitality and then a guaranteed job awaits them after that. Also we do have a placement cell in our college but it comes handy mostly to the Commerce and Economics students.

College Events

4.5

We have two kinds of fest in our college, infact in every DU college. The first ones are a little bit smaller, that is the department fest where each department have been alloted a particular date and they organise the fest. This is done firstly by looking for sponsors and the theme is usually regarding the subject. A lot of food stalls are set up, variety of games and also some talent shows takes place. Each department has a particular name for their fest. Our department's fest is called "Dharohar." The second and the most important is the annual college fest. The proceedings are very similar to the departmental fests but the most seeked forward event during the fest is the closing performance by a celebrity singer. They programme is usually jam packed and the crowd goes crazy as is the trend in Delhi, you play lound music and everyone goes crazy! Most colleges do have passes for the annual fests while some allow students to enter with the college ID cards. Similar to the deparmental fests, the annual fest of each college have a name. DCAC's annual fest is called "Ambrosia."

Fee Structure And Facilities

Our college is a day college and all students are day-scholars. We don't have hostels. But some DU colleges do. As DU falls under the jurisdiction of the central government hostel fees are quite cheap. I have a friend staying at the Stephen's hostel and he pays Rs. 6000 for 6 months. The food in the DU canteens are very cheap, very reasonable for students and is of good quality.

Fees and Financial Aid

So far i have not done much research on the scholarship part. But yes as far as my knowledge is concerned, DU does not offer much bright and flashy scholarships like some other universities. I have not availed for any scholarship or loan so far.

Campus Life

1.5

Life in DU is fun. And it is believed that our college has one of the best crowd in all of DU. Its been almost three years now and i have seen hardly any fights. The gender ratio is very balanced and no discrimination is made on the basis f gender, caste, class or race. We do have a special department incase any such cases gets registered and the action is immediate and harsh. As India is a free country our college do abide and respect the laws. No one gets persecuted on the basis of religion. Infact, such talks does not occur much in our campus. College elections are taken very seriously by the participants and these are the days when you will see new friendships being made and some broken. The candidates take it to their heart. Its a very hot atmosphere during the elections in DU.

Alumni/Alumna

The seniors are very friendly and at the same time very helpful. There is a very healthy interaction between the seniors and the juniors from the very first day of college till the very end.We also do have a good alumni network. Some of them successful alumni do come and visit. We have also had lectures on various subjects by the alumnis.

Course Curriculum Overview:

British classics, Indian writing, postcolonial literature builds a strong foundation in literary analysis, critical thinking, and interpretation, which are useful skills. As for comprehensiveness, the curriculum is quite broad. It covers multiple literary periods, genres, and critical theories over the three years, so you’re not really missing out on the essentials. In that sense, it feels academically complete. But sometimes, it leans more towards breadth over depth you move quickly from one topic to another.

There's a placement cell and placement drives do happen in college but genuinely the package offered is not really considerable. After the 4th semester students are considered to sit in the placement drives though I would say it is not very efficient and fruitful.

Placement Experience:

Placements are available in college, the drive is quite extensive, everyone is made aware of the choices and options and counselling is present too. It is from the third year, students are eligible to apply for placements. Companies and organisations take part such as Niti ayog, Times, Geostrata, Prajatantra foundation, etc. Those who desire usually work on their CVs, keep on doi internships and then get a placement. The packages are not that impressive to be honest.
