What Students Say

- Campus Life and Placement was something I liked about Thapar University. In the last year the faculty is chill about attendance so you can enjoy your time at thapar and roam around patiala. There is a surety of placement what else do you need?
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum is very good. Unlike other courses, CSBS does not have courses like chemistry, and environment which are not necessary for a computer science engineer. There are many languages that will be taught like C, C++, Python, R, and MATLAB. There were 75 students only. In other branches, there were like 250 students in a lecture hall whereas in CSBS there were only 75 in a lecture hall. The faculty was good. Faculty was the same for CSE, COE, and CSBS. The Faculty were all Ph. D.s from IIT and from colleges outside India. The exams are pretty much dependent on your preparation, but I would that I studied it the night before the exam and I got 8 or 9 out of 10. So ya they were quite easy but there is relative marking so watch for those who study all day.
Internships Opportunities
There are many companies that come for internships. Big Companies like Incedo, Microsoft, Amazon, DE Shaw and etc. They all come for different roles like SDE, Data Analyst, and Quality Assurance. Some of them also come for Non-Tech roles like Delloite, ZS, etc.
Placement Experience
There is a very good record of Placements at Thapar, especially talking about the Computer Science streams like CSBS, CSE, and COE. 99 percent of students are placed every year. The Placement Cell is very good. They have some policies like once a student has got an offer for full-time + intern then they can not participate in placement. If a student has only got FTE then they can sit for only intern offering companies, likewise, if a student has got only an intern offer then they can sit for only FTE offering companies.
Fees and Financial Aid
There is a drawback that the fees are really high. 2 Lack rupees for each semester. After adding all 8 semesters including the hostel and mess fees it will cost around 20 Lacks. There are a lot of Campus Opportunities. Companies like Microsoft, Amazon, Incedo, Samsung, Facebook, and Flipkart come every year. Adding to that there is a 99% chance that every student will get placement in some company.
Campus Life
Life at Thapar is the best out of all. There are many playgrounds for sport-loving people. There is a 6-floor building dedicated to a library. The library is full of books and desktops where students can come and read with a very fast internet connection. There are many places to roam around and eat like there is a COS market where a person can come and eat and socialize with other people. The hostels are very good. There are options for a double seater and a single seater. During my time in a double seater, we used to be 4 friends living together. Hostels for boys and girls are separate. There also an option with AC and without AC.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel facility is good. Whenever you are in need of something just contact the designated caretaker he will solve your problem. There are different caretakers. One is a day caretaker and the other is a night caretaker.
Admission
The admission process was smooth. There were two criteria for getting admission to the college. One was through JEE mains and the other was boards or ICSE examination or any state board examination that the student undertook in their senior secondary school. There were 3 rounds of cut-off. Particularly for my course that was Computer Science and Business Systems the last eligible cut-off was 95 percentile in JEE Mains or 95 percent in boards. There were about 75 students in my batch. Computer Science and Business Systems was a course introduced by TCS in our college. There were about 1200 Computer Science students in Thapar including all Computer Science streams that were:- COE, CSE, and CSBS.
