Remarks

Admission process is quite streamline. you can find admission form on the Thapar official website. Students can take admission on the basis of Board percentage and JEE Mains percentile. As per last year cut off for computer engineering by board percentage was around 96% and for jee mains 97 percentile. Thapar also has a branch upgradation test through which you can take admission in semester 2 if you passed the criteria. Though campus is quite large students intake have risen a lot which might reflect badly 50% Punjab reservation is also the reason for decrease in student quality and focused more on quantity.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

Computer Engineering is one of the most popular and oldest branch in Thapar. Computer engineering Infact is the most prominent branch that almost any student who loves to code and understand technology will opt for. In Thapar Student faculty ratio is decent when it comes to lecture classes it 1:150 but we have separate tutorial and lab classes that have 1:30 ratio. We also have mentor that guides us in our academic curriculum. All faculties have hons doctorate in respective fields and are decent. Exams are conducted every two month and it is easy to pass if you study well tutorial sheets and LMS helps student a lot during exams

Internships Opportunities

3.5

Both tech and non tech related roles are offered and the stipend is above 50k.Companies that come for internship are JP Morgan , Focus Energy , Cisco, Axis bank. We have done robotic arm web dev projects to clarify tasks which helps us in winning hackathons and other events conducted worldwide

Placement Experience

4.5

Students start getting internship from 5th semester. Thapar provides two type of internship one is summer internship that starts from July second is 6 months internship that starts from 8th semester. Average internship package is good and can go around 50k monthly. placement offer for computer engineering is 10 lac average. Over 90% people who apply for internship are placed. After completion of degree my plans are to apply for job and gain some experience then apply for master overseas.

Fees and Financial Aid

Fees is very high in Thapar and every semester we have an fees increment is about 10k so in total you might spend about 25lacs in your four year Btech/BE. Thapar also provide two types of scholar one is on the basis of your JEE percentile and cgpa. second way is financial assistance to EWS.

Campus Life

4

We have saturnalia our biggest fest conducted here on Thapar. Other than that we also have many events conducted by societies. Tech societies conduct hackathons and CTF events. Thapar has a huge library that is open till 9pm and you can any issue any book for a month. Every year Thapar also conducts a sports event called Thaparlympics that includes sports events of cricket football basketball swimming table tennis and much more. Each hostel also conduct their own personal extra curricular event every semester. Thapar also has many clubs that are both tech and non tech related CCS MLSC GDSC Mudra Astronomy club to name a few

Hostel Facilities

3.5

Thapar has well constructed hostels rooms are spacious, guards are always outside for security. Meals are decent we are also provided with night mess that is charged separately though students can also order through swiggy. We have over 7 hostels for boys and 5 hostels for girls though they are costly but given with the infrastructure provided its pretty much worth it.

NITJ has a placement cell, also known as the Centre of Training and Placements(TPO office of NITJ). The placement scenes differ depending on the courses offered. The average placements are 12-14LPA in the Computer Science branch. Every year, hundreds of companies, including Pvt and govt both. PSUs like HPCL and BPCL recruit students based on merit and academic excellence.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I’d rate the curriculum like 7/10 in terms of relevance and comprehensiveness — it covers all the major CSE subjects like DSA, OS, DBMS, CN, AI, ML, Cloud, Cybersecurity basics, etc., and honestly that was one of the reasons I chose this course because at least the core subjects are solid even if PTU keeps some old-school stuff in the syllabus. The curriculum does prepare you for real-world stuff, but only to a point — like, if you focus on coding labs and projects you’ll be fine for internships, but if you depend only on classroom theory then it won’t help much because industry wants hands-on skills. For higher studies also it’s okay because theory depth in subjects like OS and DBMS is decent enough. But yeah, improvements are definitely needed — some subjects feel outdated, teachers should use more practical examples, and we need more real projects instead of copy-paste lab manuals; also some faculty teach directly from slides which gets boring fast. Exams come twice per semester (sessionals) plus the final end-sem around December/May; they’re mostly easy if you write long answers, but tricky if you rely only on understanding because PTU likes theory-heavy questions. Overall, the system works, but it could be way more practical and industry-focused.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The interest in coding influenced me to choose this subject and course. The curriculum gets me ready for a 9-5 job which kind of gets hectic. The teachers could maybe schedule classes to give the students time to study what they want to and if they wish to do a course outside the university they have the time to do so rather than just going by the university curriculum
