Remarks

The management is done very well, but I feel the faculty is too rigid and strict. Students should be encouraged to experiment more and question more. The college does not give the student a sense of freedom, but on the other hand, you will be surrounded by very good students and there will be a lot of healthy competition and goal oriented people around you, which can help you become more focused and spurn you on to better things.

Entrance Preview

No entrance examination. Selection is only based on marks from Class XII Board exams(Best of 4 including English)

Course Curriculum Overview

4

The course is decently set. As the college is autonomous it does not follow Calcutta University. There are a wide array of subjects However, there is very limited scope for research or doing anything new. You are confined to the knowledge contained in the books.

Internships Opportunities

The college does not provide internship. However every student is expected to do a one month internship in the third year. If the student is unable to find an internship, the professors may help them out by trying to find one.

Placement Experience

3.5

The placement and job opportunities is good. However because of the large number of students the number of jobs per student ratio was very poor. Companies like Zomato, Google do come to the campus and the offer was about Rs. 4-5 lacs in average for the jobs available.

College Events

4

A lot of events are organised throughout the year from Xavotsav, Insignia, etc. There are a lot of active groups and the events are usually pretty big, with industry stalwarts who have been ex-students coming as attendees or guests. It will be a good experience for co-curriculars.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is reasonable for the student in B.Com Hons. morning batch. It cost about Rs. 15000 a year. The fees for the other courses are higher, even the B.Com Evening batch is twice the fees. However, it is much cheaper than other private colleges in the city.

Fees and Financial Aid

I have not availed any loan while I was there. However the college is extremely difficult to get a scholarship from. It is only offered to exceptional students.

Campus Life

2.5

Since I was in the Xaviers B.com Morning department, there were only guys in my batch. The gender ratio in general is skewed towards the guys. There are events like inter course cricket tournaments, TT, football, etc as activities which people participate in. There is very little political involvement in the college.

Hostel Facilities

2.5

Since I was not in the hostel, I will be unable to provide this detail. From what I know, the hostel was average and is located right next to the college itself. The hostel people usually gel very well with each other and are happy with the facilities provided there.

Alumni/Alumna

The Alumni network of Xaviers is extremely active and helpful. They do events on an extremely frequent basis and many of them being successful entrepreneurs, these events are usually covered in the press as well.

Exam Structure

There are weekly exams on every Saturday throughout the year. Plus two semesters a year. There is a lot of focus on academics in St. Xaviers. On Saturdays, when there are no exams, there are usually seminars, when you will have to make a group presentation on a given topic.

Faculty

2

The faculty is usually highly qualified but not very approachable. Some professors are extremely qualified, but poor communicators and that makes the learning experience a difficult one. Also, questioning the teacher or their methods is discouraged, which leads to an unfriendly feeling between the student and the faculty.

I always want to build my career in commerce and my aim is to be a chartered accountant. So I took this course because the syllabus of CA and B.com is the same. our college faculties are so helpful. They always come forward to resolve our academic and nonacademic doubts. Their teaching methods are also good. we don't need to purchase any book, their notes are enough for our syllabus.
