Remarks

Admission was merit-based, on the basis of JEE Mains percentile. My JEE Mains percentile was 90.92 and I got admission in the computer engineering branch. We had to fill the counselling form in April and after few days the results were announced. The application form is available on the Institute website and the deadline to fill it was 30th April, 2019. To be honest, I don't remember the exact fees of the application form.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

I took the computer engineering branch because it was in demand. In lectures, there are 200 students in one class and in lab we have 25-30 students. Most of the teachers are Ph.D and have a good experience in teaching. We have two terms exams. One in September/March and the other in May/December depending upon whether it is even or odd semester. The mid-terms exams used to be relatively easier than the end-term exams. Anyone who has been regular in studies and has attended the classes regularly can easily pass the exams.

Internships Opportunities

3.5

The internships are provided to students starting from the 5th semester. Many good companies visit the campus to provide internships. The roles they look for include software developer, frontend/backend developer, data analyst, etc.

Placement Experience

3.5

The placements of our college are quite descent. Students from final year ,i.e., 7th and 8th semester become eligible for placements. The avergae package is around 7-8 lakhs and the highest package can go far as 40 lakhs per annum. I am also planning to sit in the placements after i get into the final year.

Fees and Financial Aid

The total tution fees are 200800/- and is incremented by 10 percent every year. Scholarships are also provided to students who have secured good percentile in JEE Mains. The on-campus placements are quite descent.

Campus Life

4.5

The campus life is pretty good. There are a lot of events happening the college every day. The college library is quite huge with lot of books and air-condtioned enviroment. The classrooms and lecture halls are very big with proper lighting and AC. The sports grounds are also very well maintained where one can play cricket, basketball, football, tennis, badminton, volleyball etc. The hostels are also very well maintained with AC rooms.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

The hostel life is very good. The hostel is air-conditioned with attached washrooms. The meal provided in the mess is of good quality with a lot of variety. We also facilities like TV room, table tennis hall, common room, etc in the hostels. The registration is done on a merit basis.

Placement Experience:

NITJ has a placement cell, also known as the Centre of Training and Placements(TPO office of NITJ). The placement scenes differ depending on the courses offered. The average placements are 12-14LPA in the Computer Science branch. Every year, hundreds of companies, including Pvt and govt both. PSUs like HPCL and BPCL recruit students based on merit and academic excellence.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I’d rate the curriculum like 7/10 in terms of relevance and comprehensiveness — it covers all the major CSE subjects like DSA, OS, DBMS, CN, AI, ML, Cloud, Cybersecurity basics, etc., and honestly that was one of the reasons I chose this course because at least the core subjects are solid even if PTU keeps some old-school stuff in the syllabus. The curriculum does prepare you for real-world stuff, but only to a point — like, if you focus on coding labs and projects you’ll be fine for internships, but if you depend only on classroom theory then it won’t help much because industry wants hands-on skills. For higher studies also it’s okay because theory depth in subjects like OS and DBMS is decent enough. But yeah, improvements are definitely needed — some subjects feel outdated, teachers should use more practical examples, and we need more real projects instead of copy-paste lab manuals; also some faculty teach directly from slides which gets boring fast. Exams come twice per semester (sessionals) plus the final end-sem around December/May; they’re mostly easy if you write long answers, but tricky if you rely only on understanding because PTU likes theory-heavy questions. Overall, the system works, but it could be way more practical and industry-focused.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The interest in coding influenced me to choose this subject and course. The curriculum gets me ready for a 9-5 job which kind of gets hectic. The teachers could maybe schedule classes to give the students time to study what they want to and if they wish to do a course outside the university they have the time to do so rather than just going by the university curriculum
