Remarks
Our counselling was conducted by WBJEEB, there were 3 rounds. I had applied for Jadavpur University all the BE courses and Kalyani Government Engineering College as extra as you need to fill at least 20 choices. I had the domicile so I consider myself fortunate for it. To avail of domicile either you should do your schooling from West Bengal (this is called proforma A) or your parents must be residing in West Bengal for at least 12 years (proforma B). For admission, the minimum mark required in class 12 is 65% for the general category. I got BE Civil in Jadavpur in the 1st round and after getting it you need to pay a seat acceptance fee of Rs 5000 to confirm it. Next, there were 2 options - freeze seat and no upgradation or apply for upgradation. After all 3 rounds, we received the roll sheet from the university via mail. We were supposed to visit the college for physical verification in the 1st semester and the document verification process was conducted in a very smooth and professional manner.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is according to the latest industry requirement. I chose this course as it is highly demanding these days and has a bright future ahead. The faculty to student ratio is around 1:14. The faculty of IEE in JU is very experienced, they have done their Masters and PHDs from IIT Kgp, IISc, and JU itself. They are well versed with their subjects in Research as well as Knowledge. There were 2 class tests and an End semester exam. Few were easy but few were difficult to pass. We also had our lab classes and viva. Even in online semesters, we were provided with simulation softwares to perform the experiments in a Virtual Lab.
Internships Opportunities
Many IT companies visit our campus for internships such as Amazon, Wells Fargo, Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs for SDE profiles. Besides this, in the core sector also many companies visit our campus such as Texas Instruments and Samsung to hire analogue and digital Engineers. Many companies provide analyst and consulting roles such as Delloite, PWC, KPMG etc.
Placement Experience
The average package of JU this year is 11 LPA which is at par with all NITs and a few IITs. All the big tech giants which visit NITs and IITs also come here such as Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Atlassian, DE Shaw, Goldman Sachs etc. Besides software companies, the placement in core sector is also excellent as lot of PSUs visit our campus every year to recruit students such as GAIL, IOCL, Texas Instruments, Bharat Petroleum etc. Many analytics and consulting profile companies also visit such as Delloite, PWC, KPMG, ZS Associates etc. The highest package offered was 58 LPA to 3 students in software profile. The placement percentage is around 90% and in CSE and IT it is 99%. After the degree my plan is to work in a PSU.
Fees and Financial Aid
The course fee is minimal of just Rs 2500/year as it is subsidised by the West Bengal Govt. which makes it the least expensive college in India. Besides its low fees, the college also provides ample opportunities for scholarships for needy students. In terms of Return on Investment, it even beats a few IITs.
Campus Life
The annual fest is Sanskriti which is one of the best college fests across West Bengal and students from other colleges also visit to enjoy the fest. There is also a fresher organised by the seniors called CIIPPUS for the juniors. There are 2 libraries on both the campuses respectively. There are ample amounts of books and journals to fill the knowledge in the curious mind. Even if there is the requirement of any book then the library provides it in a nick of time. The classrooms are spacious and not at all crowded. There are monthly sports challenges for students both outdoor and indoor. There are interdepartmental sports matches also followed by an Annual Sports meet. There are a lot of clubs that are run by students - IEEE, E Cell, JUSC, Mountaineering Club to name a few. Students gain a lot of skills and exposure from participating in these clubs.
