Remarks

So after Clearing Jee Mains, my first option was to go to Thapar and I was lucky enough to get it. The admission process was quite easy. At first one needs to fill an online application which costs around Rs1500. In the application form, one needs to provide the choice of branches and after the application process is completed if you have cleared the minimum cut-off of the branch, the branch gets allotted to you. There are around 4 more counseling sessions in which your allotted branch may get updated. As far as the quota for admission is concerned, for the students who have completed their education from Punjab their cut-off for branches is much lower. The admission process is quite smooth with the final round of counseling taking place at Thapar.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

As far as the course curriculum is concerned for electrical the course has now become slightly outdated. As far as the faculty-student ratio is concerned around 23 to 24 students are assigned to a single faculty member. Most of the faculty members have Ph.D.'s in the respective subjects that they teach. Teaching Method depends upon faculty you get some of them are excellent while some are average. Exams are conducted usually during September and the paper that is set up totally depends upon the faculty member who is setting them up.

Internships Opportunities

5

Companies such as Jp Morgan and Chase, Samsung, American Express offer internship opportunities with a monthly stipend of around 44 thousand and a chance of turning internships into full time. There is also a provision if a student wants to work under a faculty member on some project and if the project is a unique idea one can also become an entrepreneur and Thapar provides help with that too.

Placement Experience

5

So basically when the student enters 4th Year he/she becomes eligible for placement. Around 200 plus companies visit the campus ranging from Jp morgan to the big four. The highest package goes around 50 lac offered by Microsoft while the average package is around 7 lac. The percentage of students getting placed depends upon the branch but usually, around 75% get placed.

Fees and Financial Aid

As far as Thapar is concerned the fees are on the higher side and around 10% increment is there in academic as well as Hostel fees. Scholarships are also present there and the top 10% percent of the student from each branch get their academic fees returned. As far as placement is concerned average package of the electrical branches is around 6.8 lac.

Campus Life

5

Life at Thapar is a beautiful story. Regular Fest Keep on happening and the annual fest is the saturnalia. Thapar library which is Nava Nalanda is world-class. One can find books of each and every genre in it. As far as Classroom is concerned mostly all of them has a projector and some of them are air-conditioned. The newly built classroom are world-class. As far as sports are concerned Thapar has an indoor badminton court, has a basketball court, a volleyball court, a separate football ground, and table tennis, as well as a chessboard, which are present each and every.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

The hostels are nice and the memories that you make in them are even more precious. During the first year, one usually gets a non-ac hostel and from the second year onward you have the option between non-ac and ac as well as between single room and sharing. The meals provided by Sodexo are not that good while hostel J has the best Mess. Several restaurants are present on the campus so food would not be an issue. Registration for hostels is done in first come first basics. Several PGs are also present near the campus mostly toward the hostel M gate.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I’d rate the curriculum like 7/10 in terms of relevance and comprehensiveness — it covers all the major CSE subjects like DSA, OS, DBMS, CN, AI, ML, Cloud, Cybersecurity basics, etc., and honestly that was one of the reasons I chose this course because at least the core subjects are solid even if PTU keeps some old-school stuff in the syllabus. The curriculum does prepare you for real-world stuff, but only to a point — like, if you focus on coding labs and projects you’ll be fine for internships, but if you depend only on classroom theory then it won’t help much because industry wants hands-on skills. For higher studies also it’s okay because theory depth in subjects like OS and DBMS is decent enough. But yeah, improvements are definitely needed — some subjects feel outdated, teachers should use more practical examples, and we need more real projects instead of copy-paste lab manuals; also some faculty teach directly from slides which gets boring fast. Exams come twice per semester (sessionals) plus the final end-sem around December/May; they’re mostly easy if you write long answers, but tricky if you rely only on understanding because PTU likes theory-heavy questions. Overall, the system works, but it could be way more practical and industry-focused.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The interest in coding influenced me to choose this subject and course. The curriculum gets me ready for a 9-5 job which kind of gets hectic. The teachers could maybe schedule classes to give the students time to study what they want to and if they wish to do a course outside the university they have the time to do so rather than just going by the university curriculum
