To get into this college I appeared for SAT and My core was 1960/2400. In this particular score this was the best college I could get with the best branch.

Course Curriculum Overview

3

Our course curriculum is very vast. In first year we read the basic subjects of all branches of Engineering and Humanities. The specialization begins from second year. We have some core subjects some semi-core subjects, for example, I am in the department of Electronics & Communication Engineering.

Internships Opportunities

Yes, NIT Silchar provides internship during summer. The interns are not given any stipend except a minor book allowance may be but they are given hostel with 24x7 internet facility and electricity. Most internship are project based or they have research profile. The teachers who mentor for internship are mostly professors of 10+year experience. So doing internship under their tutelage is a blessing for all.

Placement Experience

4

The training and placement cell of the college is very active. Throughout the year we have companies coming in for placements and all. For last two years the placement of Computer Science & Engineering and Electronics & Communication Engineering is near one hundred percent and for other branches most people don't go into core sector but end up in IT with an average salary of 3-4 LPA.

Fees and Financial Aid

There are some student who enjoy the benefits of scholarships inducted by the government. For example for people of North East there are scholarship, so are for Dalits and all. Based on the performances we are given scholarships in internships like SN Bose Scholarship and IAS scholarships.

Campus Life

4.5

NIT Silchar faces a huge disparity in gender ratios with boys making up almost 90% of the total enrolled students. There is a huge diversity of ethnicity in the college with students belonging to every corner of country and few other parts of the world. This gives us the opportunity of attending so many festivals and celebrations.

Hostel Facilities

4

There are 8 boys hostels and 9 girls hostels in NIT silchar for B.Tech students. First year and third year boys get a choice of single rooms or sharing rooms with up to 2 room mates. Second year boys get sharing rooms and Final year students get single rooms by default. The quality of accommodation can be deemed as above average with spacious rooms, well equipped bathrooms and mess halls.

Alumni/Alumna

We have a Alumni Cell and a department of Alumni Affairs too. Every year we have an Alumni Meet where alumni of different years are invited and they give presentation and all and interact with students and faculties. The Alumni network deals with keeping good relations with past students and this helps in the recruitment as well sometimes.

Exam Structure

Per semester there are two main exams, The Mid-Semester exam and End-Semester exam. The Mid-Sem are of 30 marks per subjects nd End-Sems are of 50 marks. There is an 20 marks internal which is given based on the classroom performance of the students like attendence, quizes and projects etc.

Admission

There was first an online counselling on which we were asked to mark the colleges we want to apply in and the administrative board of NIT Autonomous council gives us the options based on our SAT score, I entered this college through DASA and the selection of the college was done based on SAT score.

Faculty

3

Most faculties are supportive in nature. The younger teachers are quite friendly with us. Not only they support us in subjects but also time to time motivate us to focus on side curriculum like projects and all. The PhD scholars who are responsible to take tutorial classes and provide teaching assistance in labs are very young, passionate and full of fire.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not really good in our college, it is more of a research institute so it mainly focuses on PhD as PhD strength is good. Higher education is more prefered here but placement scenario is also good

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is very relevant and is different for different branches according to their needs. I was interested in civil engineering and chose the course and find the curriculum intersting and relevant for me . The curriculum offers subject which are important for real world applications, like in civil engineering it's offers subjects like building construction, solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, material testing, serving, etc. The course curriculum is very good but the teaching methods needs improvement like more digitalization . The exams frequency and timings are neither too late nor too early, they are perfectly planned and executed.

Course Curriculum Overview:

There exists a good teaching staff that's why the course is very easy to understand also teachers give us good examples also do practicals so that's students understand the course easily . I see that there exist a low no of equipments in practical lab compare to it's students ratio so if they have a good no of equipments then all students get equipment to do experiment without any waste of time . Time is good as compare to marks and the first 30 marks are beginner level the other 40 marks are intermediate level and the remaining 30 Marks are advanced level questions in a question paper for the students they published.

I choosed because my CEE marks which was 92 at that time was not enough to get admission in govt engineering colleges and the OBC cut off was 120+. So, in Whole northeast Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Management and Technology is the no 1 and the oldest private engineering college and I decided to take admission there.

Placement Experience:

The placement scenario is quite good, with several reputed companies like General Electric, Power Grid Corporation of India, Goldman Sachs, among others recruiting 94 percent of the students in the college. The placement takes place in three rounds, one testing one's aptitude, followed by an hour round, finally leading on to a technical round. Mock interview and job cracking sessions are organized regularly, both by the departments, and also the Training and Placement Cell, to prepare students for the interviews and examinations going forward. The Training and Placement Cell also provides internship opportunities at the end of third year for the students, based on their aptitude and abilities

Remarks:

I have mostly positive remarks about college except for the fact that the college is situated really far from mainstream north India. Train connectivity is not that strong to rest of country. But despite that the college is extremely good in the sense of learning, meeting new innovative minds, and of course placements and jobs.
