Remarks

Kamala Nehru College is amongst the top ten colleges of Delhi University for B.A. (Hons) English and hence it was always amongst my top five choices. I enrolled in KNC in 2016 after the sixth admission list was released by the university. The admission process was very smooth and the admin staff was very helpful and in fact, remained helpful throughout my whole course. I took admission under the OBC quota as I fall under the OBC non-creamy layer category for which I presented a verified caste certificate granted by the state government of Delhi. To take admission in B. A (Hons) English, the criteria stands that a student must have more than 60% marks in class 12th boards and have English as a core subject. Like all other Colleges of Delhi University, a percentage of the best four subjects are calculated. There was no counseling, if you make it to the cut-off you could get your documents verified and take admission.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

I had always been a literature enthusiast and thus this course was my top choice. English Department in Kamala Nehru College is one of the best departments of Delhi University with excellent teachers who know very well how to stir up an intellectual discussion and open their students' minds to critical thinking and interpretation. There are around 12-15 faculty members sufficient for the three batches of the course. All teachers are highly qualified researchers and have published and presented papers both in Indian as well as International Universities. The teaching style is student-centered and sometimes presentation-based. We were required to submit two term papers for each text we read and had regular short assignments or open-book exams. End-semester exams were not very difficult if you had prepared well and that just not means mugging up everything. The evaluation was done on the basis of how much students can expand their critical thinking.

Internships Opportunities

2.5

There are no internships that are offered directly by the college. However, because of the vast network of student societies, many opportunities become available for students who can grab them during their semester vacations. For freshers, most internships include digital marketing and management but are mostly unpaid. During my course, I did an unpaid internship with Smile Foundation India wherein I taught unprivileged children during their Summer Vacations.

Placement Experience

3

Students become eligible for campus placements from their fifth semester or final year of their course. Top companies like Wipro, KPMG, EY visit for campus placements, and offers vary from course to course. After my bachelor's, I planned to continue my studies and took admission in M.A English and thus I did not sit for the placements.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fee structure is very reasonable and affordable. Fees differed from course to course and for B. A (Hons) English it was around 8000-10,000 Rs per year. There are several scholarship options available for students from low-income groups and quotas however there are no campus jobs available. The college has a well-functioning placement cell that facilitates interactions of students with possible employers.

Campus Life

5

Kamala Nehru College has one of the best campuses in the University, running along the Siri fort wall it is home to a variety of bird species. The college has a famous Chaupal or open-air theatre shadowed with big trees which makes it an excellent spot for theatrical events. The theatre society hosts their annual fest Concoction every year in Chaupal which is a top highlight of the place. The college annual fest Ullas is a two-day vibrant festival that hosts various competitions and celebrity performances and concerts at night. The atmosphere is thrilling and fun and also safe. The college has over 20 societies that cater to the interests and passions of all students. Apart from all the departmental societies they also have fashion society Glitz, Theatre Society Lakhya, Western dance society Enigma, Enactus, and others which have made a name for themselves in the Intercollege competitions.

Average and Median packages are between 8 and 10 lakh per annum, with highest packages going up to 25 lakhs. Many also go for postgraduate education, such as MBA after CAT, or to reputed colleges like the DSE for MA.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Too vague to understand, feels extra burden of unnecessary irrelevant topics , extra papers like SEC/VAC simply add to the burden while barely providing with any skills and values as their name suggests . Studying them and preparing for exams add extra stress and unnecessary burden on them , diverting their focus from their core papers , which are already too huge and they study materials or readings simply fail to assist . Areas for improvement would be - proper structured study materials , also proper structured practical subjects / papers for students where they can actually learn or gain knowledge/skills which will be advantageous in their future .

I would say the placement opportunities are more available for science , commerce background students in the college there are rarely any placement opportunities for humanities background students . Mostly students starts engaging in placement in the fifth semester .severky companies visited campus every year including Deloitte , EY.TCS etc . Around 40 - 50 percent students from professional courses get the placement annually .even for the students not opting for placement the exposure n the strong alumni network of college help them secure good opportunities outside campus
