Mohit Gupta's Review On Thapar Institute Of Engineering And Technology - [Thapar University], Patiala

AIEE, IIT JEE, BITSAT. I scored 194 in AIEEE, I was ranked 7200 in IIT JEE and I scored 305 in BITSAT. I chose Thapar University because its mechanical engineering program is renowned. It is there since 1956. The labs are like museums, professors are well established and it is a very disciplined school as compared to the schools in the near vicinity or even in the northern region.

I could see the curriculum online on the website. There is generally a set curriculum of courses and trainings in the mechanical engineering program approved by UGC. There are hardly any flexibilities except for the two electives. One in third year and one in fourth year. I believe that those electives too aren't of much help. So, there isn't much flexibility in the course structure.

For all the renowned branches of engineering, there is absolutely no problem with placements and job opportunities. There are many companies out there who wish to recruit from thapar university because of the inherent teachings and course curriculum. Thapar university of very old and established institution. There are alumni who are in every part of the world and they come back.

There are many events. Tech fest, cultural fest, literature, dance etc etc. Every day there would be some event or the other in which you can participate, enjoy, learn, show your skills and be happy and wait for more events. You can also build your own club if you wish to do something different and interesting. Involvement is the key here and you can involve as many students as you can. It is indeed an enjoyable event.

It is rigid. It is expensive but there are scholarships which you can use to cover your tuition fee. There are two ways CBSE examination marks. Ranks in the respective disciplines of engineering. Rank 1, 2, 3 offer full, half and one-fourth tuition fee waivers respectively.

My hostel was the best at thapar and probably the best in India. I paid huge price for the rent. It was 40k for 6 months. But it was comfortable to live there. Single room, awesome food at a cost of 2000 INR mess bill for a month. It was so awesome that I gained 10 pounds in six months. And then I tried to cut down and burn calories by running.

Thapar university of very old and established institution. There are alumni who are in every part of the world and they come back. They come back to help. They are present in every company and every organisation. We just need to try to reach them and ask them for help.

Exams, assignments, labs and experiments are part and parcel of engineering degree. A common day used to be like you have numerous assignments from different courses. There used to be mid semester exams. 6 days 6 exams. Similar for end semester exams. 10 days 6 exams. It becomes very hectic because there is no free time from classes.

Faculty is good. I would say some are really nice and qualified professors. Some of them are really great teachers and some of them are considerate. Some of them are really good at research and on the other hand, there are a few which are not great as teachers.
