Remarks
Every student is doubtful when they first come to the college. Its a one building structure and very disappointing, just not what we see in movies. The first year goes by almost uneventfully to reduce chances of ragging and not provoke the excited senior folks. The next 3 years are a whole different story. There is just not enough time to do everything. From helping out seniors in organizing programmes to mentoring juniors, to exams the 4th year mostly dedicated to placements, every other week will have a company visiting the campus , some weeks have upto 4 companies coming over. Its a surreal ride, and definitely worth the experience.
Entrance Preview
KEAM - Kerala Entrance Rank - 3738 ECE was my choice of stream and MEC has a very good placement record. It is arguably the best college in Kerala, competing head to head with CET. There is no real reason why I wouldn't opt for the best college in the state.
Course Curriculum Overview
I studied under the CUSAT syllabus which is known to be really tough to crack. It has its share of weak points, but the syllabus cannot be blamed. The professors are all well knowledgeable and help you out if you need it. You need to let them know you need their help. There is very little spoon-feeding and is a COLLEGE (Not a school like many other institutions).
Internships Opportunities
Yes, they have internships. It used to be 2-3 months internship with stipend ranging from none at all - 25k per month. Its all different now that the University has changed. Bosch, Biosense, BPCL, GE Healthcare.
Placement Experience
AWESOME 70+ of the batch is always placed, depending on market trend sometimes even above 90. And this is the whole batch (not eligible or 60% aggregate marks). I got placed at TCS and GES Infotek. Chose GES because of its domain (Automation, embedded systems).
College Events
Excel - the techno-managerial fest technopreneur - Technical entrepreneur symposium Sociopreneur - part of technopreneur where teams get to present their technical ideas that can bring about an impact socially. Illuminati - Inter college quiz TEDx - Independent TED event Arts & Sports - Intra college Placements - Student body that conducts all placement related activities.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Merit seats used to be 25k per year management - 50k NRI - 1 lakh not sure how it is now.
Fees and Financial Aid
There is XSA scholarship by the Alumni. 4-6 students in a batch are selected based on merit and need for the scholarship.
Campus Life
Campus life is amazing. There is a lot of interaction between the different batches and branches. A lot of alumni relations as well extra-curricular are always happening, technical and non-technical. Gender diversity would be about 50-50 on an average. Electronics and Biomedical usually have a higher girl to boy ratio. There is no politics and a senate body by the students represent and take care of all issues related to the student body.
Hostel Facilities
Men's hostel available food is good 2 students per room common bath and toilets, badminton court, gym, recreation rooom avg rent (food inclusive) -Rs. 1500-2000 many ladies hostels available around the college vicinity. Not sure about the facilities. Varies from place to place.
Alumni/Alumna
Very helpful, very connected. One of the reasons for the amazing placements every event is mentored by the previous batches and also have alumni overlook its functioning.
Exam Structure
There were two series exams and a university exam every semester. It wasn't hectic or chilled out somewhere in between.
Faculty
The faculty are competent though I hear there are many more Guest lecturers now. If you spend enough time,, you will get help from the more experienced faculty.
