Remarks

1. Brand name of Thapar in National Level.2. Being considered in tier 1.5 colleges in India3. Great Faculty, i know this will as i did spoke with some professors at IIT Kanpur who recommended Thapar for its great faculty support. Almost all of the teachers have doctorates from IITs and foreign universities.4. High average placement statistic, with MNCs coming even Apple.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The course curriculum is quite great. Its integrated with the foreign universities. Moreover the curriculum is updated every 2years by the board. The Academics at TIET is quite diverse. The societies play a very important role in that. We have more than 90+ societies.First years have common subjects.Exams is all round the year: Sessionals, MST(Middle Semester Test), EST(End Semester Test) + assignments + viva. Most of the faculty members are phd holders. I chose COE(Computer Engineering) which the oldest and the most famous branch at Thapar.

Internships Opportunities

Yes, At TuteDude as a Digital and Sales Marketing, Student Ambassador for one month. Got around 1000.Being a first year this was the only internship i have done for now.

Placement Experience

4.5

Placements in most of the branches are quite decent. Computer Branches has the highest placements. Last year 6-7 students bagged a package of 44lpa from Microsoft. This year 2 seniors got internship as SDE at Google. Adobe,Amazon, Goldmann Sachs, JpMorgan, Cisco, Google, Apple, Tata, ONGC, Reliance are some of the companies which visits the campus both for placements and internships. In core branches 90% of the students gets placed.I would most probably be going for higher studies.

College Events

Seniors are pretty awesome out here. Every other day there's some event going out here at Thapar.Due to soo many societies of diverse fields many of of the students are busy all day managing or organizing something or the other.Social life is quite good. As i have heard people with friends go out to trips out from Patiala. Even the Adventure club helps in that.Having a strong Alumni Base even some alumni in NASA, the astronomy society conducts field trips.Currently with tie-up with ISRO some students at Thapar with professors are making a satellite which will launched in Patiala this year. Quite a great achievement.

Campus Life

5

Specialized well equipped laboratories, 20+ sports facilities. Keeping in mind environmental rule Thapar has Biocomposting and vermicompost unit, commercial production of mushrooms, biogas plant and polyhouse for mass production of the blue green algal biofertilizer. Well equipped computer labs. The biggest library in the city, Nalanda Central Library with millions of bookd and journals. It also have tie up with foreign publications and journals.Wifi is available all around the campus. Speed are high in the lounge and labs.

Hostel Facilities

4

Due to Covid have been in Online Classes for now. Being a first year I Havent been yet allotted any hostels as yet. As far as I have heard from the seniors all the hostels are good but some are like Hotels with all sort of facilities. From 24x7 mess to indoor games room. Also it has ACs and mini libraries. Some even have TV, Reading rooms.

We were offered placement assistance as it was an online program and i really think it is a good initiative because college are least bothered for placements for their online programs. As i had to pursue a career in marketing i started doing projects and internships in marketing and sales domain.

NITJ has a placement cell, also known as the Centre of Training and Placements(TPO office of NITJ). The placement scenes differ depending on the courses offered. The average placements are 12-14LPA in the Computer Science branch. Every year, hundreds of companies, including Pvt and govt both. PSUs like HPCL and BPCL recruit students based on merit and academic excellence.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I’d rate the curriculum like 7/10 in terms of relevance and comprehensiveness — it covers all the major CSE subjects like DSA, OS, DBMS, CN, AI, ML, Cloud, Cybersecurity basics, etc., and honestly that was one of the reasons I chose this course because at least the core subjects are solid even if PTU keeps some old-school stuff in the syllabus. The curriculum does prepare you for real-world stuff, but only to a point — like, if you focus on coding labs and projects you’ll be fine for internships, but if you depend only on classroom theory then it won’t help much because industry wants hands-on skills. For higher studies also it’s okay because theory depth in subjects like OS and DBMS is decent enough. But yeah, improvements are definitely needed — some subjects feel outdated, teachers should use more practical examples, and we need more real projects instead of copy-paste lab manuals; also some faculty teach directly from slides which gets boring fast. Exams come twice per semester (sessionals) plus the final end-sem around December/May; they’re mostly easy if you write long answers, but tricky if you rely only on understanding because PTU likes theory-heavy questions. Overall, the system works, but it could be way more practical and industry-focused.
