OVERALL REVIEW OF MY COLLEGE

IEM Kolkata is one of the best engineering colleges in West Bengal. The college is known for its campus placements and level of education. Apart from the core subjects, they teach other courses as well such as logical reasoning, a quantitative aptitude which is required for cracking competitive exams after graduation. The teachers are highly qualified and extremely helpful. But if you talk about the campus, it is not as big as the other colleges. The college is also very strict in terms of discipline, which I feel is required for engineering students. Students need to secure a high rank in WBJEE to get admission to this college. Besides, students can also get admitted to this college via JEE Mains and few seats are also reserved through management quota.

I've chosen Electronics & Communication Engineering because from childhood I had a passion for electronics. I always dreamt of making something that would help society. I am highly grateful to my college for helping me realize my dream. The faculty-student ratio according to recent data of 2020 is that 1:20. All the faculty members are highly qualified (most of them have done their PhD). Due to the ongoing pandemic, classes are being conducted in an online mode. In each semester the student will have to appear for two mid-semester exams and one end-semester exam. All the exams were conducted within due time and the exams were not too difficult.

There are many internships, both off-campus & on-campus, offered in our college from 3rd Year onwards. Students also work as SDE interns at Amazon. Internships are also offered by TCS & Wipro. The SDE interns are given the tasks of software development for Amazon and developing the website.

IEM Kolkata is famous for its placements. From 3rd year onwards students start working. The students become eligible for campus placements from the 6th semester onwards. In 2020 a total of 783 offers were made. The highest package was that of 32 LPA which was offered to 8 students from Amazon after working as SDE interns. The average package was that of 7 LPA which was offered to freshers from TCS and WIPRO. In the year 2020, IEM successfully placed 90% of its students. After getting the degree I would definitely sit for campus placements. I have plans of pursuing M.TECH as well.

The fees structure of 4 years B.TECH course is as follows: 1) 91,200 for the 1st semester. 2) 70,000 for each of the rest of the 7 semesters. So total fees for pursuing a B.TECH course in this college is around 5.81 Lacs. A number of government scholarships are there, which requires the under-grad student to appear for an examination. In 2020, 8 students were offered an SDE internship at Amazon, after which they'll be receiving a package of 32 LPA. Tech-giants such as TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Cognizant and many more visit the college campus for recruiting freshers.

IEM Kolkata has a very small campus compared to the other engineering colleges. The college is very strict in terms of discipline. But when we talk about infrastructure, the college with its world-class amenities can be compared with the IITs. Annual Fest IMPACT is conducted every year in January. Tech fests such as the SMART-MAKER festival and many other fests are also held in the college. The college also organizes international conferences on different subjects. The college has a library in each building where the students can issue all types of academic books. The college has a mini-golf course, mini-soccer field, cricket nets, badminton, volleyball and basketball courts. Besides other extracurricular activities are also The college has many clubs and groups namely the IEEE society, TOASTMASTERS club, CODECHEF chapter and many other clubs.
