Remarks
IEM is one of the oldest private engineering colleges in West Bengal. It is a NAAC Grade A approved college. It has decent placement records over 95% of students from CSE, IT and ECE get placed in MNCs like TCS, WIPRO, IBM, COGNIZANT, CAPGEMINI, etc. The faculties are highly qualified and provide good learning scope. This college was previously under MAKAUT but now it has turned into an autonomous body, you can get admission in this college through WBJEE after 12th or WBJEE JELET after Diploma on basis of your rank. The infrastructure of the college is one of the worst, it has nothing much to offer to its students. There are two buildings of IEM - Gurukul (for CSE, IT, ECE) and IEM-Ashram (for EEE, ME, EE).
Course Curriculum Overview
CSE is the best to go within IEM, though I chose ECE over it as it has better future scope. The faculty at IEM are highly qualified and experienced, there are many 3 teachers per subject to cover the syllabus on time. Many of the faculties have PhD in their respective subjects, many are industry return teachers having M.Tech teaches in IEM, bridging the gap between college studies and industrial work. There are two midterms and one Endsem every semester. The numbers from the mindset are added to the Endsem marks, so it becomes quite difficult to be consistent as every exam carries some weightage. Odd Sem - August to January and Even Sem - January to July.
Placement Experience
IEM provides the best campus placements for CSE, IT and ECE branches over 95% of the students gets placed in TCS, WIPRO, IBM, COGNIZANT, etc. The average offer a student gets is 4.3 LPA from the MNCs. Mainly IT companies visit the campus for recruitment. I would be able to sit for campus placements after completion of my 7th sem.
Fees and Financial Aid
Previously the fees were quite normal about 45k/ sem as it was under MAKAUT University but now as it follows autonomy so the fee has increased to 65K/ Sem and 92K at the time of admission (both sem fee + admission). There is no such scholarship programme in the college, the campus placements are better than any other college in West Bengal.
Campus Life
IEM lacks good infrastructure, it has no such playing ground. It has two buildings Gurukal and Ashram, though it has a 24 x 7 library for students to issue books or study them in the library. Most of the books are easily available in the library, due to the ongoing pandemic classes are being conducted online. There are many clubs like IEM-IEDC, IEM-ACM Student Chapter and IEM Hackathon which provides exposure to its students in every aspect.
