Remarks

One Mr. Robert who was always at the counter of the college with tremendous memory - He was Management for us for all practical purposes. Otherwise, the college principal and other management visibility were very low.

Course Curriculum Overview

There was hardly any industry specific. There was no system for campus recruitments as today. However, what I learnt then is still relevant. We had Practical classes which helped us develop skills and are helpful even today. In our time, Industry specific experiences were not there.

Placement Experience

5

I cannot say today as our times there was no system for campus recruitments. As I understand today is systemic.

College Events

4

Annual dinners (different batches), college festivals, farewells, and others. Annual cultural festivals are great - attended by at least three times the number of students in the college. A lot of preparation goes into that and have presentations from old Alumni also.

Fee Structure And Facilities

normal; At our time, the fees were more for the college compared to others. However, over a period of time, the fees are rationalized. I cannot say for sure how expensive it is now but I would not be surprised if the fees are more - at the same time, there is transparency now more than before.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions

I got science talent scholarship - it was based on an all India examination and project report. This application was done at school stage only and if one was successful, one could avail the scholarship provided Basic Science course was pursued.

Campus Life

Our college at that time was male-only. However, our main subject classes were in the univ dept where we had a batch of the female class coming from another college where the science courses were available thru on univ. dept only. All types of religion/areas of the country were represented. The female ratio in our class was more. Again we had a large chunk of students who were middle-income groups - a few from higher strata. It was a mix of students from Government schools who were not so good at spoken English - this did create a superiority complex amongst Public School pass outs. All Languages of India were spoken amongst our batch and it did make us learn at least small basics of different languages. Personally, except for the spoken English part, there was no problem intermingling with fellow students.

Alumni/Alumna

Alumni were not so popular those days as compared to today. We recently in July (on-line because of a pandemic) did 50 years of our coming together - involving batch mates from other colleges also - but it was not under any Alumni banner. However, there is normally an annual dinner for College Alumni hosted by normally somebody high up in the official circle who has access to spacious lawns.

Admission

My preference. i) Reputation and ii) administration; applied as a normal student would do - attended to a small interview and questioning by the administrator. It was in 1975 - now the system is changed and admissions are based on univ listing. Opted for this course as I had done BSc.

Faculty

3.5

Generally good. However, the standard was not as would be in the university department. The faculties had themselves graduated from college and univ dept - were aware of the requirements. Generally was acceptable for practicals. There was little interaction for the theory.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose the MSC physics course because I want to pursue it and go for research in physics. And jnu is one of the leading universities in India for both sciences and language courses. Faculty to student ratio is also good. They select only 40 students for the course. The faculties are top quality and they teach the topics in a very easy way and are the top researchers in their field and published many books. As our sem started out late so to manage according to the academic calendar semester duration was reduced to 2.5 months with one mid-sem and end-sem examination. It is not easy to score in the exams as faculties set a tough paper.

Placement Experience:

Companies come for placement during the 3rd semester. Our placement cell does so much hard work to attract companies. Some of the past recruiters were Cognizant, E&Y, Gartner, Max Life Insurance, etc., and around 101 students are placed with an average package of 8 Lakh/annum. The highest Package was 18-20 Lakh/Annum and the lowest was 4-5 Lakh/Annum. My plan is to go for placement here.

Placement Experience:

Students become eligible for placements during the final semester of M.Sc Electronics. Companies that visit Jamia are Airtel, TCS, Hitachi, Wipro, AT&T, and Samsung. All students were 100% placed in these big companies. Some who do internships in other companies were offered Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs). The highest package offered was around 5 lakhs and the average offered was around 1 lakh. I did get placed in Reliance Jio, however, I wished to study further, therefore I did a few months of work in the company and then dropped to pursue MBA.

Campus placement is very good here. Many companies like google, byzu, TOI and many more come every year. Placement cell is very good. Average package is about 6-8 lac per annum. But basically few students gets placements. They go for research so they keep study further and opt for phd.

Entrance Preview:

The college conducts its own entrance exam and on the basis of marks obtained in the exam, they call for admission. As AIIMS is one of the most prestigious colleges in India it was obviously my first choice over other colleges for a post-graduate degree.
