Remarks

Proper placement cell is needed. Also guide to get internships is the need of the hour.

Course Curriculum Overview

Course curriculum was up to date which was design similar to the IIMs. Most of the faculties were from various industry and thereby imparted practical knowledge rather than only theoretical lectures. Few faculties were ex faculties of IIM and XLRI. There were a few management book authors as well.

Placement Experience

1.5

Since the institute was a government one ( University of Calcutta) hence they don't have any placement cell nor any placement officer. So were dependent on off-campus interviews. We used to get help from our alumni as well as our faculties on this regard.

College Events

4

We used to have reunion of ex students and the reunion helps us to get off campus interviews. Also institute used to conduct various seminars attended by many experts from various industry. We got the chance to attend a lot of conferences conducted by Chamber of commerce.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Since its a Government institution the fee structure was very nominal. Our admission fee was Rs. 100 and we used to pay a monthly fee of Rs. 200 only. Mode of payment was manual only. We need to visit the university fee collection counter and deposit the fees there.

Fees and Financial Aid

Scholarships was not available and nobody needs it as the fee structure was very nominal and highly affordable.

Campus Life

Campus life was very good. Male: Female ratio was 60:40. Lot of extracurricular activities like sports, debates, functions, get together used to happen. Annual sports was a main attraction of our campus. Fresher's welcome was also very attractive at our time.

Hostel Facilities

Hostel facilities was there but I could not avail that as that was for out station candidates only. The fees of hostel was very nominal and affordable, however the location was far away from the original campus.

Alumni/Alumna

Alumnus were very helpful during our time. We used to get our internships as well as off campus interviews for final placements through them only.

Admission

My institute used to conduct its own entrance exam. Exam was of 100 marks comprising Maths ( Graduation level), English, Reasoning & General Knowledge. After qualifying the written test there was personal interview and on the basis of both the test the merit list was published. There were about five thousand students who took the test and no of available seats were 30.

Faculty

4.5

Faculties were highly qualified in their own domain. Mathematics part were taught by faculties from ISI. Management part were taught by ex XLRI & IIM faculties. Most of them were authors of various management books. Imparting practical knowledge and making us industry ready were there motto of teaching.

College does provide internship opportunities both through the placement cell as well as department faculty. Semester 5 and Semester 7 students are eligible for placements. Average package is about 5.5 lakh per annum for microbiology course. Although placement percentage is on the lower side majority of students go for higher studies. college placements are good in this college with a number of good financial and consultancy firms coming in with new gen companies as well in the service and sales industry. moreoever getting a good placement in a top financial or consultancy placement requires a POR in a good society as a criteria, its not really required but adds to your chances of getting it. moreover you require to participate in a number of case study competitions for the same as well. my plans after graduation is probably working for a year or two after which i plan on doing my MBA. around 50-60% who apply get a placement.

The course also includes practical classes in the sound labs, editing labs and we will learn to use a camera, as one of the things we will have to do in this course is make films of our own.

In today's competitive job market it becomes important for the college to not just help students get degrees but also provide them with placements and internships so that they can have the experience needed to stand at a competitive footing with the rest of the candidates in the world. To look into this, St. Xavier's College has a Placement Cell run by Placements officer Mr. Niladri Sinha under whose guidance, various companies visit the college regularly looking for capable young minds to take under their wing and help provide them with the necessary exposure and experience so that they can combat any obstacles that they face.
