What Students Say
Likes
- classrooms are pretty spacious although might not always have air conditioners but gives you the feel of a classroom.
- Majority teachers in my course are very study oriented in a good way and friendly as well. moreover, they are helpful besides just academics as well and provide us with proper mentorship as well.
- the administration is very helpful and worthy of credit for what and how they perform all their responsibilities and make sure to shape us into responsible students as well.
Dislikes
- the syllabi is very old module oriented, there should be an introduction to modern economics or the subject theyre studying in general.
Course Curriculum Overview
honestly, i chose this course because it is supposed to be the "flagship" course of the college, however it is very different from what we expect. it is really good and students do get more respect than the others but the curriculum doesnt comprise any real world applications and is majorly theory. the only area for improvement in the course i believe is in the fact that they should include real world applications in it as well as the theoretical portion already present and the teachers should furthermore teach accordingly. the exam schedule and frequency in my opinion is perfect and keeps the students in check with the subject.
Internships Opportunities
internship opportunities all depend on the course youre pursuing with all details given if you choose to do an internal internship with college, i personally am not doing that so not well versed with everything regarding this. however there are a number of opportunities in every field and good course related works as well.
Placement Experience
college placements are good in this college with a number of good financial and consultancy firms coming in with new gen companies as well in the service and sales industry. moreoever getting a good placement in a top financial or consultancy placement requires a POR in a good society as a criteria, its not really required but adds to your chances of getting it. moreover you require to participate in a number of case study competitions for the same as well. my plans after graduation is probably working for a year or two after which i plan on doing my MBA. around 50-60% who apply get a placement.
Fees and Financial Aid
year wise fee i will be paying is roughly 75000, but for semester 2 1st insallment it cost me around 17000, with a segregated fee for computer lab, tuition fee, additional fee, development fee and the exam fee summing upto 16100 to be precise as follows: computer fee : 3000 tuition fee: 1500 other fee : 11600 Moreover, for other departments like Bcom (Bachelors of commerce), their 1st semester 1st installment fee is roughly 40000, inclusive of the admission fee and otherwise per semester installment wise it is roughly around 15000-20000 inclusive of the various subjects we will be studying and the college amenities which will be used in that session. Other courses like the Bcom Evening batch and other multimedia and biotechnology courses are on a higher side regarding their fee strucutre ranging from 60000-65000 as their semester 1 installment 1 fee. There are a number of scholarship availabilites depending on a students performance in a particular semester, year or subject as well.
Campus Life
there isnt really a campus life but if youre lucky you might just find really good friends like i did, making your college life much better than you could expect. socially, there are a lot of opportunities and socities/clubs require a lot of involvement and "dedication" to get good posts in the society later on in your college life. sports and extracurricular activities are well managed with good athletes in our college.
Admission
i applied to the National University of Singapore where i got admission in the Economics course but had to take back my offer due to personal reasons. moreover i tried for colleges in Delhi University however my score wasnt adequate for the college i wanted for economics so i had to stay back in this college which otherwise was my choice over any other college. the admission process here is rather tedious, you have to get your registration form for this college signed by your school principal with your picture and get that along with all other original documents during the document verification day, eligibility i believe includes the presence of mathematics at any cost. the cutoffs here go pretty high, especially for economics, calculated on a maths+best of 4 basis out of 200.
Faculty
the faculty to student ratio is pretty well divided and adequate, the teachers are very helpful and maintain or atleast try to maintain a healthy relationship with each student present. moreover there arent any professors i dislike but a number of professors i really like for their teaching style and knowledge of the subject in general, who i will not be naming. we have 4 exams a year, 2 mid semester examinations happening in september and march respectively and 2 end semester examinations happening in december and may respectively. they are not difficult perse if you have studied the modules and topics along with the notes the teachers provide and the books they suggest. in our course, there are barely 2-3 students who fail to clear the exam but the curriculum is pretty relevant besides it not having any modern day economics present. the curriculum however is based on the fact that we get a knowledge about every topic in economics and the teachers henceforth encourage us to write research papers and study modern day economics based on those topics or our knowledge on economics in general.
Night Life
the nightlife around is really bad if you stay in the hostel, requiring you to get back in by 7:40-8pm max, however if you live in a PG, its really good with a number of gyms, cafes, libraries and public areas for hangouts and having a good time in the heart of kolkata, park street. the locality is honestly not safe anywhere in india anymore but park street is rather a safer option in kolkata due to a lot of public presence everywhere.
