Course Curriculum Overview

1

The course curriculum was well thought out as per me but there were subjects that i found absolutely unnecessary. Subjects like history evs and clc were in no way related to my course. Coming to the main subjects Design, Printing, Photography and film and Media Training were absolutely necessary for my course and whilst the faculty for some of these subjects were really bad, some were good. It is also important to mention none of these subjects actually helped us prepare for the real world. Instead internships and freelance helped us more than these subjects could ever do. Exams were held bi monthly to keep track of what we learnt and every 6 months we had our semester exams. Overall if you want to be a media professional INTERNSHIPS AND JOBS WILL HELP YOU MORE THAN A COLLEGE WILL. I am biased on this opinion as my college didnt provide me with the correct guidance and support i needed to make it in the real world.

Fees and Financial Aid

The year wise course fee was approx - 1,14,000 Tuition fee - 88,000 ; caution fee - 0 ; registration fee - 2500 ; admission - 8,000 ; lab fee - 0 ; miscellaneous - 10-15k depending on your course for me it was roughly 11 The only available scholarship was the "ASHA JYOTI" scholarship which ranged from 30-85% To avail the scholarship one had to sit for an exam which included aptitude tests, family income needed to be lower than 70k per month, required marks to sit for the exam was 85% for 10th and 80 for 12th.

Campus Life

4

One thing about this college that i actually liked was the overall "college experience". I made friends and i made memories (not really sure if it helped me make it in the real world but it was nice for what it was). Unfortunately there isnt much to do in the college apart from studying as there were no fields and the canteen was closed for half of my college life (renovating for 2 years. Yes even i was shocked). I probably gained more knowledge sitting outside my college campus in the tea stall than i did inside. We had 2 main fests Login (management) and Ycom (media). I was the club president for our drama club and apart from that i was also a part of the college band. There were 2-3 other clubs namely the dance club, green india initiative club and umang (a multicultural club which was focused on creating a safe space for students) Sports and other physical activities were not a priority as ive mentioned before we never had fields to play in also we had a single carrom board which nobody used.

Admission

I didnt apply to any other college as i was told by my peers NSHM was a great college. The admission qas fairly easy i didnt had to sit for any exam all it took was the admission fees. I unfortunately dont have comprehensive knowledge on the exams coordinated for entrance as i didnt have to sit for any but there were students in my batch who had to do so.

Faculty

2

I cant speak about the entire college and their faculty BUT for my course the faculty was absolutely horrendous. We had a design program where the faculty teaching us design had never touched an adobe program. If someone wants to pay good money for absolutely no reason NSHM is the choice for you. The one faculty that comes to mind is Projit Sarkar, he never taught us what was actually on our syllabus and our entire batch ended up filing complaint against him but no action was taken as he was one of our director's close mates. But even then our film and photography professors were top notch absolutely class. I've learnt more about life and my subjects from them than ive ever did before and till this day they are one of the most beloved professors of my college Yearly there were 2 major tests periods, these papers were fairly easy for my course as it had more to do with common sense than mindless memorising. The only students who failed were the ones who failed to show up for the exam.

Night Life

1

Almost nobody stayed after 8pm because the area in which my college was, was not a safe area. There were no cafes, gyms or any kind of recreational places near NSHM. The only place where the students hanged around was the tea stall just opposite the campus. The in timings for the college hostel was probably 9 but im not sure as i didnt stay there also there were no pgs near my college so it was a hassle for a lot of students as they had to come from far. Also the narrow street right beside my college was the hub of shady activities. I'd advice people to stay as far as possible from there because the people living in the area didn't appreciate the "shady business" happening. There was no night life in the college or even a evening life. If we had to hangout we used to go to Jadavpur university.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I love computer science so I chose this department. The teaching in this department is very good and the labs are also very good. We have many exams in our semester. It would have been better if we had studied our theory paper a little better. And it would have been better if we had studied Android app development a little better.
