Remarks

I am not gonna say it's the best college out there, but most of the important lessons I learnt in my life and friends and contacts I have made would not have been possible if I was in a different college. It really helped me in building my personality and prepared me for all the challenges that I am gonna face after college life. The college management could have done few things differently like making exam process less rigorous, encourage faculties to not to use conventional methods of teaching and instead focus on different ways in making the lectures more interactive and interesting. Other than this Mukesh Patel College of Engineering is a good college like the culture in the college is really good and if you're a student who is looking for taking admission in the college, my advice is to go ahead and do it.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The exam structure is for the internals you have to give 2 mid term exams 15 marks each and 20 marks are reserve for assignment, mini project, practicals and viva. It is completely upto the course teacher to decide what all things they wanted to conduct for these 20 marks. Some facilities also conduct poster presentation and case studies for the 20 marks internals. After all the internals are done the marks you scored out of 50 was scaled down to 30. Then for the semester end examination the college used to conduct 70 marks paper for external subject. The internal subject are of 50 marks and there is no internal exam for that. Students needed 50% combined in internal as well as external to pass the particular course. Most of the learning was theory based. Though college tried to give surface level knowledge on various different fields of computer domain, there was no in-depth teaching of concepts and students have to figure out and learn most of the stuff on their own while doing projects. The college tried to keep and cover many subjects in their curriculum and that is the reason why it gave most of the students a better understanding of skills they want to improve and work with in future.

Placement Experience

4

College does not conduct internship drive for B. Tech students, however the provide both management and technical internship to MBA. Tech students. Placement drive is taken very seriously. From mass recruiter such as TCS and Infosys to international company such as Rakuten and ZS Associates provide placements to students of Mukesh Patel. The placement committee takes proper care that student maintain proper code and conduct during technical and aptitude test rounds to final interview rounds. Filling up forms, submitting resume, well dressed and properly groomed students are only allowed to give aptitude and technical tests. Every company have a different placement process but to generalise there is one aptitude round, one technical interview round and one HR interview round a company takes to finalise a candidate for their job. Once a student gets selected in a niche company his name is withdrawn from placement process and he cannot sit for other that comes to campus for placement. I was placed in my first week of placement process in the 2nd company that came for placement so I don't have much experience in this process per se. College takes placement process very seriously and hence conducts proper aptitude and soft skills training for 60-65 hours before allowing a student to sit for placement. 80-90% of the students who sit for placement gets placed during the placement process. Many students also prefer doing masters than sitting in placement and that might be the reason company comes with less package to college for placement.

College Events

3.5

There are basically four major fests that happens in college, the cultural fest sattva, the technical fest Taqneeq, the sports fest conquer and the social awareness fest Social impact. The cultural fest Sattva is the biggest 2-3 day festival where various events and programs takes place. Various events like open mic, debates, dance and music competition. And various celebrities are invited during the cultural fest too. In technical fest most of the events are programming and robot competition and some workshop to improve technical skills too. The sports fest have various inter branch competition in different indoor and outdoor sports. The social impact is kind of like MUN and also have debate competition on various social issues. There is also one literature fest in which comic con is organised and in night they have an open mic. The budget of cultural fest is 10-15 lakh while other fests have fairly less budget 4-5 Lakh.

Fee Structure And Facilities

College charges the same fees from students of all the different branches of engineering courses that are provided by the college. The fees is approximately 12 lakhs for the 4 year course. A sum of three lakh is needed to be paid to college at the start of each academic year. The college also have a management quota in which an extra of 1 lakh is charged every year to upgrade to the course of your choice. The fee structure is not detailed it's very black and white in terms of understanding. The fees is only accepted through RTGS mode of payment and there is no other way you can pay the fees for the course.

Fees and Financial Aid

The college didn't provide any scholarships to any of the students. The criteria for getting admission was very clear and merit based. The person who scored good rank was not given any compensation or scholarship. Though the person who scored good rank has an advantage during the orientation process during which every student had to give choice about the branch he want to take. So the person with the good rank gets to choose first and the one with more rank gets to choose after him or her. And if the branch you like is full you have to take admission in your second or third favourite branch you put in the option.

Campus Life

3

The gender ratio was fairly better than it usually is in engineering colleges. The gender ratio will be for every 100 boys there are 600 girls. The college have various cultural as well as technical societies. Since the fees of the college is too high, most of the people who took admission in college come from well doing family backgrounds. There is diversity in students and there were students from different states in India but most of the students who study there were either Gujarati or Maharashtrian. Extra-curricular activities such as coding competition, robot fighting competition, debates, indoor sports competition such as Table tennis and chess happens throughout the year and various events like cultural night and traditional day also happens once a year. There is no concept of ragging or racism in college. A little friendly banter happens now and then between friends but people take care and make sure that sentiments of no one is hurt.

Alumni/Alumna

I personally haven't had interaction with any alumni from the college. But I know an alumni who got placed in the same company as I am and he was my campus sponsor from the company side to help with the transition from college to that company and he was very helpful and supportive. He cleared all my doubts I had before joining the company. So from my experience I can say college senior or alumni are helpful and I will try to be as helpful alumni to my fellow juniors as my senior was to me.

Admission

NMIMS conducts NPAT entrance examination for Student to get admission into bachelor degree courses provided by them. Somewhere around May 2016 I gave NPAT examination and secured a rank under 1000. The engineering college of NMIMS, Mukesh Patel School of Technology management and engineering only gives admission based on your NPAT ranks. Also, you need to score above 50-60% in your 12th boards to get admission. Once the results came in June we were called to college to decide which branch we wanted to choose. The branch was given to students on merit basis.

Faculty

3.5

Most of the faculties in our college has completed their masters degree, some are either pursuing their PhDs or have finished it. All the faculties who teach to the third and the 4th year students have done few industry level courses and they are either doing some project or research along with teaching. They also give students who are good with the subject they are doing their project on, an opportunity to work with them on their project. Few of the faculties even have published research paper with students in their team. The old faculties believe in conventional method of teaching and conducting exam while the faculty who are fairly younger always experiment with teaching methods. The young faculty gives real world case study related to subject to solve and are more practical oriented rather than theory. The average age of a faculty in our college would be 32-35 year. The lecturers are very helpful and if they have expertise in particular domain in which student have doubt they never hold back in helping the students.

Placement Experience:

In my college students become eligible for campus placements from 7th semester and every year many companies come for hiring. Recently companies like TCS Accenture Cognizant Hitachi JSW Group Philips Axis Bank and some startups also visited so we get both IT and core chances. As per the latest data the highest package was around 24 LPA and the average stays around 6 to 6.5 LPA for most students and the lowest offers start from 3.5 LPA so it depends a lot on the role and company. Many students get placed but it mostly depends on skills performance and branch so it is not guaranteed for everyone. I feel the college gives decent chances but we also have to do our own preparation because competition is high. If I dont get placement from campus then I will try off campus also because there are many openings outside specially in IT. Overall placements are good for this level college and since companies keep coming for drives students who prepare properly usually get at least one offer.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Course curriculum is also good and it is explained in detail on the college's website and there are labs for the courses which made learning fast and easy. Relevance(industry alignment)->8/10 The curriculum is designed to keep up with the industry needs especially in fast growing fields like computer science, management, design and pharmacy. Updated course such as AI, machine learning, cybersecurity, data science and 3D printing are included for tech students. Industry exposure depends on the students initiative it's not equally strong in every department. Comprehensiveness-> 7.5/10 First year courses focus on building strong basics in science, mathematics and communication skills. Later semesters introduce specialisation, electives, research projectsand soft skill training. The curriculum also includes personality development, entrepreneurship and innovation modules. A few departments could integrate new technologies fatser into the syllabus. Practical v/s theoretical balance: Labs, workshops and real world projects are a core part of the structure, especially in engineering, design, and science programs. CIA like case studies, presentations, and assignments encourage hands on learning. However, in some programs, there is a still heavier focus on the theory, so students must actively seek extra learning resources

The highest on campus is 43 lakhs while off campus is around 1.4cr. average package is 14-15 lpa mostly for swe roles. Percentage student getting placed is 50% oncampus and if we add off campus the number goes to 80%. I plan to work in the industry for 2-3 years and then try to go for masters.
