Remarks
I would like the manegement to revamp the course curriculum and provide better laboratory infrastructure while making sure students get enough exposure.
Course Curriculum Overview
To be very honest the Bio-Tech course curriculum and exam structure needs a revision. It isn't fair enough to drill the reseach aptitude of students. The exams aren't application based rather just a rote learning test. The laboratory infrastructure isn't well enough. Also there is no scope of campus placements or industrial visits of any sort. I was kind of disappointed after choosing Jamia over my other options.
Placement Experience
There wasn't any campus placement. There wasn't any placement or internship drives. Also, we weren't provided any legitimate information regarding the 6 month essential internship that was a part of the curriculum. Students were advised to find a research laboratory for themselves to reduce the load on the department.
College Events
The University holds a number of cultural festivals including the renowned Talimi Mela. It is a sort of exhibition that takes place every year during the month of October. There is a huge display of PERFORMANCES, art, crafts, models, sculptures prepared by students enrolled in the different courses the college offers. Even local residents can visit the fair. Another important annual event that takes place in the Univesity is Miraas which is again a cultural social event that includes a variety of performances from artists. Aside from these anuual events, there are a range of quiz, debate, theater, seminars, symposiums and art competitions taking place all year round.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Very feasible. The mode of payment is by cash. No additional fee except the one stated in the prosectus is asked for. The college is very transparent about the fee breakdown. The fee for my program was 7000 a year. Being a central university the fee was very less as compared to other private colleges. Also, the facility of a minimal annual fee at the start of the session is a better option than paying a lump sum of several thousands every semesters.
Fees and Financial Aid
I did not opt for nay scholarship.but a variety of scholarship are available for students belonging to minority sections or those who are merit holders in the courses.
Campus Life
The gender ratio was fair. Campus Life was good. Fresher, farewell parties at college and hostels levels were organised. There was no incidence of any discrimination experienced by me. People are vocal about their political and economic opinions. There were students from different ethnicities and evry one was respected and provided with equally.
Hostel Facilities
I opted for hostel. I underwent a proper scrutiny of my details which included an application form, a proper interview of me, my parents with the hostel staff. The average rental was 15000 for a semester including lodging and food. The rooms were good properly built with cupboards, windows and a balcony. Also, every room and the common bathourooms was cleaned everyday. Each room provided accomodation for 3 girls. Also a separte new hostel has been built to accomodate more girls who intend to stay in college hostels.
Alumni/Alumna
I haven't had any interaction with the alumni network of my department. Also I am not aware of any such group formed. Howver, a facebook group does exist where posts are made but no interactions whatsoever.
Admission
I completed my graduation and was willing to study further in India itself. Hence I applied for a number of colleges and wrote entrance exams for all the ones I opted for. Out of every other college, I chose Jamia for its location, its central status and it's reputation. The admission process includes filling an application form followed by an entrance exam in May. Results are declared around June after which certain formalities such as document and fee submission have to be performed if you get selected.
Faculty
There were around 10 faculty members in the Biotechnology department who were very well qualified between the ages of 38-50. Every lecturer is someone who excels in their own field with relevant certifications and experiences holding respect and tunneled vision in their field.
