Course Curriculum Overview
The focus on research is beyond words . They gives you hands on expertise on different data analytics tools like python, stata and R. And not only this, they makes your economics based very strong and teaches you to apply it in real life. Have everything that a student would need for placements. Field trips. Hands on experience. And the curriculum is well suited and conherent within and outside India. Great curriculum
Internships Opportunities
Data analytics, financial and consultancy roles mainly. Referral are good. Companies like TCS, MORGAN AND STANLEY, etc gives internships and pay also. You can do projects with the professors in and outside iitd and get paid. We do a year lond research project and field trips also
Placement Experience
Internships are offered after sem 1. And placement scenario is good, with good packages. Big companies like JP MORGAN, HCL, FIITJEE, GOOGLE, TCS, IPAC, etc. highest package for our course was 37 lakhs/ annum. And minimum was 11 lakh. More than 80% gets placed. My plan is to pursue PhD
Fees and Financial Aid
Fee is 40k, and the seat rent for hostels is also fine. Meals are expensive; food is good, but cost-cutting can be looked into. In all for msc economics, per semester the total expenditure is around 1 lakh. There are scholarships for students who excel in studies, have low income, are in the sc category and so on. Messing is free for sc students. They offer a lot of good internships.
Campus Life
Rendezvous, tryst, various department fests, international conferences like AMES. All sorts of books are available in the Library. Digital access is also provided. The Library is one of the best places to be in. There's no need to talk about tech, the institute is known for it. There is everything a student wants there in extracurriculars - swimming, badminton, chess, football, dance, drama, poetry, debate and everything one could think of. NSS, IGES, etc.
Hostel Facilities
The rooms vary, very good rooms in new hostels and decent in old ones. ACs are there in new ones. The view is good. All facilities are there. Laundry, shops, food at any time- day or night. Mess is a bit overpriced but the food is good, quality is good and variety is good too. Registration process begins with the admission process. And seat rent is fine.
Admission
Bachelors is required with 55% atleast. JAM score is required. Cut off for obc was 33 as far as I remember . The entrance test tests your quantitative and qualitative ability. All the details are given on the website of iit delhi or just typing JAM would do. JAM gives you the opportunity to do your msc economics from iits. IITD exclusively conducts a test for extra seats in May and the details are provided on iitd website in huss department.
Faculty
It is 1/15. It is good, allows the class to be interactive and professor can better take care of the needs of the students. All are highly learned, having their degrees from world renowned Universities like JNU, Yales, ISI, DSE, IGIDR, University of Virginia, from France and so on. It is easy to approach professors and even the PhDs help you with things you are doubtful about. The environment of the department is very accepting, friendly and leads to growth.
