- PG students don't get hostel in the first semester/
- Less PG student participation in campus activities and clubs despite being majority population in IIT Delhi.
- Rigid course structure for PG students with less chance to explore courses from other non technical branches.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course is highly relevant with modern industry standards as most of the faculties either have worked in the industry or have strong connection so they know exactly how to model their course content. The faculties also take constant feedback from the students to make the course even more relevant and beneficial for the students. The projects and assignments are of such high standards that most students here include the course assignments in their resumes. Assignments are a constant part of any course and besides this there are 2 main exams the minor exam and the major exam both of which are considerably difficult to pass.
Internships Opportunities
There are ample internship opportunities in the campus with many big companies hiring students for internships and even giving the PPOs. SInce the duration of Mtech is 2 years and students have to do TA duty as well there is no scope for intership for mtech students since by the time intern period approaches, they have to start preparing for placements. But B.Tech students get good internship experience and most of them have atleast 2-3 internships before their placements.
Placement Experience
There is no strict eligibility criteria for placements but most companies hire above 7.0 CGPA for MTech students. Many big names like Samsung, google, QUALCOMM, Microsoft etc. hire from IIT delhi. The highest package was 51 Ipa and average is 20 Ipa. Most profiles offered were SDE, system engineer and ML engineer. The placement record was 100% and all students got placed. I am currently planning on taking placement from IIT Delhi and then after sometime I will explore my own startup possibilities.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees structure is different for students on MHRD assistance which is around Rs. 20000 per semester and self-sponsored candidates have to pay around Rs. 94000 per semester. Besides this non-sponsored students have to do Teaching Assistance work for which they get a stipend of Rs. 12400 per month. Hostel fees is Rs. 54000 including the security deposit, mess fees and room rent. The fees structure remains the same unless there is any increase from the central government.
Campus Life
Life at campus is very exciting and there is hardly a dull day here at IIT DELHI. There are clubs for everything be it technical clubs or non technical clubs. You can very easily become a part of these clubs and hone your skills. Most of the clubs have students representing IIT at a national and even international level. All clubs are student run. The cultural fest of IIT Delhi is called Rendezvous and it happens in the month of October. It is one of the greatest fests in central asia with a footfall of roughly 10 lakh people. The library is quite well maintained and all the latest books and journals are available. If some book is unavailable then the library tries to get that arranges asap. Classrooms are top notch with all hightech facilities such as projector, surround sound, centralised air conditioning system and comfortable seating.
Hostel Facilities
Hostels are decent with all the required facilities. Rooms have a chair, a dedicated work table, an almirah and a fan. There are washing machines in the wing and common bathroom. You can also get your clothes washed and ironed through the hostel laundry service. Besides this there is a gym in the hostel, a reading room, common room, TV room, music room, basketball court and many gardens inside the hostel. The mess is hygenic and serves great meals. Overall the hostel is quite affordable and if we calculate the cost it comes out to be roughly around Rs. 7000 per month for room rent and mess.
Admission
I chose IIT Delhi because it has the best faculties and a strong alumni network. Besides this the research aspects here are better than other colleges. I had applied to IIT bombay, IIT Jodhpur, IIT madras and IIT kanpur but I got offer for IIT Delhi before all the other colleges. The admission process is common for all iits as it happens through GATE score and the COAP portal. Besides this IIT delhi is at the heart of the country so travelling to any other place is also easy from here.
Faculty
Faculties are the best in the world here at IIT Delhi. All of them are PHDs and masters of their respective subjects. The assignments provided are in-depth and require immense technical knowledge which helps students build their skillset and enhance their knowledge. Some great faculties include Sanjeeva Prasad, Smruti Ranjan Sarangi, Parag Singla, Aaditeshwar Seth, etc. The course structure depends on the faculty as some of them keep more component for assignments and lesser for major and minor exams while some do the reverse. There are 2 exams the minor exams and the major exams. The passing criteria and other statistics are in the hands of the faculty teaching the subject.
Interview Experience
The admission process included the GATE score based on which the first round of screening was done. After this there was a coding round and a technical test round. After clearing these there were two rounds of interviews post which the offer was given on the COAP portal.
Night Life
Nightlife in campus is even more excitin than the daylife. Most students come out at night and there are many spaces where you can hangout. There is student activity center where we can enjoy many activities like music, dancing, arts, and there is also a fully functional gym inside the SAC. Every hostel has there own night canteen which is open from 9.00 PM to 4.00 AM. There is 24-hours open CCD, Chayos and and entire IIT market where there are multiple shops and eateries. There is no restriction in hostel for in and out timings. Some famous hangout spots are CCD, Mech Lawn, SAC, etc. The important thing is that students can hangout late in the night as well as IIT delhi is an extremenly secure campus with guards at every nook and corner of the campus providing great security.
Other Applied Colleges
IIT Bombay - Indian Institute of Technology - [IITB] | Master of Technology [M.Tech] (Computer Science and Engineering)
I got offer from IIT delhi before IIT bombay so I opted this college.
