Remarks

Overall my college is quite good and the atmosphere is friendly. But more up-gradation of labs, syllabus and faculties who are keen to teach needs to be done. Overall, I am quite pleased with the offerings of my college.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

So, the BTECH course is of 4 years duration with 8 semesters and in total there are 3 departments in GCECT, which are CSE, IT and Ceramic Technology(CT). To be honest, the college is famous for Ceramic stream all over India and organize frequent industry visits, internships and seminars for the ceramic students. For the CSE and IT students, things are a bit different, one has to organize for internships on their own and industry visits are not organized by the college. We were taught the old syllabus of CSE and IT, but right now the syllabus has been updated for those studying in the first year right now and new concepts such as ML, python, AI is being taught to some extent as well. However, the teachers are quite helpful and help in clearing doubts of the students and placements opportunities are also quite good if one can perform. The college has a connection with different IT sector and Ceramic companies, for Ceramic students the placements are on campus generally and for IT and CSE students, they go off campus as guided by the TPO officer of the college, but if one has the knowledge and ability one can get placed easily, thankfully I got job offers from 3 companies till now, so I think self-preparation is the key.

Placement Experience

4

For the ceramic students, placements have always been close to 100% and a good salary as well. However, this year the CSE and IT students had more opportunities compared to the ceramic ones. The CSE and IT students were sent off-campus as arranged by our TPO. Students from IT and CSE got placed in companies like Infosys, TCS, Wipro, Proact, Tech Mahindra etc. About 60% of the students have been placed so far and many have chosen to do MTECH.

College Events

4

So in our college, there is a technical fest, a cultural feast, a football tournament, a cricket tournament also debate and dance competitions are organised as well. The technical fest named Karmatek has quite a few events in it and many participate in it. The cultural fest Jagriti is also quite good and bands from outside come and perform as well. cricket and football tournaments are inter-department or inter-year.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is quite affordable, for the IT students the semester fee is Rs 12000, for CSE students the semester fee is Rs 6000, for Ceramic students, the semester fees is Rs 3000. Also, if one is financially not able to pay, they can apply for the fully free and half free scheme. Fees are to be paid in cash at the SBI Beleghata branch, the breakdown of fees is quite transparent. Admission fee of Rs 5000 was charged during the first semester only.

Fees and Financial Aid

Yes, there are some scholarship opportunities for minority students. other than that there is Half-free and Full-free scheme available which anyone can apply for but will be granted to those with low income among the applicants.

Campus Life

2.5

Campus life overall is quite good, not much strict and there is ample opportunity to play sports, learn music etc along with the classes. Robotics events are held during the technical fest, it has a good interest among students. debate competitions, essay writing are also held from time to time. Gender ratio is about 3:1 for boys and girls.

Alumni/Alumna

The alumni of the college are quite helpful, it helps in organizing several events such as fests, workshops, seminars every year. They also conduct health tests twice a year and also help actively in placements.

Admission

So, firstly I gave the West Bengal Joint Entrance Exam(WBJEE) in 2016 and got a rank of 4595, I had opted for courses such as IT, CSE, ECE during the counselling process which was totally online and computerised, so during my counselling, I was allowed GCECT, and after reviewing, reading and gathering information I finally took admission in the IT stream of GCECT in 2016. I selected this institution mainly of the fact that this being a government college the tuition fees is quite low and my family couldn't afford the fees in private colleges and also it was rated quite well by NAAC and other institutes, also the college is 45 minutes bus journey away from my home, so it's quite close to my location.

Faculty

3.5

The faculty of the college is quite helping. Most of the teachers have good knowledge and come forward when the students are in need of assistance. There are also a few teachers who don't show much interest in the students and just go about their business without making sure whether the students get it or not. The average age of the teachers is around 35-40 years. Some of them had done thorough higher research in their respective fields.

I’d rate HIT’s placement opportunities as 7.5/10 overall. It’s very good for CSE, IT, and ECE, decent for Electrical and core branches, and improving every year with more companies visiting and better preparation programs. If you’re skilled and consistent — especially in coding, communication, and aptitude — you’ll almost certainly get placed before graduatin

7th semester is when the students get to sit for placements. I am not sure about the total no of companies visited but I am aware of the name of few companies like IBM Infosys Wipro Capsitech Tech Mahindra cognizant etc . Mostly the girls are 100 percent placed cause there is diversity hiring. Mass recruiters is what visit our campus mostly.. I personally would look for a job after graduation highest package offered displayed by college is 75 lpa but I don't think so it is real. Maybe someone had worked hard and got placed off campus. On campus highest isbi guess 12-14 lpa

Course Curriculum Overview:

- I choose Data Science as it is new to my college when comparing with the other branches. The curriculum is just okay it is not per industry standards but if students deep drives in each aspects then they are likely to crack GATE exams. - The whole curriculum needs and improvement from the very 1st Year and removal of irrelevant subjects like Discrete Mathematics, Electonics, Biology for IT branches are required. - Semester exams are conducted every 6 months and CTs are conducted every 2 months
