NIT Silchar- Honest Review

The college overall is a nice place to spend 4 years of your life. You'll take back a lot of memories and a job, I don't think anyone needs anything more than that. The only negative point I can think of is the location, it's pretty remote. But it hardly matters after a point.

The course curriculum has been recently upgraded with the industry's need. Obsolete subjects have been scratched and new and upgraded subjects have been added. The syllabus is upgraded after every couple of years. Talking about the exam structure, there are only two exams each semester, that is mid and end semester.

The placement and intership is provided through college by the Training and Placement Cell, whose sole job is to help students get internships in their 3rd year and a job in their 4th year. The placement percentage is decent, about 80%.

There are a plethora of events that we celebrate. Ranging from Tecnoesis, our annual techo management fest to Incandensence, the cultural fest. Apart from there to major celebrations, we celebrate all the festivals, be it Holi, Diwali, Durga Puja, Bihu. You name it and we celebrate it.

Being a government college, the fees isn't very harsh. So I think it's quite feasible. Depending on your family income you're given relaxation in fees, also there are numerous scholarships and bank loan options available on campus

I wasn't eligible for any scholarship as such, so I have little idea about it. But the academic section of our college helps students avail scholarships given by the state or central government. And for loans, there's a SBI bank located within the campus, I'm sure they can help with the loan.

The extracurriculars are never ignored. There are n number of clubs. Each sport has a different club, there's music, dance and drama club, if you're not into sports. Each club has a student secretary to manage the annual events of the club. Every week there's some event being organised by some club. So the events never end throughout the year. They do pause during the exams though.

The hostel buildings are old, except for the newly build Hostel-9. The hostels are equipped with various courts for sports like Cricket, Badminton etc. There's a reading room with magazines and newspaper. I'll rate the hostels to be average, overall. The rooms are spacious.

The alumni network is being currently setup. Every year alumni meet is held in the month of November, it's a great opportunity for the students to network to grab an internship or a job. They are pretty helpful, knowing someone who's already doing what you want to do is never worthless.

The admission is through IIT JEE Mains exam, it is conducted twice a year, though the intake is only once. Based on your score in mains, you'll be given a rank. Depending on your category, you'll be awarded a rank. And based on the rank you get to choose the department you wish you study for.

The faculty is experienced. There are a handful of passionate teachers. But again it kind of depends on your department. Talking in general, there good teachers, but there's an equal share of not so good teachers.
