Minimum Marks Required to Enter IITs

To get admission into the Top IITs through JEE Advanced, candidates have to meet minimum cutoff marks, which vary according to the category of the candidate.

These cutoffs can be determined according to the difficulty of the exam, availability of the seats and the candidate's performance.

  • If a general category candidate wants to get admission in the Top 5 IITs, they have to score more than 250 marks for in-demand branches.
  • The Cutoff for OBC-NCL and EWS candidates are 15-20 marks less than the general category candidates for all IITs.
  • For the SC/ST Candidates, the cut-off will be less than 55-75 marks for the new IITs, but for the top IITs, it is still more than 100-120 marks for the top branches.

JEE Advanced Gender wise IIT Chances

In JEE Advanced, the cut-off rank provides admission opportunities across IITs according to gender and category. The JEE Advanced provides extra seats for female candidates due to the reservation policies and supernumerary seats for female candidates. The category of the candidates also has an impact on the closing ranks of IITs.

  • In the Open (General) Category, the candidates need to secure ranks up to around 17,000 for male candidates, whereas female candidates can get the IIT by securing a rank up to 25,000.
  • For OBC-NCL category candidates, the male candidate needs to get the rank around 7,000 and the female candidate around 8,000.
  • SC candidates have cutoffs near 2,500 for males and between 3,500 to 4,500 for females to get into an IIT.
  • The ST category reflects a very rigid cutoff around only 1500 for males and 2,000 for females.
  • Similarly, EWS candidates face cutoffs near 3,500 for males and 5,500 for females.

As per the observation, the reserved category candidates have a very strict cutoff rank to secure an IIT as compared to the Open (General) category.
