Kerala Ph.D. Admission 2024: Application Form, Important Dates, Eligibility Criteria, Results, Counselling, Top Colleges

Kerala PhD Admission is conducted by the University of Kerala and is done based on a university-level entrance exam. Apart from a university-level entrance exam, candidates can also seek Kerala PhD Admission based on their UGC/CSIR /ICAR/ICMR or GATE scores.

Kerala University PhD Admission Process is expected to be conducted from June to July 2024. Kerala PhD Admission is done entirely online. Candidates must have completed their postgraduate degree from a recognized board with a minimum of 55% marks to be eligible for Kerala PhD Admission 2024.

PhD is a 3 to 6-year research-based doctoral course. Candidates who pursue the Kerala Ph.D. course in top universities must fulfil the eligibility criteria and submit a synopsis after successfully qualifying for the Kerala Ph.D. Entrance Exam.

Kerala PhD Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates must have completed their postgraduate degree with a Grade ‘B’ on the UGC 7-point scale (Or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) with not less than 55% marks OR an equivalent degree from a foreign educational institution
  • Candidates must have successfully passed the entrance test conducted by this University or UGC/CSIR /ICAR/ICMR or GATE or any State or University Level Eligibility Test conducted by the Kerala Government or Fellowship awarded by the Central and State Govt. Departments/Agencies

Ques. Who is exempt from the Kalam Technical University's Ph.D. entrance exam?

Ans. Candidates who have received a CSIR or CBSE NET/JRF or have work experience of close to 7 years are exempted from the examination and must report directly to the interview.

Ques. What is the amount of the scholarship offered for the PhD program at KTU?

Ans. The University now awards 16 scholarships (worth INR 25000 per month) each year. The Directorate of Technical Education, Kerala will choose research scholars who are eligible for the Higher Education Scholarship offered by the Kerala government (worth INR 20,000 per month).

Ques. Can candidates who are awaiting their results apply to Kerala University's PhD program?

Ans. Yes, candidates who have taken and are awaiting their postgraduate degree examination may also apply. However, such applicants must submit their PG grades and/or CGPA information on or before the form's deadline.

Ques. Who is exempt from the PhD admissions test at Kerala University?

Ans. Candidates having UGC-NET/JRF, UGC-CSIR-NET/JRF, SLET recognised by UGC, GATE, and research fellowships of central and state government departments/agencies are exempt from the Ph.D. Entrance Tests as determined from time to time by the University.

Holders of teaching fellowships and M.Phil./Ph.D. degrees. Candidates awarded with DBT-JRF fellowships in the field of biotechnology and candidates with DST-INSPIRE fellowships are exempt from the Eligibility Test, but candidates who have earned an M.Phil in subjects other than those in which they wish to register for a Ph.D. would still need to clear it.

Ans. The staff members of Kerala University's Ph.D. program are knowledgeable and skilled, and they offer all the assistance and direction a student may need. To provide the students with the right guidance, all of the teachers have completed advanced degrees and research in their specialised disciplines.

Ans. There are four different categories of reserved seats:

Ques. What are the selection procedures for the MG University PhD admissions?

Ans.

  • The applicant must have passed the WAT exam.
  • Candidates who have earned UGC, CSIR, DST, national or state level fellowships, GATE, GPAT, SLET, NET, or M.Phil. awards are excluded from taking the Ph.D. entrance exam and are instead qualified to participate in the personal interview.
  • Candidates will be chosen based on their merit, which is calculated from their scores on the entrance exam, in the personal interview (PI), and their post-graduate examination.
  • Candidates who are selected must participate in a group discussion and an individual interview.
  • Candidates who have been chosen may enroll on the specified date.

They don’t consider money as the only source of happiness. And they know that a high-paying job will rob them of mental peace due to a lot of responsibilities they might not even enjoy. So they choose a happier and simpler part which is pursuing a Ph.D. Another major reason why people may pursue a Ph.D. rather than working at a top company is their strong inclination to words academics, and they may not be satisfied with a bachelor's degree and crave higher studies in the form of PhD. Basically, the reason behind such a decision is subjective and depends solely On the particular individual, and cannot be objectified.  The common reason why people make such a decision is that they have more interest in studies and doing a job would hinder that passion. Ans. PhD from IGNOU is as valuable as from any other university. The UGC has recently ruled that PhD from distance education is no longer valid. This is applicable to every university. PhD is valid only in regular mode. This can be both part-time or full-time. IGNOU offers both so yes PhD from IGNOU is valuable. Ans. Well, getting a Ph.D. from IISc is indeed difficult. In my opinion, the true meaning of a Ph.D. is investing your entire efforts, time, and knowledge in one specific region. In India though, Ph.D. is just considered a degree one can achieve by publishing some paper in some conference or journal. The quality of these papers is poor and substandard bringing down the sort of the degree.  However, IISc being a prestigious institute has managed to maintain the dignity and credibility of the degree so far. You need to prepare yourself for committing to hard work and high-level dedication. Know that your next 5-6 years will be spent proving and disproving every hypothesis possible and conducting infinite experiments. As a Ph.D. student, you will be publishing a few journals in top international forums and also writing your own thesis, which will culminate your entire work and present it before other researchers and professors of the institute. You will then be assessed thoroughly. Only after proving your point strongly and convincing them will you be able to get the degree.  During this whole time, you will face many struggles dealing with your PI and securing funds for your research work. Ques. How good is doing a PhD in BITS Pilani compared to IITs?

Ans. The mentors and research facilities at IITs are much better than at BITS Pilani. However, the passing process is as much more difficult at IITs.  BITS Pilani, on the other hand, is flexible to incorporate the changing scenario and a PhD from BITS Pilani is much more industry relevant. One of my cousins had a bad experience at BITS Pilani during his Ph.D. in the Mechanical branch. According to him, a large number of Ph.D. students in BITS Pilani drop out because of the intense pressure for producing results. PhD students are burdened with numerous tasks including the evaluation work for B.Tech. The saving grace for Ph.D. at BITS is that under a guide, your Ph.D. will be completed in 3 years like an MS from IIT. Considering my cousin’s experience, you should consult the alumni at BITS Pilani before choosing the institution for pursuing your Ph.D. Otherwise, BITS Pilani is a reputable institution and its Ph.D. degree will hold great relevance. More so, if you get the right mentors and the right facilities, the name tag of an institution becomes secondary.Read more
