Course Curriculum Overview

I chose this course because chemistry has way more job scopes than any other subject. In IISER Kolkata there are about 31 chemistry faculties is huge and the faculty:student ratio is quite good. Every faculty is highly qualified and has contributed a lot in research. But their teaching methods need to be improved. Exams are very frequent so you will have to prepare yourself each and every day.

Campus Life

There is no specified annual fest. If they wish they will do it otherwise there is no specific date as such. But celebrations are done on every occasion. There is a huge collection of books and journals in the library. The classrooms are great. Air-conditioned. The projector is also there. Many kinds of sports clubs are there. You can join any one of them.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure of the college is so that it can be feasible for each and every student as well as for the other departments like bioinformatics etc. The structure can be such that a middle-class student can easily study in the said course. The annual tuition fee for the one year is 15000 excluding other expenses like hostel fee, exam fee etc.

Admission

Form submission then entrance exam. Finally I was selected for the said course in M. Sc environmental science. Then I was able to know that there is nothing important than studying environmental science. The admission process was easy and every body can get easily enrolled in the course but if one can qualify entrance exam.

Placement Experience

This is truly a game played by many institutes in India now. Mostly software and IT companies were coming to recruit jobs. Irrespective of their education they will provide IT/BPO job offer to the candidate. CTS, TCS, etc. company will recruit most of them on campus. I have seen some students who given an offer letter by some MNC and waited 10 -12 months for the appointment even after the course completion.

Fee Structure And Facilities

At that time for science courses, the fee is feasible. I paid Rs. 30,000/- first year and 28,000/- second year. The private colleges charging 20,000 at the time (2004) so it is fine for paying 8,000/- more because of its infrastructure. But, for the engineering people they feel a bit costlier, 65,000/- (in the year 2004-06) and purchase laptop compulsory for IT and related courses (Rs.25,000/-).

Admission

Whole the course are conducted under Gauhati University. As the rules, mentioned for admission, students are selected based on there latest Bechelore degree examination marks. But, there may also student applied for admission from other University, and they have to appear in a written test for availing there seet. There are only 40 seet for mathematics and only 30 seet for Chemistry. There are also some extra rules of seet reservation for the Backward classes students, like Schedule Tribes(ST), Other backward class(OBC) etc. There are 10 percent seet reserved for ST students, 5 percent for ST students, 20 percent for OBC and the other seet for the General Category Students.

Campus Life

The male female student ratio is often medium 50-50 many kind of Workshop, like Students Aids Program, Job placement learning Program are hold in our college. There also also some extra program offer by iur college. such as NCC, NSS etc. Students of various religion and cast united in our college. All are united and helped each other. There are no any sexual problem, and to stop this a very good orientation program held economically, the college is not so reach or poor too there are some facilities required.
