Course Curriculum Overview

I will say I don't wanted this course but as I was now clear that I like physics and I had a chance of physics honours but I choosed the program where I studied all three physics, chemistry and maths. The awareness about the program is very low you got chance to find what you like and finally talking about the exam timing it was little strange bcz there were undisturbuted gap between them where gap wasn't needed it was there . It can be improved. The teaching methods were quite similar and traditional their.

Campus Life

The programs were very less in my course but overall there were good number festivals celebrated but it end up in a fight of religion. Access to books were pretty nice because of library. Technology was nill the labs were immensely flooded with defaults. computers never worked smoothly and lab apparatus were rusted. There were many Social group with their different idealogise Which I didn't like because they were only want attention and for which they create scenes.

Faculty

The faculty members at our college are a mix of experienced and approachable professionals. Some of them are highly knowledgeable and supportive, making the learning experience engaging and informative. The library is well-stocked with a good collection of books and resources, providing ample material for students to study and enhance their understanding. The course structure is well-designed to cover the core concepts, though it could benefit from more practical exposure in some areas. It allows for a decent level of flexibility, making it manageable for students. The exam system, while functioning adequately, tends to be a bit loose, with room for improvement in terms of rigor and fairness. However, it does provide students with a reasonable framework to showcase their understanding, and the marking scheme is generally fair, allowing most students to perform well if they put in consistent effort.

Fees and Financial Aid

I take admission in 1st year Bachelor's of science. The fees I paid is 29,700 for a year. I didn't got any type of scholarship. In my college there is no sc st reservation. The reservation which our college hold is of sikh minority. There are some scholarship which are for the students who scored good marks in 12th and are from poor family. My college holds the highest fees in the north campus. Although its a very good college and I like it very much.

Campus Life

The annual fest held in our college is called lashkara it held in the month of march. There are a wide range of books in our college library. Its the biggest library in the north campus. There is ac facility in all classrooms. Sports and extracurricular activities also held in college. Yes there is akso social groups clubs and student portals.

Fees and Financial Aid

The yearwise fees that I paid for my course i.e. B.Sc. Physical Sciences with Electronics is Rs.16613 . I belong to General category so I did not receive any concession. I am currently in first year so the amount that I mentioned earlier is the fees for first year of my course and it is the same for all students belonging to SC,ST,OBC,EWS,CW . For PwD students the fees for this course is Rs.125 . In second year the fees that I will ne paying will be Rs.15758 and this is the fees that all students belonging to General , OBC , EWS , SC , ST , CW category will have to pay. The fees will be Rs.120 for PwD students for second year. For third year also the fees will be same i.e. Rs.15758 for all categories except PwD . For PwD the fees will be again Rs.120 . So this is the fee structure for the course B.Sc. Physical Sciences with Electronics. And this is the one time fees that we have to pay each year so it consists all lab charges , caution charges , registration charges , development charges , admission charges. All my coursemates pay the same fees as me as there is no one in my class belonging to PwD category. The scholarship is based on annual income . If annual family income is less than 600000 the student will receive 25% scholarship , if annual family income is less than 400000 the student will receive 50% scholarship , if annual income is less than 200000 the student will receive 75% scholarship , if annual family income is less than 100000 the student will receive 100% scholarship.

Faculty

The faculty to student ratio at Ramjas College is 1:15 which is pretty good. The relationship between faculty and students is pretty good especially in theory classes. But in laboratory the lab teachers aren't really helpful. They expect us to know the experiment that we are going to perform beforehand. This causes a lot of problems for us as we need to watch the experiment on YouTube to perform it and we make a lot of mistakes while doing so. The faculty I like the most if Rekhna Dhiman Ma'am from Physics department. She teaches us Mechanics. She is very cool during class. She asks each and every student if they have any doubt or not . She makes us practice questions in class. She also provides us with practise questions so we do not have to surf the internet to find them. The faculty that I didn't like is Pawan Kumar sir only because he extends 1 hour class into a 4 hours long class that too on saturday. The exams are not very difficult but not easy as well so students are able to pass these exams if they even study 1 month prior to the exam. But still there are students who fail as they dont even study at all . It's like almost 8 in 100 students fail in each semester.

Mostly teachers are good and clear every concept in detail. Yes, I didn't liked few teachers because of their behaviour towards students. Teachers try their best to complete syllabus before the examination and take multiple tests for practice. There are many teachers I liked and learnt a lot like Sandeep Kumar Sir for Maths (Calculas) and Padma Dechan Mam for Chemistry and few teachers I didn't liked and I don't want to write their names because I don't want to insult them publicly. Our syllabus and level of exams is really easy and every average student can easily pass exams. Few students gets back in some subjects because of some reasons but I don't think that there is something about faculty or syllabus to fear about.

Fees and Financial Aid

For my course B.Sc Physical Science with Chemistry, first year fee is ? 26,700 and for second and third year, fee is ? 25,700. Fee is same for every category student. These fees contains all the extra charges like lab fees, admission fees, tuition fees etc. Yes, our college provides fee concession for below poverty students and also provide financial aid/scholarships. If you score 8+ CGPA, then you become eligible for the merit cum scholarships also. Yes, I will say that our college fees is more than compared to north campus colleges of Delhi University. But, if you scored low marks in CUET and didn't expecting to get a north campus college, then, Shyam Lal College is a great choice!

I got admission in this course by clearing cuet exam. I wanted to take admission in bsc chemistry hons but didn't get admission, but this course is also great. This course teaches my about physics and chemistry concepts which can easily be applied in real world. More marks should be given on the basis of theory exam as we get 45 percent marks on the basis of our internals and 55 percent on basis of theory marks only. I gave 7 exams in first and second year, in that math has 3 hours exam , chemistry and physics has 2 hours , DSE (optional) I took chemistry (only in second year) has 2 hours exam/ GE(optional) took in first year has 3 hours exam, SEC(OPTIONAL) has 1hour exam, AEC (HINDI/ EVS) has 1 hour 45 minutes exam, VAC ( optional) has 1 hour exam. Fee Structure is flexible and not so much high as there is approx 16000 rupees per yr for every year also there are some category benefits included at the time of scholarships. Scholarships may often 2 or 3 time once a year with certain terms and conditions in which students can participate and help themselves financially.

Faculty

As it is one of the biggest and reputed college in Delhi University and obviously the faculty is far better and supportive . There are regular theory and practical exams related to each semester and each exam is moderate to tough so that students don't do spoon feeding instead of this they aquire knowledge.

In both the course you will be study mainly 3 subjet. In first course you will study physics math and computer science and in other you will study physics maths and chemistry.

Faculty

Faculties are not that good here very like only 3-4 teachers are only have deep insights of subjects others are just like don't have deep knowledge in subject. If you are coming here for education don't come but if you need a bsc degree to go further then this college if for you.

Ques. How is the integrated MSc in physics at NIT Rourkela?

● Top Answer By Sriparna Banerjee on 14 Aug 23

Ans. I am well aware of the situation of NIT Rourkela Integrated MSc in Physics since my sister is a student there. She shared her horrible experience and does not recommend it to anyone at all. The faculty pool comprises underqualified professors with zero experience and will to reach. They are unapproachable and don’t pay heed to the students' doubts. The curriculum is very rigid and students are offered no flexibility in choosing their electives. Rather they are forced to choose subjects that are only relevant to experimental physics. Students are required to get the signature of the Faculty Advisor, HOD, Asst. Registrar, and Dean even for the smallest official work.  The place limits your talents and ambitions so much that all your dreams and talents will be crushed. My sister regrets wasting 5 precious years on this course and advises everyone to refrain from joining it.Read more

Ques. What is the standard of the Integrated M.Sc. in Physics at NIT Rourkela?

● Top Answer By Ashish Kumar on 14 Aug 23

Ans. Irrespective of the branch and curse you are getting, IITs and NITs have proved their value time and again through the innumerable opportunities and qualitative education they offer. Integrated MSc in Physics is a great option for all the Physics lovers out there. Here are a few key highlights pertaining to the program Students completing this course get a number of higher studies opportunities. The faculties are very cooperative and helpful. Their recommendations are very useful in grabbing the best opportunities abroad.  The standard of academics is average and students have to resort to self-study as the professors aren’t interested in teaching.  The placement scenario is great and the table below is proof of the same: Job Offers  17 Highest CTC INR 11.40 LPA Average CTC INR 5.97 LPA Median CTC INR 5 LPA Lowest CTC  INR 3.6 LPA Some of the top recruiters that have made decent offers to Integrated MSc students in the past include TCS, Mu Sigma, Aakash Institute, iBooks, etc. The final year is meant only for the research project so students can focus o pavement preparation or higher studies.  Overall. NIT Rourkela Integrated MSc in Physics is a great choice if you are interested in Physics and want to pursue an academic or research-oriented career in the same.Read more

Ques. How is the integrated physics MSC course at IIT Roorkee?

● Top Answer By Shruti Gupta on 12 Apr 23

Ans. Academically, the MSc Physics course at IIT Roorkee is dynamic. Some of the courses have repeated topics but for someone who is really into physics, the curriculum definitely suits his taste.  The research work conducted by the professors covers vast topics like string theory, theoretical high energy physics, quantum optics, fiber optics and lasers, nuclear physics, astrophysics, nano-materials, and condensed matter.  The lab facilities of this department are very lucrative for working with quantum optics, low-temperature superconductivity, functional materials, and lasers. The overall program lays more emphasis on experimental physics. The research enthusiasts get excellent research work in top research institutes during their summer internships which will enhance their learning experience tenfold. Students also get to visit famous places in India, Germany, the US, Australia, etc. and also publish great works. Some of the most common places include IISc, Bangalore, BARC, PRL, TIFR, IUCAA, SINP, and IIT in India whereas CERN, and Max Planck Institutes in Germany, Wisconsin, and Georgetown in the US amongst others.  Many consider the department a bit laid back with a less structured curriculum. However, real enthusiasts have been able to convert this weakness into strength by not solely relying on the curriculum but exploring much more. The Physics Journal Club and the number of papers published by students in PRD, PRL, MNRAS, CjP, etc. are a testament to that. Despite very less scope in India, IIT Roorkee has been able to carry Physics to a great extent. The program needs a little revision, only the ones who are truly Physics lovers can pursue this course.Read more

Ques. How is Fergusson College Pune for BSc in physics?

● Top Answer By Riya Sodhi on 28 Sept 21

Ans. If physics is your passion, and you genuinely want to learn, this is not the place for you. One of my friends studied here and these are some things he mentioned. The faculty is good but they have limited course material. You would not feel like you have learned much.  Most students take up physics in their final years because they know they can easily memorize the course material and pass. This is just so that they can improve their grades.  Mugging up theories is definitely not how someone can learn science.  They don’t have a real interest in the subject anyway and they would be your peers. The system at Fergusson is not great and you wouldn’t want to attend classes as it would not matter and you will pass your exams regardless. If you are only looking for a college life minus the studies and want to have some fun with fests and events, by all means, join Fergusson because marks and knowledge are secondary here.Read more

Ques. Why choose Calcutta University for a B-Sc. in physics?

● Top Answer By Saunak Gupta on 10 Dec 20

Ans. If one has the option to secure admission into Calcutta University for B.Sc in Physics they should immediately apply for it.  As compared to other universities that are based on research institutes and teaching is secondary to them, Calcutta university is different as they put emphasis on education and keep it a top priority.  It is one of the oldest universities and has matured with time. They have the best physics teachers and labs that are available in India. The course curriculum set by the college is tough and the marking pattern set by the faculty makes it difficult to score the marks making it stringent. But this is the best thing about the University as it prepares the student for further studies and makes them well aware of the competition. More information about the college is given below in a tabular form to make things clearer and understandable as to why choose Calcutta University for B-Sc physics. Ques. Which option is better, IIT Roorkee for geological technology or IIT Kharagpur for applied geology and exploration geophysics?

● Top Answer By Anumita Chatterjee on 23 Mar 23

Ans. There are many reasons why I will suggest you to go for IIT Kharagpur for applied geology and exploration geophysics. Some of these reasons include, Being an older IIT, IIT KGP has a much broader alumni base than Roorkee which in turn proves to be useful for higher education.  In case you lose interest in Core geology you are always open to sitting for non-core placements which are in abundance at IIT KGP because of the alumni network. The curriculum at IIT KGP is way better than Roorkee in the sense that it is rigorous and much more industry relevant than Roorkee. IIT KGP has good administrative support and one can get funded for conferences. Being an MSc course, you can avail INSPIRE Scholarship given that you have a good GPA. These points are more than enough of a deciding factor for you.Read more

Ques. Is Ramjas College better than ARSD College for pursuing a B.Sc in Physics hons general category?

● Top Answer By Arvind Sharma on 21 Jan 22

Ans. Ramjas is one of the best Science colleges in the country. Being a North campus it has its own benefits. A lot of events take place within the north campus which you will be aware of or be a part of if you take admission in any north campus college. Ramjas in terms of reputation, crowd quality, and exposure is much better than ARSD. It has got an incredible faculty and equally great infrastructure. It is one of the oldest colleges under DU hence has a lot of academic experience. If you seek a fulfilling college life, giving attention to both academics and extracurricular activities, Ramjas is the place for you. There are a lot of societies and clubs in Ramjas, students get enough exposure to explore their skills and talents and enhance them. They are lenient with attendance and also lets students submit an ECA for serious reasons. It will give a proper balance between academics and extracurriculars, here you get to focus on both of them equally. For Physics Honours Ramjas will be the perfect choice.Read more

Ques. Which of these is better in IIT Kanpur: BSC in Chemistry/Physics, Earth Science, Biological Science or Engineering?

● Top Answer By Vidhita Kapoor on 24 Apr 23

Ans. It depends on what you are interested in and what career you want to pursue. My personal suggestion would be to make IIT Delhi your first preference. First, if you are a civil services aspirant, get admission into IIT Delhi in any branch and prepare for UPSC through the various coaching institutes available. If you are somehow not able to make it into IIT Delhi, then invest another year preparing for JEE and aim for a higher rank. Once you are able to make it into IIT Kanpur, again you need to work hard for one year to get a branch change into Civil. You will be competing with geniuses from CS and ME but keep yourself motivated. A CPI of 7+ will make it possible to get a branch change. Attend your classes regularly, complete your assignments on time and you are good to go. Lastly, if you are unable to change your branch, go for pure sciences like Physics, Chemistry, BSBE, or Earth Science. Out of these Physics and chemistry have a heavy workload and it will be tough to cope with your batchmates. BSBE has pathetic placements. Another option is Earth Sciences which in my opinion is the best considering the light workload and job opportunities. The average CPI is lesser than other branches and most of its courses overlap with Civil Engineering. Basically, Earth Sciences is equivalent to Civil Engineering just without the Engineering element.Read more
