The campus is known for it's gorgeous gothic style old-victorian infrastructure, which is the primary attraction for this college, as it is one of the oldest Autonomous Jesuit institutes in Mumbai.
The students that you will meet here, come from good backgrounds, as the admission system is highly merit based and does not discriminate based on class or caste. There are some percentages of quotas, but still the college is quite inclusive to all.
The teaching faculty is also very excellent in my experience, the department of Sociology and Psychology is the best in this college. The coursework one has to do in Xavier's is quite rigorous and demanding but also rewarding at the same time.
Dislikes
One thing I despise is the attendance system. It is a very strict 75% mandatory attendance, and failure to comply can cause you to get debarred from exams. While it does make students more regular with their attendance, it can often become taxing.
The canteen food, although delicious, has had several health code violations in the past from the sighting of a rat in the canteen kitchen, to a cockroach being found in a sandwich. And the management still refuses to take any measures to prevent it.
There are a lot of entitled and privileged students from South Bombay, who bring with them an unsavoury attitude, which makes them the most popular but also the most hated on campus. Also in my course which is Sociology there are not a lot of boys.
Course Curriculum Overview:
The curriculum is very well balanced in terms of relevance to current world topics. In the case of sociology I don't think it prepares you for real world jobs as the Sociology curriculum is very theory based and it doesn't teach a lot of real world applications, but it does thoroughly prepare you for further academic pursues such as purse using your masters in a different country. They teach you to write complex thesis and dissertations which are necessary skills to know.
The teaching methods could be improved and a lot of teachers could work on the feedback that they received from the Student feedback forms, as several of the teachers are not good at engaging the students during lectures and often make them fall asleep.
The frequency and timing of exams is pretty balanced, the difficulty is also just right but the marking system could be a bit more lenient.
College canteen is for sure one main attraction as it has variety of diverse food for outstation students
College library is always occupied and used for study purposes and has a lot of collections which are rare and according to the students the library resembles hogwarts and is one of the main attraction for outstation students .
Malhar is one the main fest of our colllege which is also one of the main college fest that happens once in a year and students across Maharashtra attends the fest and the participation ,performance is a very big deal.
Dislikes
Attendance is very strict as for every semester we have to fulfill a target of 75% which according to the students is a very big deal as always the students will be participating in different college fest and many of them stay far from the college.
There is also an issue for dress code which is also a problem according to the students.
Placement Experience:
we can apply for placements during a third year and students without backlog are eligible to apply for the placements which are available in the college. The companies that visited our college during my third year are Deloitte KP MGJP Morgan EY and other multinational companies, the highest package that was offered to a Student in our college was 36,00,000 per annum and the average package was eight lakh and the percentage of students getting placed in our college is very high due to our excellence and knowledge. My plan after getting this degree to pursue masters in ancient history, and I'm also planning to go abroad to countries like Ireland, UK for my higher studies.
Campus is. very huge and beautiful, Academics, Faculty
Dislikes
Nothing as such only the canteen has too many non veg dishes as compared to the veg ones
Course Curriculum Overview:
I was very clear since the beginning that i wanted to pursue BA as i want to do B.Ed ahead so BA English would br of great help. The course curriculum is good other than some aspects like poetry, not many people have keen interest and it's a difficult paper to attempt and score
extracurricular activities thrive in this college- ILOVEIT
Dislikes
portion for exams is given late- a week before exams
professors may not adhere to the curriculum
the exams timetable is made randomly, so you may not have gaps between papers
Placement Experience:
For mass media especially, there's few to no placements but it's easy to find your own placement if you flaunt your course and the soft skills that they equip you with. Internships are something that for mass media courses the college is keen on, they've also made it a part of the marking system.
The faculty is very good at their subjects and very approachable.
The extra curricular activities is extensive and fun and even compulsory which helps us improve our talents .
We have social involvement programs where we have to work in orphanages etc to gain more exposure
Dislikes
The dress code is extremely strict and unnecessary
The class timings are a little hard to manage
Often bombarded with a lot of work at the same time making the schedule really hectic.
Course Curriculum Overview:
Some aspects of the curriculum that influenced my decision to choose this course is my intrest in the subject and also the efficiency of the faculty in Xavier's . The curriculum is very practical based and helps us for real world applications and offers internships that prepares us for the corporate world . Sometimes the timings of the course are hard to cope up with . The only improvement could be in the timings and the hectic schedule.
The faculty is very approachable and helpful. You can always write a mail if you have any doubts regarding literally anything!
Dislikes
The first year degree college timings are a little odd due to NEP, but later you get used to it
Student aren’t allowed to use the elevator and must use stairs only 😭
Course Curriculum Overview:
I'm studying History and Archaeo and I'm interested in that field. The methods used for teaching are PPTs, Showing us various archaeological structures in our very own college museum, etc. The timing and syllabus for exams is based on what the professors teach and they prepare us well for it
College has an amazing campus to click pics and capture memories from iconic Indian Bollywood movies
lots of extra curricular activities to choose from
Dislikes
Inconsiderate staff . Only care when the declare high alert rain fall in the fort area
College timings are only made suitable for the people who they consider have a better and more important course
New education policy making lives miserable for student
Student Snaps:
Course Curriculum Overview:
My course wasnt my first choice at all. I was kinda pushed into that direction. But sociology/ anthropology department is the best department. Amazing teaching staff and with relevance to curriculum; very systematic and very thorough. Amazing job with reference to connect the portion with today's times. Teachers go out of their way to make the subject more engrossing and understanding.
The college is unique for its dynamic group of students, experienced faculty and the exposure provided by the atmosphere in the college. The extra curricular activities and the social involvement programme are special attractions which help the students to gain new skills during the academic course. The beautiful architecture gives a special ambience and adds to the beauty of the institution.
It is one of the top colleges for arts and it's autonomous. It's got a great faculty and lot of opportunities for self advancement. I applied for psychology as it was something I was interested in and the syllabus was really holistic.
The vibe, ambience and the people in this college make it the college it is. It's literally a way of life. The exposure that the college provides is world apart and I was drawn because of that. Also the various fests, activities, ECC, SIP programmes help us reach newer potentials. The different committees also boost the morale and help the students develop a niche for themselves.
