Voices of St. Andrew’s Mumbai : Student Experiences

Aaron Dias, a student of the St. Andrew's College, Mumbai B.Com Accounting & Finance program of the 2024 batch, gives an authentic and reflective view on student life and academic studies. Aaron enjoys the warmth and guidance of the teaching staff, pointing out that professors are very much interested in the development of students and work diligently to impart detailed knowledge in their area of specialization. He also mentions the even gender distribution and the multiplicity of students, which make for a vibrant and interactive campus life.

Student's Review

Alternatively, Aaron mentions a couple of issues for students, particularly those who study in self-financed programs, like busy lecture timetables, which can mentally exhaust them. He further expresses concern regarding the absence of a lift, which is problematic for students climbing up to higher floors of the building. Moreover, he reports a small hygiene problem with birds around water filters, although this appears to be more of an issue about campus maintenance.

In spite of these limitations, Aaron appreciates the course curriculum, especially the way it reconciles the old accounting with newer subjects such as the stock market, data analysis, and advanced Excel skills under the new NEP framework. He also recognizes the internships that banks and multinationals offer, stipulating that students who are well trained and informed can do well in getting a good placement.

St Andrew’s Mumbai FAQs

Ques. Suppose I miss the first merit list?

Ans. Don't worry - several merit lists are published, usually in gaps of 3–5 days. If your name is not included in the first list, you can wait for the second, third, or even the last list. It's important to visit the college website frequently, and when your name comes up, you have to hurry by paying the fee and uploading your documents to confirm your admission. Seats are allocated on a first-confirmed-first-allocated basis, and hence, dawdling can cost you your seat.

Ques. Why is the E-Cell different?

Ans. The E-Cell is a mini-startup incubator within the campus. It is not only event-driven but assists students in molding business concepts, interacting with startup mentors, and even taking part in investor-like pitch competitions. It gathers students from various streams to work together on real-world projects.

Ques. In what ways does the college assist self-financed course students?

Ans. Self-financed courses such as BMS, BAF, and BBI have specific academic timetables and teachers. The students are mentored, provided with workshop facilities, and given internship support to enable them to manage the rigorous curriculum. The college also incorporates practical sessions as well as guest lectures to support the syllabus and prepare students for actual work.

Ques. What documents are needed during admission?

Ans. The documents needed are:

  • Class 10 & 12 mark sheets
  • Pre-enrollment form (from Mumbai University)
  • School leaving certificate
  • Caste/religion certificate (if required)
  • Recent passport-sized photos
  • Identity proof (Aadhaar/PAN)

All attested copies and originals have to be submitted for authentication at the counseling or admission stage.

A nice decent college in mumbai for commerce

Academic structure and curriculum in the campus

Its good i would say not that great . The curriculum is by the mumbai university as its a non autonomous college, so its not that great you know. Teaching methods should be changed more out of textbook should be taught not only from the textbook. The frequency and timings of exams is good

Yearly fees of the course and scholarship

The year wise fees us approximately 21500 INR , the fees is same for all the students despite of yhe categories. There are many svholarships avaialabe which you can know by visiting the college or theri official website

Various fest and infrastructure of the campus

The fest like mosaic, new year ball etc are held in December and January mostly. The library is huge here, they have a huge collection of books they also have daily newspapers so students can be updated, The classroom doesnt have that much anything special, its just simple , they have fans and a projecter and wooden benches , they dont gave cameras in the classrooms , outside in the lobhies cctv are there. Sports facilities are available here they have there own basketball court. They also have a lot of trophies which are displayed in lobby. There are many student runned groups and committees which keep on conducting small amd fun events in the college

Faculty and examination pattern of the college

The faculty to student ratio is quite good i would say, some of the faculties are good , and some dont bother to answer your question ,they will tell you that you are dumb you dont know that and this .i liked the audit faculty in sem 1 , he was good in teachings and humble with his students and was always there to clear the doubts. There is 1 exam on end of every semester, and internals are conducted within the semesters , there are total 6 semesters. Mostly all the students get passed, only few get a kt. They are no5 that difficult if you study throughout the semester regularly.

What is the admission process of the campus?

Actually i wanted to go to narsee minjee college u had my 11th and 12th there only . But didnt get as cut off was high even when i had gujarati minority. I also got in hinduja wilson bhavans , i chose this college as one my of good friend took admission here. There was no exam for my course , it was purely based on 12th marks , admission process was good and simple

Night Life

There is a cafeteria in a college ehich have good food options the taste is nice The college doesn't stay open till late night it closes till 6 or 7. However within a short distamce there is mac donalds , kfc and other famous food options where students can go and enjoy.

I applied for a variety of College, including the KC College as well as the Ruia College. I couldn't land there because of the shortage of percentage in my SSC exam. However, I did not plan changing my college in the degree, because I was already comfortable in this. College has significant prose as compared to other colleges in the area. Although although the college might see less in physical space, compared to the Rizvi college, it fulfil this negative with the quality of staff and crowd. The college admission basically takes place through the centralised administration process of the Maharashtra board. The degree college admissions happened with CET and other admission examinations. There also exist a management quota where one can be admitted through donations. There is ample of seat available in various courses.

I chose St. Andrew’s College of Hotel Management because it offered a great balance of quality education, affordable fees, and excellent placement opportunities. Compared to other colleges like IHM Mumbai and WGSHA Manipal, which have high cutoffs and intense competition, St. Andrew’s had a more accessible admission process. It also provided modern infrastructure and proximity to home in Pune, which was a big advantage. Although I was rejected by IHM Mumbai and WGSHA due to tough cutoffs and limited seats, St. Andrew’s turned out to be the perfect fit. The admission process included an entrance test, Class 12 merit, and a personal interview, with reasonable cutoffs ensuring accessibility. Overall, St. Andrew’s offers a well-rounded curriculum, practical learning opportunities, and strong industry connections, making it an excellent choice for my hospitality career.

I applied here at the time of Covid and this was the first college I got in. I did not wait for other college lists and just enrolled in this one because everything was affected during Covid and we had no idea what would happen next. I continued in this college simply because I was used to it and didn't want to bother going to a new place. The admission process is quite easy I would say. Eligibility critera as a general category would require you to score above 80% in your boards to get into the first and second list. For my course there is no entrance, most courses in the college are merit based. Admission proxess went by smoothly for me, you just have to go in for verification once and everything else is pretty much online.
