How good is Haldia Institute Of Technology?

Vaani PathakStudied at Haldia Institute of Technology

Haldia Institute of Technology had a glorious past, marked with excellent placement and achievements of students in various fields. But, at present, it is not in a good state. Considering most reviews, it is not an institute recommended for students.

The points below give a brief overview of the institute:

  • There are reviews about Haldia Institute of Technology stating its huge campus and great campus life. But, when placement is concerned, students are mostly unsuccessful in getting their dream jobs.
  • Considering the past success rate of students, most of them received no support from the college in their hard work. There was no contribution of the institute in its placement, and the alumni would have achieved their goals elsewhere too.
  • The training and placement cell is not at all dedicated to their work of pitching various companies to conduct recruitment drives in the institute.
  • The labs are in a bad condition and had a lack of necessary equipment in them. The institute focuses on beautifying the campus with plants and decorations, rather than investing in building proper machinery for technical works.
  • The brightest students of branches like CSE and IT are placed in mass recruiting companies like TCS and Wipro, which clears the fact that placements are lacking.

The points above may be disappointing for new aspirants, but this is the truth. There are several much better institutes which candidates should opt for. You should go to colleges in big cities, which usually have better exposure, surrounded by corporations.

You can use their free time a lot better in those institutes, developing their skill set. Even though the core branches in HIT can be somewhat considered, CSE and IT are not at all recommended.

What's wrong with Haldia Institute of Technology?

Anuradha PriyadarshanB.Tech Computer Science Engineering,Haldia Institute of Technology (2020)

My brother is a recent graduate from Haldia Institute of Technology and as per his experience, there are many things that should not happen at the institute, the way they are happening right now.

  • According to the placement statistics, the percentage of students placed from the institute through on-campus recruitment drives is only 50%.
  • Haldia Institute faces difficulty in connecting with mass recruiting firms like TCS, Accenture, Wipro, for on-campus recruitment of the students enrolled in the various UG and PG programs at the institute.
  • The teaching style followed by most of the faculty members is quite degressive and they should learn some new tactics to make the studies more engaging.
  • The administration and concerned authorities do not maintain proper relations with the alumni of the institute which would surely prove to be disadvantageous for the institute in the long run.

These were a few of the aspects about the Haldia Institute of Technology that were considered to be wrong. The institute should work upon these aspects for the betterment of students.

How is Haldia Institute of Technology good for CSE?

Ankita Sarkar
Mihir TanejaStudied B.Tech Civil Engineering, Haldia Institute of Technology (2012)

One of my friends completed his B.tech from the Haldia Institute of technology so, it would be easy for me to answer your question.

  • Among all the colleges in West Bengal, Haldia Institute of Technology has the best campus life. Moreover, the hostel life is one such life that everyone should experience.
  • If you are good at extracurricular activities, then this college has a lot to provide. An annual tech fest is organized at campus.
  • Being a state-level engineering college, you shouldn’t expect a lot from it. You may not receive well-furnished labs and all sorts of comfort which includes average teachers.
  • Placement opportunities are also decent with job roles in reputed IT companies. Even if you are an average student in your studies, you will get a campus placement.

You can experience a diverse college environment as you will see every type of student on the campus. At the end of the day, it’s on you, how you really want to be and which group really suits you.

How is the CSE department at Haldia Institute of Technology? What about its faculty and placement in recent times?

Himani RoyB.Tech (IT) from Haldia Institute of Technology (2019)

Haldia Institute of Technology will be of no help to you if you dream to be the best at coding and be proud of yourself as a CSE graduate in the future.

  • When it comes to placement, it is good. But, if you consider your learning and look at the knowledge that you acquire in four years, you will not be satisfied.
  • Teaching is an art and most of the teachers lack this art at HIT. And, the rest are average. One of my friends attended HIT. During his time, the algorithm which is one of the most important topics was taught by a well-qualified professor. But, due to a lack of the art of teaching, the students lost interest in the subject.
  • Lab classes are under par. The lab assistant throws tantrums as if he is the dean of the college. Also, most of the teachers are alumni of the college. You won’t find the academic environment very encouraging.
  • No exposure. Even if it has been more than 15 years of the establishment of the college, it has failed to foresee Wipro, TCS, Infosys, CTS, and Tech Mahindra. This is quite unfair to the students who deserve more.
  • The CSE department has talented students but the teachers, who shape these minds don’t put in the required effort.

Despite all these, the students have made it to fortune 500 companies such as SAP Labs, Broadcom, Intel Security, Manhattan Associates. All the credits go to their hark-work and sheer determination.

College gives you a degree, it is you who with your hard work and determination, will make a great CSE graduate.

Sudeshna KhannaStudied B.Tech from Haldia Institute of Technology (2020)

I have heard about the welcoming culture of Haldia Institute Technology from my friend. His first day of college was quite amazing. It usually included allotment of hostel rooms and introduction with roommates.

During your 1st day at the college, an orientation session will be conducted wherein general information will be shared by seniors and faculty. My friend was assigned a mentor who helped him around the campus and took him to the Department.

After 1st day, a usual schedule will begin at the college. You will have regular lectures in the morning and fun activities in the evening. You might feel a little bored with this routine but you will love the campus.

Is there a uniform in Haldia Institute of Technology?

Vishal SinghB.Tech Information Technology,Haldia Institute of Technology (2021)

According to my friends studying at Haldia Institute of Technology, yes there is a uniform code. You may feel a bit disappointed after knowing that you will have to wear a uniform to go to college, but the uniform keeps on changing.

  • Earlier the uniform was changed every 4 years but now there are three different uniforms for freshers, 2nd & 3rd year and for the seniors.
  • The dress code for 4th-year students is navy blue pants with blue & white stripes shirts along with a tie.
  • For 2nd & 3rd year students, the dress code is black pants with red + deep blue + yellowish cream-colored striped shirt along with a tie.
  • For the freshers, the dress code is black pants with pink & white colored shirts along with a tie.
  • The freshers will be provided with uniforms within 2 months since the commencement of their semester. Till then, you can wear formal clothing.

Hence, there is a rule of wearing a uniform to the college for every student. But currently, there are three different uniforms provided to freshers, seniors and 2nd & 3rd-year students. And you will have to wear your assigned uniform every day without any excuses.

What is management quota fees in Haldia Institute Technology for CSE?

Shrayashee RoyB.Tech Mechanical Engineering ,Haldia Institute of Technology (2019)

Information regarding management quota fees is not disclosed by the institute. However, according to some of my friends who acquired admissions in the institute through it, the fees of management quota are around 2 lacs- 2.5 lacs.

The management quota fees are dependent on your negotiator, agent, consultant too. The above-mentioned amount does not include the hostel fees. It is at the time of college fees payment that the students are required to pay the hostel fees. You should consult with your seniors as they have a better knowledge regarding such matters. Although they would suggest that it would be a waste of money.

If you are interested in software, only then you should take admission at Bangalore. A few esteemed software companies such as Wipro, Infosys, etc. visit for the recruitment process.

The chemical branch at the institute is terrific. You should look into this course once as well. Your decision is concerned with building your career therefore make sure you opt for a course that would not make you have regrets later.

What would be better, Haldia Institute of Technology or Techno India Saltlake?

Aakash RoyB.Tech Computer Science, Haldia Institute of Technology (2021)

Haldia Institute of Technology is the better choice of the two due to the following reasons.

Infrastructure: (Winning Institution - HIT)

Infrastructure wise Haldia Institute of Technology is better than Techno India.

  • HIT boasts of a 37-acre campus. They have separate hostels for students of different years of study. The hostel rent too is cheaper when compared to Techno India and provides all the facilities needed for a student.
  • The campus comprises many sports facilities both indoor and outdoor games along with a gym. There are basketball courts and volleyball courts inside the hostel. It has a field for football and a building with indoor game facilities like table tennis and carrom.
  • The classrooms are not air-conditioned but very specious.
  • The campus has Xerox shops, general stores, canteens for the convenience of the students.
  • The cost of living in Haldia is lower. You can make a comfortable living with 5,000 per month.

  • HIT has good faculty and well-equipped labs on the campus. The HIT has the best lab facilities available among the colleges under WBUT.
  • Academics are taken quite seriously. Students start to prepare for GATE, CAT from their 3rd year. The college assists in preparing the students for competitive exams which is very useful.
  • The Professors and Lab Assistants are helpful and friendly.

Fees:(Winning Institution - HIT)

HIT charges a total fee of 3.61 lakhs for its 4-year engineering programs. The fee structure is cheaper when compared to other WBUT colleges.

Student Life: (Winning Institution - HIT)

  • The HIT has many cultural fests such as Riviera that takes place for 4-5 days. The college also conducts Techfest called Prayukti.
  • There are various competitions for Robotics, paper presentation, video games like FIFA, Counter-Strike.
  • The students of the campus are crazy about Counter-Strike. You will hear game sounds late at night. The campus stays awake till 3-4 am in the morning and students go out to grab midnight snacks before they get some sleep. The campus life is peaceful and full of life.

Placements:(HIT~TI)

Placement wise both the college is in par with each other.

  • Both colleges have many IT organizations such as TCS, Infosys, Wipro, IBM, Tech Mahindra, etc visiting their campus and recruiting students.
  • When it comes to core job opportunities both the colleges have limited scope and it is up to the student to perform well and prove his abilities.

HIT has a good student crowd and you will learn a lot from your peers. HIT is the better choice as it has a good diversity of students and helps in shaping a student’s life as a whole. However, you should do your own research to choose one of these two institutes.
