GCECT Ph.D. FAQs
Ques. When was the in-house Ph.D. programme in Ceramic Technology started at GCECT?
Ans. GCECT introduced its in-house Ph.D. programme in Ceramic Technology in 2023. Prior to this, GCECT faculty and students collaborated with external institutions like Jadavpur University, Calcutta University, and CGCRI for Ph.D. research. The in-house programme now allows students to pursue their Ph.D. directly under GCECT/MAKAUT.
Ques. What are the research areas available for Ph.D. in Ceramic Technology at GCECT?
Ans. The Ph.D. Ceramic Technology programme at GCECT covers research areas including Waste Material Utilization and Characterization, Tribomechanical Characterization of Materials, Glass Technology, Refractories, Whiteware/Tiles/Insulators/Sanitaryware, Metal-Ceramic Composites, Textile-Ceramic Composites, Nanoceramics, Bioceramics and its Applications, Advanced Ceramics, and Cement and Concrete-based Materials.
Ques. Can B.Tech Ceramic Technology graduates apply for Ph.D. at GCECT?
Ans. Yes, B.Tech graduates in Ceramic Technology or related disciplines can apply for the Ph.D. programme at GCECT. However, they must appear in the written Research Entrance Test (RET) and the enrolment interview. M.Tech/M.E. graduates with GATE/NET/SLET qualifications are exempt from RET.
Ques. What is the scope of Ph.D. in Ceramic Technology from GCECT?
Ans. Ph.D. graduates in Ceramic Technology from GCECT can pursue careers in research organisations like CGCRI, DRDO, BARC, and ISRO, as well as in academia. The specialised nature of the programme and GCECT's strong industry connections make graduates highly sought after in the ceramics, refractories, glass, and advanced materials sectors.
Ques. Does GCECT have research collaborations for Ph.D. in Ceramic Technology?
Ans. Yes, GCECT has active research collaborations with CGCRI (Central Glass and Ceramic Research Institute), Jadavpur University, Calcutta University, Presidency University, Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, Curtin University (Australia), Petronas University (Malaysia), and Northern University (Saudi Arabia). These collaborations provide Ph.D. scholars with access to advanced research facilities and international exposure.
Ques. What GATE paper should I appear in for Ph.D. Ceramic Technology at GCECT?
Ans. For Ph.D. Ceramic Technology at GCECT, candidates should ideally appear in GATE papers such as Metallurgical Engineering (MT) or Chemical Engineering (CH). Candidates with M.Tech in Ceramic Technology who have a valid GATE score are exempt from RET. Students should verify the accepted GATE papers from the official GCECT/MAKAUT admission notice for the relevant year.
