The Nil Ratan Sircar Medical College (NRSMC) 2024 placement data shows how many students got jobs or chose higher studies after finishing their courses.

In the UG (MBBS) course, 250 students passed out in 2024. 166 students were placed, and 84 students went for higher studies. The placement rate was 66.4%, and the median salary was ₹6,00,000, which is the same as the last two years. But the number of students placed has been falling each year, from 186 in 2022 to 166 in 2024.

In the PG (MD/MS) course, 119 students graduated in 2024. Out of these, 80 were placed, and 39 went for higher studies. The placement rate was 67.2%, and the median salary was ₹8,50,000, which also remained the same in the last three years.

Overall, the NRSMC placement data shows that while placement numbers have gone down slightly, more students are now going for higher education.

"Placement is similar to any government college in West Bengal under WBUHS. You get around ₹30,000 per month during your internship, and this can go up to ₹40,000 if you do a housestaffship after completing your MBBS degree. During MD/MS, you can earn ₹60,000 or more, depending on your branch, such as medicine or surgery, and that depends on your NEET PG/NEXT rank. Our college hospital provides a 1-year internship with a monthly stipend of ₹29,000. Government medical colleges in West Bengal offer one of the highest stipends in the country. However, the internship can be hectic in some departments." A student who rated the NRSMC placements 4 stars in their Collegedunia review posted in 2024 shared. Read the full review

Ques. How are the internship opportunities at NRSMC?

Ans. Nil Ratan Sircar Medical College and Hospital (NRSMC) offers a one-year compulsory internship for MBBS students. All students get internships at the NRSMC hospital, which has departments like cardiology and neurology. Interns work in various medical fields, gaining hands-on experience. The internship includes ward duties and practical training. A monthly stipend is provided during the internship. The hospital’s high patient load ensures good learning opportunities. Internships are managed by the college and are part of the MBBS program. Students must complete the internship to get their degree.

Ques. What types of roles do students usually get placed in from MD and MS courses?

Ans. MD and MS graduates from Nil Ratan Sircar Medical College and Hospital (NRSMC) usually get roles like medical officers, housestaff, or junior doctors in hospitals. Some work in government or private hospitals in specialties like general medicine, surgery, pediatrics, or orthopedics. Others join research institutes or teaching roles in medical colleges. Many pursue super-specialty courses like DM or MCh. Graduates can also start private practice with their license. Most roles involve patient care, diagnostics, or surgery, depending on their specialization.

Ques. What are the most common recruiters at NRSMC?

Placement Experience:

Since it is a Medical College, one year internship in the various wards and OPDs of the hospital is mandatory for all. After that, MBBS degree is provided and the Dr. can officially apply for any private and public hospital, with relatively very high rates of recruitment. Overall experience of internship is extremely tiring. Since it is the busiest government hospital in West Bengal, the workload during internship is immense (90+ hrs a week is common), even more so during the holiday season. Every day, interns handle atleast 100-200 patients, depending on the department. We receive a stipend of ?23,000/month.
