- The campus environment is really nice, specially the library where I feel more peaceful
- Professors are mostly helpful but sometimes they reply very late and its bit annoying
- Coursework is kind of heavy but if you study ok then it makes sense
Dislikes
- Sometimes the tuition fees feels too high compare to the facilities
- Academic advisors reply very slow, sometime not even same week
- Parking is very limited and expensive also, make it hard for students
Campus Life
- IIT Chicago has basically one main campus in downtown Chicago, very close to the city center
- The campus has a library, computer labs, sports facilities, a small gym, a cafeteria, a health center… all the basic things you need
- The library is good with study space and digital resources, but sometimes seating is limited in peak time
- Sports facilities are okay, basketball court, small gym, a few outdoor fields, not super big, but enough for students
- The campus organizes a few major events: the annual tech fest, cultural fest, hackathons, and career fairs
- Clubs are also there, like coding club, robotics club, debate club, photography club, dance/music groups
- Some student orgs also help with volunteering, community service, and networking events
- Extracurriculars are a mix of sports, cultural events, and workshops… You can join any based on interest
- Fests are fun, Tech Fest has competitions, hackathons, coding challenges, prizes… very interactive
- The cultural fest has music, dance, food stalls… a lot of students participate and enjoy
- Clubs are mostly student-run, and you can learn leadership and teamwork through them
- Sometimes, guest lectures from industry people or alumni are also organized, which helps in learning outside the classroom
- Overall, campus life is good, not very big but interactive, and you meet people from different countries
- Some events can be crowded but overall enjoyable, which helps break the monotony of studies
- Few students stay busy with studies and internships, so participation depends on your schedule
Fees
- The fee structure honestly a little confusing at first, but overall, tuition was the main big amount
- My full course tuition was around high amount per credit, so the total went somewhere near 32–35 credits, depending on classes
- I didn’t take it because it's too costly, but on-campus housing is normally around 1200–1500 per month, which is quite high
- There were some extra charges also, like student activity fee, health insurance, library fee, etc, which added a few hundred more every semester
- Fees are mostly credit-based, as you pay for how many credits you register each semester
- Some semesters become heavy if you take more subjects because the credit fee multiplies
- Monthly expense in Chicago is not cheap… for me, around 1100–1400 USD monthly, totally
- Rent alone comes like 700–900 (if shared room), single room even more
- Transportation around 60–80 if you take the CTA pass, sometimes Uber, etc, makes it more
- Grocery around 150–200, depending on how you eat. If you eat outside, then more expensive
- Phone bill is like 25–35, internet sometimes included, sometimes not
- Small things like laundry, coffee, random stuff also add like 30–50
- Overall, managing expenses is a little tough at the start, but after some time, you understand the pattern
- Tuition fee hits the hardest because every semester payment feels heavy
- But compared with other colleges, IIT is still kinda manageable if you plan properly

Likes
- The college is in the almost at the heart of city of Chicago with just 10 mins or , just 2 metro station away in the green line.Commute is superb as the green line station is within the campus , red line and one metra station is just few steps away. Bus No. 29 also takes you to downtown. You can see the blue waters of lake michigan from IIT Tower. The college offers University pass to travel to anywhere in the city.
- The college provided me 6000USD scholarships for continuos first 2 semesters (total of 12000 USD) makes a no brainer why not to choose it. The college even organised a complete orientation /presentation back in India to clear our doubts and a very lavish lunch in a 5 star hotel.
- Most of the interantional students lives in Prarie shores and Lake Meadows apartments which is just 15-20 mins walk away from college and are unarguably provides the cheapest and the largest accomodations to indians living in the city. Almost 10000 indians live here Indian shop and Jewel osco is on a walking distance.
Dislikes
- Campus is small so on campus oppurtunities are lesser comparatively so please plan/contact early to all the relevant IIT staff from the first day of your college.
- Since it is a private university, so reseacrh oppurtunities are less. I personally was interested to come here to do reseacrh under Prof. Mustafa Bilgic and Gady Agam, But I ended up none.
- I was over expecting from career services to place me in a job similar to placement cells in Bachelors back in India. but they just guide to explore the options to reach out to recruiters and build a linkedin profile.
Campus Life

- ISA used to organise Ganesh Puja, Diwali, graba, Holi, Bollywood night, etc. Other than that, we have a weekly Isckon event for enlightenment, meditation and dinner, etc. There are other events occurring every biweekly in college halls by different groups.
- You can join fraternity clubs, or you can join startup clubs, either. I was part of the Isckon club and ML tech club, a football or other sports club. You can even start your own club by registering at the college office.

- Our university has four campuses. The main campus is in Mies Campus, which is located in Bronzeville, Chicago. Second is The Conviser Law Centre in downtown Chicago, which hosts Chicago-Kent College of Law and business-related graduate programmes. Third is The Rice Campus in Wheaton, which focuses on information technology and management programmes, particularly for working professionals. Lastly Lastly, the Moffett Campus in Bedford Park is dedicated to food safety and health research, housing the Institute for Food Safety and Health. All the facilities are available, such as a swimming pool, zumba classes, a gym, a badminton court, a volleyball court, a library, an interview room and a library space room for group discussion. - Tuition fees were $33,294, Living expenses were $15,790, and health insurance is 1,973 so the total is $51,057. As I got a scholarship of $12,000 each semester, I had to pay less in fees. Cost estimation: if you are living in a shared room, then the minimum it will go for is $400, and utilities are like $110 per month and internet is $12 each and for transportation, if you take a travel pass from college for 3 months, it is $158 for unlimited travel and for groceries, it will go for above like $75, plus depending upon one's needs.

In University try to be as active as possible this will prepare you for what's coming in future for you. Try to focus on what you are interested in apart from what others are doing.
Campus Life
Campus had recreational center for daily extracurricular activities. We had Table tennis, snooker and other things to enjoy at international center.
Overview
Concentration on Technical facet of architecture, also a reputed college for Architectural Studies. It was headed by one of the most famous architects Mies Van Der Rohe who is known for his 'Less is More' philosophy.
Fees
Since it is a private institution, the fees are considerably higher. Around 1500$ approximately per credit. The fee is paid every semester and also attached are university transportation pass fees, college academic services fees as model shop fees. Since I am an architecture student, we had to use a lot of softwares like AutoCAD, Rhino, Revit, adobe photoshop, etc which are very expensive even for students. There is a small discount for students but it still is a lot. Also, architecture requires a lot of models to be constructed which require a lot of expensive materials.
Overview
I really liked the idea of a hands-on education that they were offering. There were many project-based courses that were required as part of the curriculum, and that is how I learn best. I was able to do research in addition to these projects as well, which gave me more of the experience I needed to succeed.
Fees
The total cost for a year at IIT, which included tuition, housing, and other fees, was about $55,000 per year. There were other fees, such as parking, and lab fees that we had to pay as well, which were about $1,000 a year.
Overview
Great school for my major, good pricing and close by.
Fees
Tuition, books, room and board, parking pass, food.
